It seems to be a while since the last similar poll to this, so in the interests of settling the debate on the proportion of people having problems with Civ 4 I'll start a new one. Are you having any problems with Civ 4 and if so, how bad?

It would be nice if a lot of people will vote on this so it gets to a reasonable sample size. :)

Mine plays great until i get a map of the whole world and/or i enter the industrial age. I voted for unplayable as i can't finish a game since the 1.52 patch. Before i patched the game, it ran no problems (but had AI and resource issues, which is why i patched).

Plays great apart from some very minor graphical glitches like 'walking on water'.

Most of teh time it's absolutely fine. No crashes and excellent performance.

Occasionally, though, I still get ATI driver issues and black screens followed by a total lock-up.

Cheers for doing this poll. Let's see what the percentages are.

Uhhh, why. There have been dozens of these polls. Just go post in one of those.

Reasonably well, with minor problems : lag in the last turns, movies frame by frame (I turned them off), some graphical glitches. Could (will) be better, but I haven't got major problems as CTD or stuff.

My graphics card goes haywire once in while and i get these weird lines going all over the place, and icant actually see what happening on the map. Happen very rarely though, like once a month. usually i can save, quit reboot and then open the game up again and it will be fine for another month.

the game plays but with a bad frame rate and occasionally (not extremely often) the game crashes and a BSOD comes up... maybe it's cause i have a geforce fx 5200, but it can't be that bad a card...

performance is fine

but: about 3 times a game i get a major crash, fatal application error and a mssage about a broken agp card.

It really messes up the pc, have to reboot in safe then reboot again.

This just me?.

Late game, 10-20 turns in a session, it will crash. I can't run huge maps at all though.

As soon as budget allows, I'll be upgrading my ram to see if it helps. I need a bigger, better hard drive, too.

Oh, yes it can. That card was a piece of junk two years ago.

It may be junk, but a laptop with an FX 5200 can run Civ 4 with little or no problems. It's the same card as I've got in my laptop and Civ 4 works fine for me apart from the odd graphical glitch like the leaders teeth looking weird for a fraction of a second on entering diplomacy. I haven't had the game crash in ages (since 1.52 came out). If you're getting crashes and BSOD's I think the cause is something else.

Curious, I have the same symptoms, but I classify it as "It is playable, but has major issues". I guess "reasonably well" is in the eye of beholder :)

I chose "Reasonably well, with minor problems" due to the occasionally graphics glitch and units walking on water. If I do the Select ALL command on a unit stack, sometimes that stack will start a long march across the landscape to a destination unknown. The unit select icon (the round circle icon that signifies that a unit is selected) stays where the units were however the graphical representation of the units start the march. These are problems I can live with.

The game still does slow down in the modern era (and latter stages, especially when the world map is revealed) however I've heard that Firaxis may improve this further in a new patch. We'll see but these problems are hardly show-stoppers.

Mid to late games, all the unit and resource graphics just turn black... playable but annoying, i think its just my graphics card no longer bein able to handle it
