** ALL SLOTS TAKEN! **

Note 3/23/2006-1: I wasn't planning to have any AIs in the game but if any of you want, we can although with 8 human civs, it might get crowded. Perhaps if after 24 hours and I don't get a total 8 players, the rest can be AI civs. What do you guys think?

Note 3/24/2006-1: All slots for this game have already been taken. For those who are in, please subscribe to this thread and see the latest post. Thanks!

This will be my very first PBEM game. The rules that heihojin sets forth for his games are the same ones I'd like to adopt for this game.

This thread will also serve as a way to let everybody know that they've have executed their turn and passed the game state to the next player. Other gameplay comments are also allowed, of course, but let's keep things easy and friendly.

So I have the following confirmed players:

  1. Darkhrse - random leader
  2. n0xie - random leader
  3. Shadowrydor - random leader
  4. Herandar IV - random leader
  5. J_RocKeT76 - Frederick, Germany
  6. Mîtiu Ioan - Qin Shi Huang, China
  7. Ravellion - random leader
  8. thelastmccabe - Victoria, England

PM me (and only through PM!) the following information if you're interested:

  1. Your CFC user name (required)
  2. Your e-mail address (required)
  3. Your leader preferences (top three choices, if any)
  4. Your timezone in GMT format
  5. The password you would like for your turn (required)
  6. Your SMTP server address (optional), and
  7. Any customized civilization information (Leader Name, Civ Description, Short Description, and/or Civ Adjective)

Let me reiterate the game settings:

  • Difficulty Level: Noble (for all players)
  • Map: Continents
  • Size: Standard
  • Climate: Temperate
  • Sealevel: Medium
  • Era: Ancient
  • Speed: Normal
  • Options: None
  • Victory types permitted: All
  • Game Turn Limit: 0
  • City Elimination Limit: 0

If for some reason, any of you cannot continue the game for whatever reason, please do have the courtesy to notify me and the rest of the players so we can immediately find a replacement.

Thank you and I'm looking forward to playing you guys soon.

I'd like to play. Sending PM with requested information. I'll follow the trend and go for random leader also. Looking forward to the game.

It's been a while since i've started a new game, and many of my current games have slowed dramatically, so I'm in. PMing momentarily.

Same here, saves me starting new PBEM, this week anyway. PM'ed details.

Hi guys! Thanks once again for joining. I'll be starting the game shortly and send off the game state to the next player in turn, which should be n0xie, if I did my job right :).

Let's have fun and do post here every time you do make your move and pass it on.

Game has started and the second turn has been sent to n0xie. Please post if you've made your move and passed it on. To the recipients, please post here confirmation of receipt of the game state so we know that the game is really moving.

One final note. I just realize that if you don't specify an SMTP server and hit Enter to end your turn, the game doesn't show you the e-mail address of the next person you should send the game state to. So please check your private messages because I've sent all of you a complete list of everyone's e-mail addresses for your reference.

Thanks and let's have fun!

Yeah, let's get it on!

It just occured to me that I failed to mention that I'm running the 1.52 version (patched) of Civ IV. I hope everybody is on this same version.

I am new to this and I want to make sure I understand how in game communication works. As far as I can figure out, I can't talk to anyone about in game issues or information until I make first contact with their civ. After that, I can pm or email them and talk about alliances, maps, or whatever I want. Is that correct?

As far as in-game communications is concerned, we can use this forum or maybe we can set up something so we can chat via MSN or Yahoo. Chatting in PBEM won't be very practical. However, the rules of trading remain the same. You can't trade with anyone until you've met them. At the moment, from my POV, you guys appear with a question mark beside your names, which means that I can't trade with you yet.

Anyway, n0xie has received the game but he has encountered a "The save file you have selected is protected to ensure that the assets in your mod folder have not been changed." after he tries to load the game state I've sent him. Any ideas what this error is all about, guys?

I think I may have found the solution to the problem.

n0xie, please follow the instructions here and you should be fine. If you have questions about converting FAT or FAT32 to NTFS, let me know. I've done this thing several times before and it's not dangerous at all to your existing files and setting. I'm assuming you're running Win XP.

Anyway, just for your info, I did not set the No Cheating option so just ignore references to that in the thread above.

I had the same problem when i started PBEM's. I had only modded with custom civs and maps. I had to uninstall, remove (deletes all your saves DOH) civ4 folder from my documents and reinstall game and patch.

I really think this is related to the 'No Cheating' option. If you restart the game without this option selected, there shouldn't be a problem. You can't cheat with basic MP anyway (unless you really really want to and are very skilled.) I trust no one needs this that badly.

You should not have to reinstall anything. I've had custom assets on my system since November and have never had this problem.

Like I mentioned in the thread where I posted the description of the problem, I did not turn on the No Cheating option. So this is not the cause of n0xie's problem. It has to do with him being on FAT32 and me being in NTFS, and the file I sent him having the security settings embedded from my O/S.

Obviously, if the solution I posted above doesn't solve n0xie's problem, I'll restart the game, with No Cheating turned off, and take it from there.

Well I'm sorry for the late reply guys, but I've been busy the last 2 days at the office. Deadlines and all that crap. I kept in touch with Darkhrse through e-mail though.

I'm running vanilla Civ4 with the only thing changed to it is patch 1.52. I've never encountered any trouble whatsoever untill this save game (not counting the occassional firaxis bug here and there ;) ). My harddrives are all NTFS so I don't think that should be a problem.

I tried every possible thing I could think off (looked through .ini file twice to check if I didn't have anything changed) but afaik all my settigns are standard. No mods are installed.

I'm at a loss. I hope with a new savegame, it will work, else my career as PBEM player will be rather short lived... :(

I'll wait for a new save file Darkhrse.

Got it...I'll restart the game and send you a new save game.

Thanks for your patience guys. Technical hiccups like this one is just par for the course if you're an IT guy.
