Secretary of State- German Power Threat

Recently it has been discovered the barabaric Germans are much more powerful than us, with powerful soldiers with an array of weapons. Meanwhile, our people are still stuck with ancient warriors. So, the question that faces us is should we relax our demand handling when it comes to the Germans in the near future. The Germans could easily make a mess of our fair civ if they declare war on us, so should we give into to some of their demands in the near future, at least until we catch up in power? I realize we are a proud people, but security should come before pride. Please discuss what we should do concerning future German demands.

depends on the demand really, open borders we should accept and if we have any a small amount of gold.

Our military is not properly prepared at this point. Until we get some axemen and spears I would recommend caving into any demands. However, if there are demands it will be remembered.

That's what I was thinking Secretary Whomp. Give in to demands from Germany for now, and then remember their impudence when we have a strong military and have rosen up the power chart.

I doubt they will be any demands/offers(other than open borders) this early. Especially since tehy are not boxed in by us yet.

But if they demand all our gold or a tech that may give them even more of a lead in power I say no. They are too far from our civ to pose any threat during the turn that they woudl demand anyway.

Someone correct me..Thay can not demand tech until they get alphabet and gold until another tech is discovered( I forget which). Since alphabet is a wasy off sfor us it is probablysimilar to them...I say dont worry about this right now but keep looking at the graph during the next turn and see if building axman gives us a jump.

Thanks for getting this started, it was just what we needed.

The important thing to do right now is to keep ourselves up to date on all our neighbor's capabilities and their attitudes towards us, and forward that to the diplomatic corps. Our diplomats won't get the chance to write home and wait for the latest intelligence.

robboo, you are correct in that they cannot demand techs or anything that they cannot trade with us.

So that would eliminate techs (alpha needed) & money (currency needed). Open borders needs writing. Which it looks like we might be researching soon. I've never seen a demand for a city. Switching civics would be the only thing that I could imagine would come from Freddy but we are already planning on switching to Slavery so that might be a non-issue too.

Right and I have never seen them DEMAND open borders since its a 2 way street. We could really use the open borders with tehm right now to scout thier location. They are to far away to plant a settler in "our" territory and if they did we could eat it mighty quickly.

I'm just curious....musing really....is there any diplomatic benefit to holding off on adopting slavery untill it's demanded of us. There is support on adopting it, but the poll didn't specify adopting it "immediately," did it?

If it gives us no immediate economic benefit, and we don't seem to be in immediate harm's way from our neighbors, maybe it's worth waiting for the demand and the resulting "+1" in attitude??
