Do villages continue to give techs even in later in the game?
When do huts all dissapear? i have seen huts when I explored the new World with ships but have not been able to actually get to them.

When do huts dissapear?
Do they turn into barbarian cities? I have noticed some huts being "garrisoned" by barbs before.
At some point do they stop giving techs and just give maps or gold?
Can you get a second tier tech from a hut or is it just the very earilest techs?

The highest tech I ever got from a hut was Construction. That was early in the game, though.

Terra maps always have tons of huts in the New World. The problem, however, is that they're almost always guarded, so your scouts can't pop 'em. I've never gotten a tech from a late-game hut, but then I've never tried either.

A guarded hut will eventually grow into a barbarian city.

The best thing I ever got from a hut was Philosophy - not as good as Astronomy, I'll admit, but it did tickle me to imagine these barbarians alternating sitting around pondering the meaning of existence with going off the next day to hit people with clubs. :D

Were you the first to discover Taoism from that hut?

I played around with the WB a while ago, added extra huts and a couple of explorers. I nabbed a couple of the eary religions from them.

27 techs are marked with bGoodyTech=1 in CIV4TechInfos.xml.

Here is the list:

So, I really doubt someone could found a reiligion from a goody hut. ;)

How odd, I distinctly remember getting Philosophy out of one, maybe I'm going insane. :crazyeye:

How do you know that?
Because I've seen it happen. ;)

Try it yourself...next time you see a guarded hut, leave it in the fog for a few turns. Eventually, a barb city will appear.

maybe not, but it could suddenly put you in place to found one.

If you get Music first from a goodie hut, do you get the Great Artist that goes with it?

I'd presume so (a tech's a tech so the rules should apply as usual) but he'll probably appear in a city as opposed to where the hut was.

Congrats Lord Olleus, you seem to have gotten the best possible tech from a hut! :xmassign:

You can't get a tech unless you have all the prereqs for it first.

 what a fine comment!

About barb cities forming on huts with warriors

Barb cities form in the fog too. I do not think that they only form from villages with barb guards. In fact, I have seen developed barb cities with a barb hut and a guard in their cultural control, so I'm inclined to say this is a rumor.

I will run a test soon. So many barb questions, so little barb time!

Yes, you do. I had that happen in one of my very first games. The Great Artist appeared in my capital, far from the goody hut. That game was on Settler difficulty, Terra map. Now that I usually play on Prince/Continents I get very few goody huts. The AI starts with scouts while I have a slow-poke warrior to explore with, and by the time I could potentially discover music there are only a few huts left on distant, isolated tiny landmasses. I've never gotten a tech from any of those I could reach. I haven't seen it happen yet on Prince, but I believe it should work the same regardless of difficulty level.

Well, I got Astronomy from a hut in my last game. Monarch dificulty.
hut was on small island.

got astranomy as well. grrrrr. I could reach the other continent over culture borders, others couldnt. had colossus, didnt any after. that was a negative effect.

In regards to when/where/how barbarian cities appear (and barbarians for that matter), it is possible to play a team game with the barbarians on your team. When you play in a team you have shared line of sight (can see all units and inside cities), and can direct the other players research or city attack targets. I'm not sure if you can direct the barbarians though it would be interesting to find out!

Anyone with spare time want to try it these are the only instructions I have from an SG thread, please post results here.

Another interesting setup is putting yourself in a team with raging barbs.. (it is possible.. you have to make a worldbuilder save, and then edit it in a text editor to set the player to play in team 18)

(I can set up a map for you if you want)
