Secretary of War: Whomp
Deputy SoW and cartographer: Robboo

To the great people of Boaring Wallow,

My background
For those of you who are not familiar with me let me give a bit of my background. Most of my experience comes from active participation in the sucession game forum and through PBEM games. Though, this is the first AI demogame I am involved in the ISDG at another site and the CFC MTDG on team K.I.S.S.

Objectives over this term
My objective as Secretary of War is to improve our military capabilities, give an open and visual look at the developments of our military. . As I become more acclimated to the current state of affairs I hope to address many of your thoughts.

Current state of our military
Minimal. As it stand right now we have three warriors and a scout.
Our units are combing much of the unexplored world and have met some neighbors. Some gracious and others to be concerned with. Our current capabilities, at this point, require us to keep a low profile with these countries until we have better technology.

Our future
Much will depend on the will of the people.
We have one militaristic knowledge, the wheel. Unfortunately, we don’t have the capability to use this knowledge since access to horses is not within our current borders.
There is a discussion on a second city that would gain access to these much needed horses here. Please vote in this thread.
Planning for a 2nd city site
This city would give us two critical items.
  • Much needed horses and
  • A strategic choke point. This spot will cut off access through our lands.

Another current discussion is our research path. There is a discussion in this thread regarding that topic.
Research Path
Bronze working is a major need for the protection of our people.
This technology will potentially give our city planners the capability to
  • find the much needed resource, copper.
    and
  • Our military a significant upgrade for military force, the axemen.
Please discuss your thoughts with our esteemed Minister of Science Strider in this thread.

Finally, let me say thank you for supporting me as secretary. I will do my best to develop a military you can be proud of. You have humbled me by your support as Minister of War. I act as your servant and will be open for any discussion on any and all military topics.
Let's open the forum for discussions and anyone interested in the War Room cartographer please PM me.

Please designate which unit will be used for settler escort duty when the time comes, and arrange for that unit to meet our settler at our southern cultural border on the path towards our next settlement site. This shouldn't be needed until the next play session after today's but it wouldn't do for the unit to move away and then not have time to move back. :)

There is a warrior just outside of the borders of BW awaiting the settler. Most of the land has been scouted. We lost a scout during battle with a nasty lion. That same scout had killed the avenging lion's brother at the beginning of the turnset.

Also it might be of note that Berlin was defended by an Axeman.

We seem to be weak compared to the Germans. While the chance of hostilities is remote with so much land between us, if we need to make any defensive plans it's never too early to start.

axemen can tear through almost anything right now. So yes they are a threat but a remote one IMO. They have the most room to expand so I doubt that they will have any time to come looking for a fight. Also Frederick isn't too hostile usually.

OTOH, Ghengis is being boxed in. He's likely building a settler if he already hasn't. After the copper is online, I'd suggest a couple of axemen go pay the Khans a visit. Maybe bring some cookies?

Agreed with Tubby. I'm not so concerned about the Germans but the Mongols could be an issue. My focus will be on Axemen. They are mighty powerful early units. In fact, they have to capability for upgrades simply through barb attacks so 1 or 2 before rax would not hurt. They are nearly 100% winners when attacking a warrior on almost any terrain.

Do we have a good map? I'd like to see if I could get a cartographer for the Dept. of Defense.

whomp...what are you looking for from your cartographer?

/I might be able to help.

After some discussion with Major General Idiot Whomp. I have developed some strategic overlay maps for preplanning our future wars and defenses. I have also worked on a cartographical "military" resource analysis of our 3 known rivals. Maps will be posted after this analysis.

Khan
We are not aware of any resources within his cultural borders at this time(1450 BC). We believe his city( Karakorum) is a coastal city so we must be aware of possible coastal invasion. We also believe that during the next few turns the cultural borders will expand. The nearest visible horse resources that Khan needs for his UU have been claimed by us. However there is another horse resource located 2 E and 7 S of his city. It will be a race between Khan and Peter for this resource. I feel Khan will get to it first primarily due to terrain.

Peter
We cannot see much of Peters territory, and no resources can be seen within his borders. There is a horse resource 8 N and 2 E that he will be racing with Khan for control of them. I feel Peter will lose this horse resource due to the number of hills and forrests in the path to the horse resource. No other infomation can be gathered due to the large amount of unexplored land Southeast of Peters territory.

Bismark
Bismark has copper with in his cultural borders and a mine on it. We should assume that he is using the copper to make military units. In additon there is a horse resource loacated 11E and 6N of Berlin with NO COMPETITION for this resource. There are also 2 stone and a marble resource close enough to Berlin to be easily control by Bismark. Berlin is also built on a hill to add to its defenses.

In the maps below the pink dots are "military" resources, the blue dots are our brave troops and the pink dots are the hills. I did not mark the forrests as the entire central part of the map would be green. The future cultural borders of the cities are also drawn since they will expand dring the next few turns. Based on cartography, Khan will be competing with Peter and us for land. Bismark will have a larger area to expand without competition and is the greater risk. I have included stone and marble as a military resource due to their effects on building speeds.

for image shack use the forums 1 code. I've always just copied & pasted and it worked.

When I was DP during my turns, I noted that when I found Berlin that it was defended with an axeman. No telling how many he has.

Thanks for the update Tubby. I did not look back at the turns to check on that but that furthers our military planning.

Thanks for the picture loading knowledge. I did it like another forum...hence the problem.

Absolutely magnificient Deputy Robboo.

This map gives great clarity to our current sitrep. My assumptions are the Mongols will start a second city towards the southern pink dot. Our line of attack would be along the red dots.

Ultimately, as you state the Germans seem to be the biggest threat and have the considerable real estate to their south and northeast.

I will make the other cabinet ministers aware of your fine piece of work and open this up for discussion Deputy Robboo.

Thank you sir. You just tell me what sort of attack plan you want and when and I will start preparing our strategic attack maps.

I also request that you ask our DPs to explore the black located NE ofBerlin, SW of Berlin and SE of Peters territory. If horses are closer to Berlin that what is evident we might be in for trouble sooner than later.

/thanks for the job :D

Unless we or Germany gets writing pretty quick it looks like the SE scouting warrior will have to go through the SW fog to get back home. The NE portion should be explored by the warrior N of Berlin sunbathing currently

robboo, amzing, simply amazing. :goodjob:

I concure that Germany is the largest threat to us. It would seem there position allows them to maximize growth, culture, and military out put. I think we should kill the mongols, ally with peter, and not help but not hurt the germans until the time is right. In the future we may share a border with them, adn our cities along that border may be newer/weaker. Until the time is right we should watch Germany with a wary eye, but it is not good to smack a sleeping elephant with a fishing poll:scan:

Thank you Swiss.

I agree I think we need to go on a war footing and start making our Khan killing axmen as soon as possible. This is suprising since I dont normally warmonger in any of my games. The German position is obviously a position of superiority. We will be dealing with them soon or later so we need to make it at a time of our chosing.
