Soren was asked for an interesting theme for a mod, not for an expansion. I think he mentioned the GDRs specifically as a topic for a mod because he knows they probably won't ever appear in an official expansion.
Also, it may have been a joke ... the whole chat was rather, um, light-hearted. All comments should be seen with this in mind imho.

Didn't stop me from bragging to a friend this morning that Soren named Bionic Commando his favorite NES game. This friend had never played it, it became a sort of running joke with me trying to convince her it's a great game, and being told the premise sounds stupid. I read the chat transcript this morning, and lo and behold, the lead designer of one of the pc G'sOTY likes it too! She was none too impressed.
