You wipe out another player/AI civilization. What do you get? Other than a pile of cash from each city you take that you probably needed to shore up your war effort, not a lot. How about an extra reward that the conquerer can choose from a list of options?

1) A load of free workers, based on the population of cities taken.
2) Culture in the form of a minor Great Artist. Take him/her off to a city and create a minor great work.
3) Science beakers. A bit like all those German rocket scientists who ended up in the USA at the end of WWII.
4) Military units based on the population of cities taken. These could either be generic units or, adding a bit of colour, unique units from the conquered civilization.

Comments?

I disagree. This would make warmongering even more of a no-brainer than it already is.

In another civ type game, you had the possibility of learning a tech that you didn't know but the civ you conquered did. (Actually, this worked for each city you captured).

The reward of conquest is the cities and land you capture. I see no need to overpower it any further. You tend to get loads of workers anyway, I see no logic in getting a great artist for it and giving extra military to a civ who has just won a war falls to the problem of the rich getting richer.

There's some logic to getting tech from conquest, but the Civ 2 method of getting a tech from each city you captured was overpowered. Maybe you should get a VERY small quantity of beakers when you capture an enemy city towards each tech they know, but you don't. Alternatively, maybe you could get one of their techs when you actually destroy the civ completely.

Wasn't that in an earlier version of Civ?
But anyway yes i agree that accuiring tech from a capture would be more incentive.
Ofcourse not 100% posibility but a random perc., and in the event that you are lucky to have that posibility you should get a list of techs availabale to steal (only one per capture).

I know, Annihilating another civ is a BIG deal, like 'comon there should be some reward or repremand, something.

Destroying a civ should come with a cultural reward, eg; like maybe there art collection or jewels, and there should be a penalty as well.

I hadn't thought about a penalty but that's a good idea. Who is going to want to trade with a genocidal maniac? Definite across the board penalty and an increased likelyhood of other nations ganging up against you in future wars.

Perhaps diplomatic penalties and some sort of culture and money boost. In Civ3 if you ever got any money from cities at all, you grabbed the biggest amount from the last city. Perhaps this could be changed so that wiping out a civ gives you extra money on top of the city amount.
A great artist, or perhaps a great work which you choose to place in a city at the time of conquest would be good.

Well the other civs should only be upset if you eliminate their friend, who will care if you kill a nobody civ?
Maybe the penalty should kick in after nationhood tech etc.

There is a reward for conquest. pre-improved land, cities, thier resources, aptured workerss, cash and a merry step on the road to victory.

You recieve pre-improved land, their resources etc just from taking cities. I'm talking about a one off extra bonus and penalty for totally removing a civ from the game.

The best reward for removing them is that you don't have to scroll as far (or at all sometimes) on the relations windows.

That is reward enough for me.
