As soon as I realized I could attach fire to units I knew what I had to do :D
I present the Fire Mage.


Some technical details - he uses grenadier animations and you also need a modified grenade (turned into fireball) for him to work properly, but the thing is, it has to be in the grenadier folder (it's all in the zip). This is probably due to the animations referring to the same file. In any case, this means that if you have these both units in game then either the grenadier will be hurling fireballs (nothing wrong with that ;)) or the mage will be hurling grenades. I'm mainly counting on the fact that most mods will not have these two units together. :)

As a bonus I also included three vanilla units with the added fire - archers, longbowmen and catapult.

Nice job ! I already thoutgh of adding fire to the catapult, but to change the grenade into fire, it's a great idea :goodjob:

Yes we can put other effects on it but will this change the issue rabbit mentioned above? If you can't have grenadier and firemage in the same mod I doubt you can have two different elemental mages in one mod. Or am I wrong here?

Well I did a quick test and here's what I found out. If I copy all animation files into the new unit's folder they still work fine in game but for some reason the civilopedia entry gets screwed up. It still doesn't fix the problem though - whichever copy of the animations I'm using they still refer to the grenade file in the original grenadier folder.

Still, keep in mind that this is limited to the unit not the effect. If you only need one unit that "throws" a spell then you'll be fine. Heck, you can even have two throwing spells, one using grenadier and the other using skirmisher, in fact the latter one will work great for a lightning spell wouldn't it. :)

yes that's a great idea. okay two spells we get, with the ressources we have now, could be worse I'd say!

Adding fire on the catapult is a simple idea, but it really looks great.

I can't wait to test that Fire Mage ... here I go !

Hehe, glad you enjoyed it. :) And as for the meshes, I'm still not satisfied with the hood - it looks like on of those detachable ones on modern coats or jackets (sans the fiery red texture), but maybe it's just me :D
