I believe its some sort of ww2 era machine gun or submachine gun, I'm not familiar with guns.

I think the weapon is a "shpagin". I'm not sure what such weapons are called in English, but it's an automatic weapon similar to a tommygun.

Yes it is a PPSH submachine gun, also called the Burp gun for the sound it made. It came in with a banana clip or a 71 bullet round magazine. I gave SWoG all the models as well as the proper colors.
Recon: this was the standard russian trooper, hardly an elite para. Stalin wanted walls of lead to be thrown at the germans. This guy replaced the standard Nagant bolt action rifle. The Burp Gun was horrid for accurate fire, but perfect for close range fighting like in Stalingrad.

I actually resized the model to be similiar to the Civ3 units, hense the large feet..
