Ok now that DG01 is finished it's time for a new challenge! So here comes DG02 - A Fascist Variant Game. The variant game rules will be up for discussion as is the civ we're going to play. But here's some basic ideas:

Large Terra Map with 10 - 14 civs total (including us), difficulty Prince or Monarch, number of players: 6

Variant Rules (updated):
- Be number 1 in Soldiers Ranking, if not at least half of our cities must build military units until we are (in case of uneven number of cities, the better half must build units).

- Civics: We must adopt Police State, Nationhood, Slavery (allowed to upgrade to Emancipation when unhappiness about not having Emancipation hurt to much), State Property and Free Religion as soon as these come around.

- War and conquest is what we stand for. We might make a friend though and lock ourselves in a permanent alliance with one other Civ.

- The use of whipping is encouraged, especially in conquered cities.

- We’re not allowed to adopt a State Religion, nor spread a religion. But we are allowed to find a new religion if we happen to be the first to discover a tech that gives a religion.

- We are allowed to build only 1 settler of the duration of the game, the rest of our empire will have to be conquered.

Game Settings:
Monarch Difficulty
Large Terra Map with 12 AI players
Epic Game Speed
All Victory Conditions enabled except Space Ship and Diplomacy
No City Flipping after conquest
Allow Permanent Alliances

Civilization: The Greek
Leader: Alexander (Phi/Agg)

Roster:
Dimy
Till
ThERat
Gufnork
BeefontheBone
Eozenig

Alternate:
temmage

Fast work there, Dimy!
The first civ that comes to mind is Rome. As DG01 was heavy on late warfare, i wouldn't mind some early action this time around. With Praetorians we should rule the early battlefields. Alternatively, i would like to try out the Greeks sometime. Their Agressive trait would be useful, but i don't know about the UU.

If war is our religion, we might want to go for theocracy. Certainly we cannot tolerate the spread of any other, possibly peaceful, religions.! ;)

aggressive is needed and if we want an early UU, maybe Rome or Greek. Why don't we try the Greeks.
This will be an interesting role-play, but we must ensure we check those stats always.

just out of curiosity, how does the role playing part work??

Why not look at the previous game to see? There's a link in Dimy's sig.

Prince or Monarch is about my level, and my current SG seems to be going quite slowly - sign me up!

Ok I signed you guys up, the last reserved spot is for Gufnork, if he's not going to play the spot is yours Temmage. Oh I was thinking about Epic gamespeed by the way. As for the stats...yeah you need to check them, I suggest you check them at the beginning of your turnset. If we have an uneven number of cities, the better half will have to build military if we're not the most powerful that is.

by the way, are you talking about powerrating or military rating? I initially thought if we aren't #1 in military then we must build mil units. Would make more sense. Since at the initial phase of the game, power does not equal mil units but maybe expansion rate etc. And if we focus too much on military expansion will suffer and we will get even further behind.

Or am I wrong here?

The way i read it, we have to be first in military rating. It makes more sense from a roleplaying point of view. Unless i am mistaken, culture and population contribute vastly to the "power" rating. And those shouldn't be our priorities.
If we go for Greek, we might want to rename ourselfs to "Spata". ;)
In that case we could think about limiting ourselfs to a few cities to reflect the historical Spata better.
How about a rule saying we might only found one city (+ 4 colonies) and have to conquer the others?

There's a military power rating together with the ratings for population, land area, life expectancy etc and in the graph to the left of those you can see a graph of all the known civs for power, culture and score. I suggest we play a Sparta type game instead of Fascist (not much difference really). Slavery would be another must have civic for them though and Nationhood not a must. How about a rule that says we must build a barracks in every city ASAP? After all, every city must be able to produce quality troops.

I suggest the first player is very careful not to lose scouts to barbarians, that would set us back quite a bit since we must have more troops than others.

I'm game, if you haven't figured that out yet. I'll be heading back home to Gothenburg on Saturday, so I can play from then on. Let's hope this game doesn't screw with my graphic drivers.

Slavery will be a pain when everybody else has Emancipation. But as long as we keep our city city small (Sparta wasn't a very large city anyway) we should be fine.

Hey OCC start sounds great. I definitely like the Sparta idea but as Till said, its your game. :)

Since Gufnork will be playing, put me down as "official lurker." :D I hope you wont mind if i post the ocassional commentary/comment from time to time.

I think this game will be tough enough, are you guys sure we can win this with one built city with conquering the rest. Maybe on a pangaea map.

So, I hope we settle for military ranking as always #1, else military builds in 50% of the cities.

Yeah definitely #1 military ranking :) About the map..if we play Terra map it's like pangea, there'll be continents, but all the AI will start on the same continent as we do...the other continent is barb land. I haven't played this map often, so would like to explore this setting. With the rule limitations we put on ourselves I suggest playing on Prince rather than Monarch, but we can vote for this :). I'll define a more solid rule set this saturday and probably start the game on sunday the latest, so keep the ideas/suggestions going.

To Temmage: I'll sign you up as alternate for this game.

Oh about the OCC start... sounds interesting, but I'd like to add this rule to it:
- If we raze an enemy (or barb) city, we're allowed to build a settler and find a new city of ourselves

Sometimes the AI is placing city on bad spots (like 1 tile of the coast), this rule will allow us to find a new city on a better location.

Ah, you misunderstood me. What I meant is that we restrained ourselves to only building one city. We can acquire more cities, however, by conquest. :goodjob:

OCC on monarch for me at least would be suicidial. :nuke:

@Dimy: Thanks for adding me as alternate!
