this tech would come late in the game and would be a tech which would allow you to build ---Hockey arena
---Soccer stadium
---baseball dome
---(American) Football Stadium
---Basketball Court
(these all look the same from above which is why I don't include other popular pro sports). (1 building per city where all sports are played!!!) (unless someone wants to get ambitious and make all the above)

These buildings would lower a little corruption as organized sport keeps kids off the street and out of crime.
They would also bring in revenue because of the potention to develop into professional sports which which in turn could boost tourism. (due to television)

Culture +2/turn
Happy +1
gold +10%
maintence -5%
cost 920 Hammers

cool idea.... but the lower crime.......im guesisng you aren't english.
Cool idea, though.

Nope sorry dude I am Canadian and we have the problem of kids getting bored so they decide to cause trouble to keep themselves occupied... Although they find that if they are involved in organized sport that they are less likely to do drugs and also to commit crimes.

lol soccer rivalries are the #1 cause of muggings and beatings in england and some parts of europe. its even bad in latin america, but a lack of large leauges helps to ease it there
in america, sports bars are a cause of drunk driving, which kills even more people

anyway, team sports should be a wonder or project that increases culture and happiness
on the whole they dont really affect crime at all (globally and for all age groups as a whole)

You must be thinking totally one hundred percent that a sports plex is only for professional sports. Think outside that.... when a teenager is involved in sport they are less likely to commit crime. although it is only petty crime, It should still reduce crime in general.

Why do think organized sports are a recent invention? Nearly every civiliation worth mentioning had something (be it gladiator fights, wrestling, or ball games).

Of course, organised sports have been around for a while, but a recent invention in the world that really should be in the game is the Olympics. Perhaps a wonder that would operate much like the United Nations; in that it would occur ever 4 years (by the time it is build 1 turn = 1 year) and all nations can choose to compete. don't know how the dynamics would work, but you would probably have to invest money into it or something. Person who wins the most gets great people, or something in exchange. Or perhaps you get to host the games, and you get a golden age from all the tourism...

Interesting idea, although I'd perhaps diversify the sports a little (4/5 of those are nearly solely played in America)

Perhaps adding rugby into the mix and Athletics too (track and field)?

you say Soccer and it has huge mention as being the top sport in every country except in north america.

My list would probably be:

Football (soccer)
Athletics
Basketball
Rugby
Hockey
Boxing maybe

There's a Colosseum in the game, I guess the lions just have been swapped with police dogs in 2006 and the killing of people of other club/religion takes place around the arena instead of inside them ;)

There is already enough happyness improvements in the game though, if there is as many as you want then there would be no need for luxeries in the game or for you to compete for.

I like the Idea too My suggestion is here

Yes! and there should be a National Sport instead of state religion.

Imagine the Football vs. Futbol wars! :mischief:

That one is good. A recent invention :). You must be very longlived... ;)

The Ancient Olympic Games were an athletic and religious celebration held in the Greek town of Olympia from (historically) as early as 776 BC to 393 AD. There were 292 Ancient Olympic Games.

I beleive he's talking about the modern Olympics; and while yes, one could argue that the ancient Olympics were something of a peace event, it was a peace event primarily to appease the gods: Olympus says "play games in the buff for us, or else we won't give you what you want", sort of thing. The modern Olympics are, from the very beginning, intended to be a method of attaining world peace through sports.
