This GOTM is done. Send any submissions you have to dvdwd@yahoo.com. Results will come in a few days. Look for the GOTMII in a few minutes.

On my version of CivI (for DOS), there are no ".sav" files. (CivII uses ".sav" files.) My CivI uses files of the form:
* CIVIL0.SVE and CIVIL0.MAP
* CIVIL1.SVE and CIVIL1.MAP
* CIVIL2.SVE and CIVIL2.MAP
... ... ...
* CIVIL9.SVE and CIVIL9.MAP
There are two files for every save.

So how does your save work?

It is posted in the thread, CivI GOTM that we only use winciv as of right now. If I can find a way to convert CivI saves from windows into dos saves I will. I am still looking to see if I can find a utility. Maybe GOTM2 will use this if I can find one. Sorry:(

How about we have two GOTMs side by side each month? Maybe GOTMw and GOTMd? :) You could post a winciv version and I could post a similar dosciv version. They'll be different maps of course but I guess we can give them the same parameters.

For example, yours this month sounds like a normal random game at Prince level playing as the Russians. I could create a similar one for dos and post the files to this thread. Next month you could, for example, choose to customize a world to "large land mass", "warm temperature", "arid climate" and "age 3 billion years" and select King and Chinese, and I could do the same.

And so on. Of course keen players with both systems can do both!What do you think?

Sounds like a good idea Stormerne. If you posted the DOS version to the thread that I post the Win File to then they could go to the same place to download. For now, I will still have them send all of their games to me. With your permission, in the future, starting next month, I could send all of the DOS games to you to verify scores. I am still pondering whether or not to use a scoring formula. I have one made up similar to the Civ2 GOTM formula but I am not sure whether or not I will use it.

Note to everybody:

Send your save from 1AD and your save from the turn before you won to dvdwd@yahoo.com. If that won't work for some reason, send it to dwdych@yahoo.com. If you have any more questions, my aolim is complover02 and you can talk to me online. That is all.

EDIT: I wasn't sure if I was clear enough but, in summation, I would like you to post a DOS game starting THIS month following the same parameters.

This is the DOS version of the first Civ1 GOTM. It is not the same game as the WinCiv version at the start of this thread but it does have the same basic parameters. Please note that the starting year is 3980 BC - 1 turn in - as it is not possible to save the starting year in Civ1 without building a city or moving the settler. I have simply hit the space bar for no orders and saved.

Difficulty: Prince
Tribe: Russians
Leader: Stalin
Year: 3980 BC
Settlers: 1
Extra techs: Alphabet, The Wheel
Map: Random

Unzip the attachment into your Civ directory. It will overwrite your CIVIL0.SVE and CIVIL0.MAP files (so make sure you save those two first if you want to play them again some day!).

Go for it!

Ok, I am allowing submissions until the 15th of this month. I will try to post the results around the 17th and then Post a new GOTM at that time. In a few months, I hope to have it worked out so that we can be playing a GOTM every month instead of finishing in the middle of the month.

Only 5 downloads of the civwin and 1 download of civdos version.....disappointing!!! We should advertise more, I've already put it in my signature and gonzo too, it's not helping.:(

I have downloaded BOTH, so the one DOS download should be mine.:D
I think it´s a nice idea but I will only play this GOTM because I have some time this month. And probably only the WinCiv version. I have started that one and played already until 1000AD.:cool:
I don´t think that you will get much more than a maximum of 10 participants, not with 2 other GOTM around. I´ll play those, too!:p

Maybe Civ1 is really a bit outdated!:lol:
But please don´t hit me for that comment!!!:hammer:
I love this game!:love:

Yep, hopefully the downloads will pick up a bit. I am fine with only 5-7 players because that just makes my job easier. We can't forget that actually 2 people have the DOS game because stormerne doesn't need to download it. :) Happy Civing :D

If someone can write a news post for the Civ1 GOTM and send it to me, I can post it on the main page. :)

Gonzo, I think you should decide whether or not the Civ1 GOTM should be advertized on the main page. It could well be that more people will join and you have a bigger job to do.:eek:
If you don't have the time to write a little story and post a screenshot I am willing to do that and PM it to TF.

I will do that soon and give it to you in a few hours hopefully. Don't worry, the few hours are for posterity, I'll keep it short;)

If you don't have the time to write a little story and post a screenshot I am willing to do that and PM it to TF.

I am gonna e-mail TF and ask if he wants us to send a screenshot and a story for him to post at the start of each GOTM or if he just wants one story for the whole GOTM. I would, however, like it if every month you could download the game and post a screenshot to the thread containing that month's GOTM. E-mail me or PM me to let me know.

I really want to play this! Wow! Those graphics bring back memories. :)

Sadly, I attempted to install from my 4 original disks, only to find disk 3 seems corrupt now and the pc won't read it. :cry:

Maybe I'll buy it off the web. Crucial Software is selling it for £4.99.

Gotm for Civ 1?
Sounds pretty wool. Oki, I'll download it, but I'll get pretty bad results,
there isn't anything like war academy to Civ 1 :o

At the time that I am writing this, GOTM 1 has been downloaded a total of 29 times!! :eek: Wow! I never expected 15 downloads even, and now there are 29. Needless to say, I am elated, but I'm gonna need a bigger mailbox:D

Happy civing! :D

Gonna look for the Civ1 DISKETE(lol) in my closet along w\ all of my old DOS games...should prob. copy them on to a CD 4 conveinence.......:crazyeyes
