As promised, I have started on my Emperor game. This level should be more of a jump in difficulty compared to the Monarch game. Since the image limit is now 12, it will allow for more flexibility for my story.

Here are the first two games, you can look at them to figure out my play style.

I have decided to play on an archipelago on a standard size map. That way, I doubt I will win before the AI gets into the Industrial Age.

This time I have put Cultural Conversions on, since I now know what it is. But other than that and the difficulty level, everything else is the same.

This starting position doesn't look too bad, it is a flood plain with a wheat food bonus.

e10021xg.jpg

After I built my first city, I have realized that I will soon have a luxury in my borders, which is a big help in the early game.

e10036ql.jpg

Building a good road network in this game is very important.

e10046zo.jpg

First settler comes out at 3200 B.C., I expect that is how fast the AI is going with its expansion.

e10050en.jpg

I get this list, I see that the Mayans have come back to cause trouble. The Germans and the Portuguese have come back from the last game. I haven't played a game with the Hittites and the Americans.

e10068op.jpg

Over the next nine turns, I built two new cities, found a volcano, and found more useless land to the east.

e10071ek.jpg

That doesn't mean much, but I did find horses south of my capital.

e10082rq.jpg

By 1950 B.C. I have five cities, and I am doing very well. I still have not found anyone yet, so I think I may be on an island.

e10092ee.jpg

But if I am on an island, there is hope, more land has been found.

e10107kx.jpg

Well, I guess I am on an island, but I am getting Alphabet in one turn. With Curraghs, hopefully I can find someone else.

Here is the first game save, I guess you could see how you could do on this start.

Next time - Will I find anyone else, or will I be alone for a good part of the game?

:woohoo: It's back and first to reply! Good luck Haha that's not the freatest starting position. But you can win it. :goodjob:

Not a bad start (Kyoto would make a good settler farm). Having so much desert on your island isn't particularly helpful, but at least there's fish nearby to offset that.

FYI, you can find out which civs you will be playing against on the first turn, by opening up the Space Race screen (F10) and clicking on the button to view the space race.

I'll be watching this one, good luck!

You can see in his 6th pic that it shows the rival civs.;)

Wow everyone is pouring in replies. :D Stocktrcacker should try an AW game.

I would have done that, but one of those histories of the world came up and it was easier. I'm surprised 4 people posted on this thread in 30 minutes, thanks!

That's why we're here.

A alrite start there stocktracker, I have a feeling you will have no trouble with Emperor.

I get Alphabet, which will allow me to see if anyone else is by me. I am heading straight for Map Making, so I can colonize different islands.

e10128ij.jpg

A few turns later, Kagoshima is built and a Curragh will be produced in one turn.

e10138jr.jpg

The Curragh heads north, and it finds a brown border. I am assuming it is Russia.

e10144os.jpg

I have Alphabet over them, which means I am ahead of them in getting to other islands.

e10150of.jpg

To the east of me, another Curragh finds China. I never like playing with China or the Mayans, they always cause problems for me.

e10163rs.jpg

I have gold that I need to spend, so I buy two techs from China. They have Alphabet, but I am getting Writing in four turns.

e10178si.jpg

Of those two nations and myself, I am currently the leader.

e10181nq.jpg

As I explore, I find a good island with no other civs on it. I think I can put about four cities on it.

e10198ho.jpg

China is still expanding rapidly, hopefully they don't have more land than I do.

e10205yh.jpg

Currently I know of a civilization to the east and north of me, but I still haven't explored towards the west.

e10214hu.jpg

Next time - Will I be able up with the AI in terms of expansion?

IMHO the start is pretty bad, but probably I am too used with too good starts.
Spoiled. :p Congrats on the 1200 posts btw.:)

Nice update, stocktracker. Do you plan to go to war once you get map making?

Do you plan to settle the really tiny islands (4 tiles or less), or will you let the AI build cities there, and get them from peace treaties when you beat them up?

I want to get as much land as possible in the early game, so I want to settle everything.

Nice update, stocktracker. Do you plan to go to war once you get map making?

I need to colonize more land first, and then I can start the wars.

Thank you, c_d. (may I call you c_d? conquer_dude is too long).

I think Russia is more powerful than China (not only from the Histograph, but also because of the lands they have). Good luck with beating them!

Yeah you can call me cd. :D

I think Russia will be harder to take out because they do look like they have more land. But of course none of these will be hard for stocktracker to take out. :)

The first wonder of the game is built, and guess who builds it? After playing these games, I see why people like to play as the Mayans.

e10225qa.jpg

I find a blue border while trying to explore in the west. It is either Germany, or the Mayans. Both are civs I really don't care to deal with.

e10238no.jpg

With my next-to-nothing military guarding in cities, and my one luxury, it seems better than what the AI has. Of course, the AI at this point doesn't have to worry about unhappiness that much.

e10241li.jpg

It was the Mayans that I found, I am soon to be three techs ahead of them in the race to settle on other islands.

e10251bi.jpg

The Mayans have a higher score than the Russians and the Chinese, but they are weaker than they are.

e10261ox.jpg

From what I am seeing, the Mayans don't have very good land, which is a relief.

e10275uy.jpg

Over the next ten turns, five settlers will be completed. Galleys have been built to secure more land.

e10280li.jpg

There is some nice land towards the north, but Russia is in the way.

e10294yi.jpg

The Russians get the Pyramids in four turns, but it is not a big wonder on an island.

e10305od.jpg

The Right of Passage is signed, and that land to the north is as good as mine.

e10318nl.jpg

Next time - I find another civilization, and it is the strongest one yet. Who is it?
