well, it's the first time (and i hope the last) i do this. I ask if anyone is bothered by the way chechnya is designed. If people feel offensed, just tell it so and i will see what i can do.

Shqype, don't be offensed. You did a great work and there is nothing personnal, but i prefer to ask if anybody is offensed by the way you designed chechnya (particulary your leaders choice, which is both good and bad as i explained in your thread)

If people could do this seriously, i would be thankfull.

poll is closed in 10 days. I won't vote myself.

I voted yes, it deserves to be in!

But please remove California - It was never seen as an indepent nation, even not by its people!

the question is not about whether it is a good "nation" or not, but if you feel offensed by the way it is implemented

Why not implement, it's a nicely done civ :) So i'd say yes ;)

Perhaps you can tell me about my leader choices? I know that Aslan Mashkadov wanted peace. He wanted a negotiated settlement for Chechnya, but unfortunately it was something that Vladimir Putin did not want, and he continued the war, which led Mashkadov to go and lead the rebellion.

He was killed by the Russians last year (which in itself I am strongly against, not because Mashkadov was a good man, but because he was the leader of a nation; isn't it international custom not to kill such people?)

He was opposed to the radical Islamist groups led by Shamil Basayev. Mashkadov denounced all terrorist attacks on Russia by these groups. In my opinion he was enlightened and that's why I gave him the philosophical trait.

The information that may be circulating about these leaders, keep in mind is most likely from the Russian point of view. But please remember that the President of Russia nationalized television, making the news stations are government-owned. So be advised that much of that information could be one-sided. (I've said this as nicely as possible, without trying to offend anyone).

I am really think Shqype is somewhat right, even what he said politically, I am sure that Russian state television is quite biased. I've red once the English version Moscow times; Didnt knew what I actually was reading!

Well LAnkou, in the end it's up to you, but I like this civ to be included in your next version of SuperCiv with my Basque civilization.

If you decided to include it, let me know, so I can release an updated version with some corrections and make .txt files to make the code easier for you to transfer.

Check my Chechnya thread, a new version is up with some slight changes, and now each XML folder has a .txt file with the changes to make it easier for you.

:)

Maybe you should include some earlier leaders for example Shamil(the 19th century one) it'll be a nice choice and the russian ones would not be offenced...

From wikipedia:
Imam Shamil (1797 - March 1871) was an Avar political and religious leader of the Muslim tribes of the Northern Caucasus. He was a leader of anti-Russian resistance in the Caucasian War and was the third Imam of Dagestan and Chechnya (1834-1859).

Imam Shamil was born in 1797 in the small village of Gimry which is in current-day Dagestan. His father was a free landlord, and this position allowed Shamil to study many subjects including Arabic and logic. Shamil also joined a Sufi order, and established himself as a well-respected and educated man among other Muslims of the Caucasus. He made a pilgramige or hajj to Mecca in 1828 and there he met Abdel Kadir, from whom he learned guerrilla war tactics.

Shamil was born at a time when the Russian Empire was expanding into the territories of the Ottoman Empire and Persia (see Russo-Persian War, 1804-13 and Russo-Turkish Wars). Supported by the Persian Shah, many Caucasian tribes rebelled against Russian rule in what became known as the Caucasian War. Some of the earlier leaders of Caucasian resistance were Sheikh Mansur, and Ghazi Mollah. Shamil was actually childhood friends with Mollah, and would become his disciple.

In 1834, Ghazi Mollah died at the battle of Ghimri, and Shamil took his place as the premier leader of the Caucasian resistance. Shamil was effective at uniting the many, frequently quarreling, Caucasian tribes to fight against the Russians. He made effective use of guerrilla warfare tactics and the resistance continued under his leadership until 1859. On August 25, 1859 Shamil and his family surrendered to Russian forces and were jailed in the Dagestan aoul of Gunib.

After his capture, Shamil was sent to Moscow to meet the Tsar, and then was exiled to Kaluga, a small town near Moscow. In 1869 he was given permission to retire to the holy city of Mecca, and he travelled there through Istanbul. He died in Medina in 1871 while visiting the city, and was buried the Jannatul Baqi which is also the site where many important personalities from Islamic history are buried. His two sons became officers in the Russian army.

Shamil continues to be revered in the Caucasus for his resistance to the Russians, and is held up as a role-model by those leading the current fight against Russian control of the region. The Chechen warlord Shamil Basayev is named after him.

He was not a Chechen but a broader Islamic leader of the Northern Caucasus... Tunch Khan recommended that I create the Dagestan civilization with him as a leader, but I won't do it yet ... perhaps later.

Besides, the two leaders I chose are good, valid leaders of the Chechen Republic.

Ok. I'm "the russian one". And I don't feel offenced. It is a user-made part of the game, and well done "civ".

As for leades, I would surely choose Shamil instead of Mashadov. Shamil is considered by chechens as their spiritual leader, and Mashadov never was quite popular figure, even among rebels.

Anyway, it's your mod, Shqype, and your choice.

I appreciate your input.

By Shamil, do you mean Shamil Basayev? I hope not, because he is responsible for the terrorist attacks (such as the one on the school in Beslan) and other things...

Maskhadov was a good man from what I know, and had support from Chechens that didn't support Basayev's extreme terrorist ways. I even signed a guestbook on a Chechen website in honor and respect of the fallen hero... and the Chechens there considered him a great man that wanted peace for their country.

Oh, no! NOT HIM! I know what he is responsible for not just by tv news...

Certainly, I meant Imam Shamil.

Alright, at least we are on the same page. But similarly, read my post above ... he was a broader Caucasus hero, not just a Chechen hero ... he is more fitting as a Dagestani leader from what I know.
