I can't exactly figure out why there aren't promotions for planes, to say that a fighter with a bunch of kills is not more effective than a rook fresh out of boot is rediculous. Simply put, I think there should be a "top gun school" national wonder that grants air units trained in that city +4 experience, and techs should grant promotions. Like computers would give a bonus, and composites, and so on. And maybe the airport could give a +2, so it would basically be the same as land troops.

If you know how to do this I would appreciate some information.
 
That sounds like a great idea. It would be cool if somebody could do that.
 
It sounds like a good idea to me. In my opinion, too much emphasis has been placed on ground units in the last two games at the expense of air and sea units.
 
The poll results say it all. I've read other threads like this as well and nobody can give a good reason why air units haven't been given a promotion ladder. Maybe its being held back for the explansion.
 
But now you cannot kill an unit with aircraft... so you can't gain any experience... only after building the plane.
 
True, but then it could be based on the number of successful missions (i.e. how many times that plane went into combat, did some damage/intercepted the attack, and returned to base safely).
 
It would be interesting to give it particular titles too ...

"Fighter Ace - Intercept/Air-to-Air Combat + 20%"

"Pickle-Barrel Bomber - City Attack + 10%" (ok, that is corny)
 
In my opinion there would be so much stuff to add to air warfare:
bombers can get 1 experience for every bombing without interception
some of the promotions for bombers could be:
-carpet bombing (-1 population for succcessful bombing)
-precision attack (available only for b-2)
-veteran bomber (attacks more deadly)
-collateral damage increased (more units damaged)

Bombers could be really powerful so it's needed to balance them like making them more vulnerable against fighters and SAM infantry.i would also add a SAM site

About fighter promotions:
fighter/bomber (increased bombing attack)
fighter ace (more strength agaist enemy fighters)
interceptor (more chance to intercept units)
Fighter should get their promotions with 1 xp for every bomber or fighter destroyed


Radar and SAM sites should also make their comparison to balance a bit more air warfare whic in CIV4 is extremely powerful and AI doesn't know how to use them
 
got an old gent in my neiborhood that would love to argue that.He was part of the air support in normandy that kept the german dive bombers from raining hell on our boys while they were storming the beaches.
If the gunships get it so should the rest of the air power.
 
I'd love to see some special air promotions! (and naval too, while we're at it :) )
