Religion Path:

Monotheism and/or Priesthood

Military Path:
Iron Working

Scientific Path:

Alphabet and/or Mathematics

Lets go for a later religion by using science first. Unless you are in a big empty area its difficult to go the other way if you lose the early religions. We might be in an fairly early border war with the mongolians so science can give us the edge.
 
Religion is very important in this game. We need to develop a religion early and then spread it to foreign lands. The more nations that share our faith, the more allies we will have, and thusly, the more powerful we will become.
 
Religion is a waste of time in Civ4 (not in RL though). Most of the things can be done without religions. Religions not only bring friends and allies, they also bring enemies and religiouis wars with them.

Science is very improtant at this stage though as well as military techs. There are not too many jungle however, so may be Iron Working is not extremely important. Going to Writing now should be more useful.
 
Meditation-Priesthood-Writing. We will be able, with wise city placement, to guard ourselves using copper weapons for the next fifteen hundred years. We may even be able to chop-rush the Oracle and score Confucianism.
 
FWIW, here is the current situation of our technologies. Archery wasn't available after Myst was complete since we didn't have Hunting yet. So the DP finished Hunting.

 
In order to have any culture at all, we need to research it first. And the earlier the better (I can barely believe C4 makes me think like that, regarding my C3C general mindset ...) so we better start soon.

The only alternative I'd agree on is to take the tree systematically top to bottom, right to left.
 
Monotheism doesn't just provide a possible religion, it also allows us to use Organised Religion. That extra build speed would come in very handy. Alternatively, we can head for Alphabet and hope that we can get some decent trading done. Heck, I'm going to be cautious and vote for a religous path. :eek:
 
We should consider building up our military base. Ironworking can give us more powerfull units to use in the ancient world.
 
Axemen and spears are pretty much all you need in the AA. Swordsmen are nice but not necessary. We need to get some science. After we get to Alpha we can get IW for Alpha from anyone.
 
I vote the scientific path since we will have copper. Axemen and spears were the most important military needs.

Organized religion is a very handy civic but I think it can be had with trading capabilities. I would go the scientific path.
