We all have complaint about CIV4's diplomacy: how the AI demands you to cancel deal and so on, and if you decline they'll hate you. In many cases this negative effect on AI attitude is irriversable. It's frustrating.
So I come across the Great Diplomat idea. It could do one of the following things:
1. Improve a particular AI's attitude toward you by +5
2. Make peace between two AIs
3. Make one AI open up all the redlined options for 10 turns
4. Convince one AI to convert civics or religion.
I still don't know how to generate this leader - it doesn't sound right to come from a wonder, but I have no other better idea. One possibility is your "diplomatic activity". E.g., each trade you make accumulate certain points. But it's very hard to balance. Another possibility is to pop it up randomly when you make a trade like the civ3 way.
EDIT:
Similarly, how about a "Diplomatic" trait? All other AIs automatically have +2 attitude toward you, and more willing to trade with you.
