City 4 Production

What shall we build after the Archer in City 4?

We need to decide what to build next in City 4. It has an Axeman there now, and will complete an Archer in 7 turns. Choices:

Archer (7 turns): The SoW wants two archers per city for defence.
Barracks (23 turns): However the SoW wants the defenders to have upgrades.
Theatre (10 turns): Since this is a frontier city, we may want to start pushing the borders.
Other (varies): There are other things to build in the city. Please state which you prefer.
Abstain

If something besides Archer is chosen, we (MoI, Governor's Council, and SoW) shall work towards building an archer in another city and transfering it there. Until we start chopping those jungles, the city will not grow in population from it's current 1. A Governor should be chosen shortly after the TC.

(note: this is my first poll, so please excuse any errors)
 
Yes I want 2 archers but ifd they dont have upgrades then you need 3 archers. This is a front line city with many hills tiles available. It makes an ideal place to set up a production city for war unit production. A theatre is not needed. We get culture without any buildings and we will have all workeable tiles available before it can even be built. The ax man will stay as the garrison while waiting for the barracks and next ax to be built so there is no need to rush building 2 archers until they can be trained properly.
 
I voted Other, with my preference as a library.

As I recall this city won't have much of a productive ability so building a barracks seems wasteful IMO. Instead I suggest a library so after the jungles are cleared and cottages are built a library would make an excellent addition.

This site is an excellent candidate for West Point, the Heroic Epic, or the Ironworks.

When the site for this city was chosen it was picked for a few reason...first the gems but the fact that it could be a major production center. Site beta is the commerce city since it is on a river and by 2 lakes.

This city needs a barracks and to be used as Chill mentioned in his proposal. I voted for site alpah because of the one-two punch that this city gives. To get stuck thinking of this as a commerce city and waste 8 hills is insane.

This city should build a barracks and not waste a single turn on anything but production increasing building and units. If we turn this in to a production center BW and MG can become major centers of commerce buy working the cottages and the sea tiles of MG. In addition all of the units produced are closer to the front lines than those produced further away in BW and MG. Cut the jungles, mine the hills and gems. Even placing windmills would make this a strong production center. No city on the map right now can match the output of city alpha if given the correct land management.
 
First an archer to provide a much needed 2nd defender, then a barracks would be good. A queue of archer->worker->barracks might be even better, with so many plots needing to be improved.

If an archer is chosen, we need to decide what to build 2nd too.
 
One question...can someone explain the need for a theatre right now.. We dont ned to expand our borders to grab any resources and the "beta" site Will connect our cities from Abydos to Alpha. Becuase of the health issues at this city..a granary is a better choice.

In fact we will be at a full fat cross of city borders before the first archer is built.

/We are building an archer NOW...as SoW I do not want two unpromoted archers in the same city. Could we PLEASE consider a barracks before a second archer is built. We will have an AX to assit in protection until a promoted archer can be built. Withouth promotions archers are next to uselss in city garrisons.
 
i would like to change my vote to barracks. I would go archer-barracks-then maybe another archer or a granary or something else after.
 
GeorgeOP, I'm assuming that, since there is no current Governor for this city, that you're taking on getting the queue setup, correct?

Since city 4 hasn't even started, I interpreted this poll as being a question on the first thing city 4 builds. Since technically it's not building anything yet (no turns have gone into the archer), that's equal to the next thing.

I change my vote to other, with worker as the selected next thing to build. We have acres of jungle to chop there.

City 4 HAS been founded, and currently has 4 hammers of production into an Archer.

right this is supposed to be for what to build after archer since the archer will finish during this TC.

Also we have 2 workers in route and another being built up in BW so a worker would be a waste of growth right now.

Logically the build should be for a barracks...theatre is not needed for culture right now, units need promotions and 3 workers will be here before this city can finish building one of its own. A granary would be the only other option that "fits" the city and game situation.

That is correct, but I will simply change my orders to what this poll says. I don't want to make the decision, my job is to help organize the Governors and make sure the people's voices are heard.

Yes, I plan on completing the Archer being made now. It will be completed in 7 turns, and I didn't want to stop the TC just because our new city didn't have a governor yet. (the timing isn't quite right)

Also, we have 2 (maybe 3) workers building a road to City 4 right now. One of them is going to be remaned "City 4" and will be devoted to clearing the jungle as soon as the road is completed.
 
We don't need thatre now ... we have creative trait, so theatre can wait
We need barracks! ... Upgrades to units are great benefit!
