Thanks, now you can see why I was impatient. But now I think I'm pretty sure I've topped out. From here on it's all down hill. Never thought I'd make it all the way to lucky 13. :goodjob:

Well, it was a whole month between updates. And, actually, my wife has kind of given up on the whole stop playing so much thing. Oh, and I used another tip from your sid thread about the AI sending units uselessly after "easy targets." I've been using slave workers as bait, drawing off the enemy longbowmen.

zerksees, how can you get a number one on sid and not go up on the quatermaster table?

BTW, sorry I didn't say this sooner but, Congratulations on beating sid

Thanks guys. I felt like I was in a little over my head but I am sure I can get better at Sid next time I try it.

There were a couple reasons I can see why I did not move up.

The first was my small emperor diplo game went from #2 to #6 in one update. Also someone submitted a bunch of games to really improve their position. :mischief:

I was disappointed at the outcome but no matter. If I had not put that game in I would have gone backwards.

There are some other weak links in my chain and I could be out of the top 20 soon. My only deity submission is going to take a big hit next month due to the gauntlet for February.

Whoops  Sorry, I hope you didn't think I was taunting, judging by your post you didn't but I didn't mean to at all. I think I will be sliding a bit as I think I've exploited the weakest links of the HoF as much as I can. Although I am just a little bit happy with my Monarch 100k win I'm sure someone can come along and boot me down the ladder.

I figure you were not aware of what happened - no apology needed.

What you did just shows how weak my 15th place spot really is. A good portion of my scores are in the weak areas as well and I think I will need to elevate my game to stay in the top 20. It might take a couple months for my huge map milking effort but it should give me a boost.

Wow, I just realized what you mean about the diplomatic victory, that was the G3, and now the current G3 is going to hurt you again. Sorry. Fact is I don't think I would have been able to beat either of those.

Actually, one of the things I like about the whole quartemasters challange is participation does count. A person could submit only 7 games and qualify, but it seems like you need to do a lot more to really have a good rank. Unless of course your Moonsinger, and who else is? ;) I know i'm not:crazyeye:

BTW, about the stuff before, it really could have be read into it like, "ha ha I pulled ahead of you" or somthing, which we both know wasn't the case at all. We've always been civil and I always try to take everyone's feelings into account when I post, except for the terrible jokes I throw in.:mischief:
I really like this forum, the HoF forum in particular, and I think we have a lot of good people here. I just wanted to say that. You can tell me to shut-up now if you like, thanks.

Actually eight or ten really good games is all it takes IMO. I suppose seven stellar #1 in several categories games could do it but that would require a level of mastery that I am not interested in achieving.

I think I have a reasonably good mastery of the game but it takes me too long to play a game to be able to play enough games to challenge for a top 5 spot. And I am not going to sacrifice the fun factor to move up the HOF.

Eventually these gauntlets will fill all the gaps in the standard and smaller maps. Large and huge will have a chance because it takes a lot longer to play, and not everyone has the patience for that.

If I ever become independently wealthy though ....

A good Histo score is very useful for raising your rank in the QM; my scores show this pretty well.
:D
I think mine illustrates that as well but in a different way. My OCC histo score doesn't help me get a top spot. I just get bored with milking.

Ditto on that. My histo is piss poor, and I just have 200 turns left in my huge deity histo that should net about 66-70K, but the boredom involved in the last turns is excruciating.

My first histo game was also kinda statement (still #1 on tiny sid ;)), though at that point I only needed it to gualify as QM. Then last fall I started my huge DG histo project, which took me 3 months of pretty heavy playing -- could't spend that much on civ any more. Even though I feel I could improve - think I will rather concider going to C-IV instead.

Anyway, once You have started You should not turn back--the feeling playing one of the finest games kept me going!

Although I've lately felt somewhat bored on C-III (maybe I 'm past my skill and unable to compete), the HOFfing has been a great experience and I've learned a lot -- thx on that for everyone on HOF staff and all the collegues ! :crazyeye::crazyeye::crazyeye:
