I think there should be a more advanced treaty system in Civ. You can agree to not attack so and so if they remove there troops from so-and-so's border. Stuff like that. It would allow the politics and diplomacy to be more realistic.

What do you guys think?

Maybe, like If you were totaly domonating you could put a puppet government up. Hmm just a thought.

That's an interesting thought as well,

Also, if a country is beaten, the winners can decide to divide it. Form brand new countries, Nothing like carving up your enemies country in the morning.

Wouldn't forming new countries be a little to difficult, like names, UU, leaderhead etc.

It might take a little work, but who says they have to have new units. They could have a generic leader represtenting the leader head.

They way I figure is that they might get an upgraded unit with special art if they desire it, nothing terribly uniqu, but enough to qualify as unique. The minor nation wouldn't quite be like normal nations.

And also, maybe each country can have special "Nation" names for this situation.

I agree with you! I think a more detailed diplomatic system would be implemented if we have the possibility of having colonies to become nations or a some kind of a cultural alliance for nations that are from the same cultural family to create an other nation! For instance, Portugal and Spain would be probably allies because their cultural ties are similar - if you fought in a war against a civ that have cultural ties similar to you, the enemy tend to forget your aggresssion faster! I also think the game would let you colonize other regions as a colony like the Europeans did in America or only building a structure only to collect the crops and other commodities, like the portuguese feitorias or something like that! Treaties of demarcation of territory were the causes for many actual and historical wars! So what do you think? Forgive me for my bad English! Thank you!

Good to see you Dr. Pseikone.

Your ideas will be unpleasant to some because it will make the game even more predetermined by which civ you play.
However, with a system which separates cultural and national borders, so that your culture can accumulate within other civs, we wouldn't need to base cultural similarity on similarity in the real world. We could base it on shared culture in the civ game.

National borders would then be subject to your treaties of demarcation and military might, without involving culture at all. One could then be a nation with a lot of land but not very cultured, which is certainly a possibility in the real world.

I agree with the advanced diplomacy...that would be awesome!...but the whole merging different civs into 1 civ(I.E. the english colonies to for the US...eventually), or splitting to make 2 different civs (I.E. the Czeck republic, and Slovakia) would requir for the 18 civ cap to be lifted...mainly because there are so many exploits thatcould be taken advantage of unfairly...but otherwise I love these idea's, It's extremely exhilorating to know I'm not the only one who wants more options than what are available in Civ4 ^_^

I think that a way you could split up a country(Such as what they did with Russia oh so many times), is that each country has certain names for countries that could come split from it, and, based on the region of the world, it could use a very generic leader head and name(Such as Mongolia having a generic asion guy). The small country would not function entirely like main civilizations. It would be like Belgium compared with Germany. But, with advanced diplomacy, you can protect these countries for an alliance, something in return, etc. The Minor Countries could mix things up.
