TNT Files Term 7 - 9

TNT are at war with KISS.
Things look dire ... so far Nits are just watching they have a peace for another 6 turns.

This came in with the turn 120 save
Wanna buy some nice gems?

If we decide to trade, we should seek asurances that the gem supply is secure for at least 20 turns.

A pigeon just arrived ... with a report on the Explosive KISS action.

greekguy said:
Dear MIA,

I bring good tidings from across the sea. We have managed to successfully repel the Gallic Invasion. Many battles were fought, but in the end, the Galls lost 3 Gallic Swordsmen while we lost only 1 Pikemen and 1 Immortal. With only a half dozen enemies on our continent and our Southern forces moving up North rapidly, we will soon put an end to the Gall's invasion force.

However, my people are still angry with the Galls for attacking us out of the blue, so we want to give them a taste of their own medicine. We plan on mustering an invasion force and attacking them on their own land. We want them to lose cities and feel the pain of war themselves. We were hoping you could help us with this endeavor. We know you can't fight them directly, but you can provide us with invaluable information. For instance, could you describe KISS's homeland, or tell of any weak points in their defenses? Do you think their lands would be highly defended, after sending many units overseas in their surprise invasion? Any information you can provide would be immensly useful.

Also, we need to evaluate the Alliance of Science. My people still want to keep it alive and coordinate our research efforts. We are also interested if you are still interested in the Great Library Gambit and whether or not you are researching towards Education. So, things we need to figure out is which team will research what in the future and if we are still going to go ahead with the Great Library Gambit.

Lastly, my people have decided we want to honor your people with a city name on our continent. After your generous gift of gold recently, my people want you to have a city named after your people in the Greek fashion on our continent. Some suggestions we have are New Athens and Missing In Action, but we thought it would better to name the city after what the Greeks themselves wanted. So, please tell us what city name you would like to be honored with, and when our next settler band settles down, they will dedicated the city to the Greeks with a name provided by you. :)

Bye for now. :)

greekguy, TNT Greek Ambassador

Hmmm ... I'd be happy to suggest weak points :D

I'm wondering if they could sneak up on our eastern coast ... but I'm thinking that Nuts would see their movement ...

Maybe they could risk a suicide crossin?

I'm thinking KISS would be ready if they attack via the obvious safe crossing point.

Any strategies that people could suggest?

I have sent back this quick note ...

Greeting greekguy and all citizens of TNT.

We are delighted that your actions have costed the KISS dearly.

We would be only too happy to supply the intelligence required to assist in retaliation ... and will reply in due course with suggestions on soft targets.

At this stage we believe that the Doughnuts are still considering whether or not to join KISS, however we feel you are safe until the official peace ends between you both ... and hope that they will see reason in that attacking you is not in their best interest. We continue to plant seeds of doubt in the Nutter mindset that KISS are not as trustworthy as they would hope.

We will contact you soon regarding military matters and are still considering your offer for Gems.

We wish you fortune in the battles to come and we pray to the Meleet :worship: to smile and grant you Leaders when you Battle the invaders.

Regards

Feaurius III
Foreign Minister (still)

TNT is rather foolish and arrogant - I'm guessing KISS is still strong compared to them, so TNT wants to conduct an overseas invasion (difficult enough as it is) against someone in their Golden Age with a strong military?! I think they have let a few victories go to their heads - KISS could very well have another 8 Gallic Swords in TNT land next turn. But I guess we can give them whatever information they want and hope they destroy some KISS units before getting slaughtered - we'll have to look to see what we can recommend.

Regarding the Great Library Gambit - I don't know. The problem is we need Military Tradition a few turns before turn 165, so the Great Library needs to be completed early enough that we can see what we get and research the rest of the way to Military Tradition ourselves if necessary.

Yeah I'm getting the distinct impression that Provo was but a symptom of TNT :(

:mischief: makes interesting scenarios for us to orchestrate though

Regarding the invitation to call the next city with a Greek sounding name ... I would prefer to distance ourselves a little and not make it too obvious to the rest of the world that we have a link with TNT.

Hence my suggestion to call it April's Fool ... added bonus is a goad to KISS ;)

Here is a start ... mind you since they have circumnavigated our continent, they should have this intel :shake:

KISS Cities of the Green Continent

East coast - North coming down
Notthefullshilling ... early city therefore well established.
Idiote ... early city therefore well established.
>> Polecat ... slightly inland, early city therefore well established.
Crackhead ... founded turn 100.
>> DuMass ... swamp, slightly inland founded turn 109.
Nincompoopicity ... founded turn 112 and a border settlement.

West coast - North coming down
Frozen Lake ... early city therefore well established, staging zone for the invasion crossing.
>> backlands are dark to us, but suspect a city.
> Paradise Hotel ... founded turn 110, slightly inland with coastal view directly behind wine.
Dionysus ... founded turn 116.
>> Dresden ... founded turn 111, inland behind above city ... love to give the 'Bomber Harris'treatment (WWII fire bombed)

North coast - folowing the sun (East to West)
Notthefullshilling
Simpleton ... capital.
Jesterton ... early city therefore well established.
Devil's Soul ... established turn 101.
However in the ihinterland are a number of well established cities.

:hmm: Is this too much information (referring to when founded) ... but then again :mischief: worth some shiney crystals ya think ???

I don't think this is too much. After all, I don't really see what they could do with this. They'd be stupid to take the battle to KISS.

When I get a chance I willl look at the map and add some terrain info: They'll want to unload onto a hill or mountain, they'll want to be able to pillage a little, and they will not want to have to watch their 6.

OK no rush to respond to TNT ... but here is a lsi of things to enter into the letter

1. List of KISS Cities, coastal and those that taste salt in the wind.

2. Possible Battle strategies
... should include attack on both eastern and western coasts and also the quick yet risky suicide crossing where TNT attempt the unexpected north western attack.

3. Honour of City name declined and suggest April's Fools as a goad to KISS.

4. Gems ... although it seems that we do not want them, shall we ask for them in return for KISS intel?

5. Great Library gambit to be abandoned ??
... big question, and should be discussed especially as it seems that TNT/KISS extended peace is dependent on individual yet combined tech research and trading.

6. Extended Peace treaty with TNT
... what conditions?

Additionally

7. Regular Military Strength reports should be sent to each other
... or at least sent by TNT.

Note to Self and to Team ... :nono: I am starting to think of TNT as vassals or pawns, please lookout for this in draft correspondence as I do not wish this to show :D

Give TNT all the intel they want, but encourage them to make sure they build units first - only if they go several turns with no significant KISS landings should TNT actually start building boats.

I think asking for gems would be too much for the info we can provide. I think if one of our next settlers heads to fish and furs, we should give them our extra source of furs until they can reconnect theirs. Hopefully, they will reciprocate by giving us gems. However, I wouldn't broach the luxury topic yet - I would prefer to just give them furs and pretend we don't expect anything in return and see what they do.

The Great Library should not be built by TNT until they are secure - we can revisit it eventually, but I don't think we can plan for it or be certain we are abandoning it yet. We will have to wait and see.

I see no point in them building it since it they will not benefit much from it for the cost needed to put into it. Really for them it is a useless wonder. We are really the only civ that could benefit from it being built but we could build ourselves a greater one (scientific wonder) in Newtons Library. The 400 shields would give them thirteen Immortals, which is better investment with kind of shields right now. Everything is looking like they do not need the Great Library.

I've gotten a chance to look at the KISS map a little. TNT's idea of an invasion looks even worse than I thought.

There are only two places a landing party has any chance of survival, and that's assuming KISS doesn't have a unit occupying the tile when the ship makes land fall:

Paradise Hotel
1. West of the town (are those wines?)
2. SW of the town (on the sugar)
*In both cases, the attack would be across a river. That's not much of a defensive bonus, but it's something.
Frozen Lake
On the Mountain SW of the town
* This is a much stronger position, and there is even chance of eliminating one of KISS' luxury towns. However, it is unlikely that a TNT landing party will have any success, as this is probably KISS' staging area. So a mission here would be pretty stupid.

With the resources that TNT has, and with KISS being in their Golden age, I think a landing party is probably about as stupid an idea as building a useless Wonder during a war.

The only tactic I could see as being worth the loss of shields from Immortal production is a feint. Build 2 galleys, and sending them towards KISS' capital. One could head south along the KISS western shore, and the other could head to Simpleton. KISS will not risk a TNT landing, and would very likely line the shore with units so that unloading is impossible. This could tie up 6 to ten units that might otherwise ship out to the front.

Ok – had a few spare moments….
Here's a rough start on a reply to TNT.

Looking forward to getting everyone's feedback!

Dear TNT Brothers,

The news of your great victories have swept through the streets of every Greek city and have echoed through the halls of power in Athens. All of Greece rejoices with you in your victories. May Meleet grant you many more years of triumph.

We have many things to discuss together, and we beg you to forgive the long winded nature of this reply.

First, Let us speak of what we know of the Dark Kiss lands
Our Mapmakers and Historians have combined their records to produce this list of KISS towns. If you can tell us what you can already see, and what your Generals are interested in knowing, then we will be happy to try to fill in any gaps in terrain and town location.
Spoiler KISS towns & History :

East coast - North coming down
Notthefullshilling ... early city therefore well established.
Idiote ... early city therefore well established.
>> Polecat ... slightly inland, early city therefore well established.
Crackhead ... founded turn 100.
>> DuMass ... swamp, slightly inland founded turn 109.
Nincompoopicity ... founded turn 112 and a border settlement.

West coast - North coming down
Frozen Lake ... early city therefore well established, staging zone for the invasion crossing.
>> backlands are dark to us, but suspect a city.
> Paradise Hotel ... founded turn 110, slightly inland with coastal view directly behind wine.
Dionysus ... founded turn 116.
>> Dresden ... founded turn 111, inland behind above city ... love to give the 'Bomber Harris 'treatment (WWII fire bombed)

North coast - following the sun (East to West)
Notthefullshilling
Simpleton ... capital.
Jesterton ... early city therefore well established.
Devil's Soul ... established turn 101.
However in the ihinterland are a number of well established cities.

Military Strategy Talk
We've assembled our top Military Generals and had them pouring over our maps and intelligence information regarding KISS. We asked them to generate some ideas to send you regarding taking the fight to KISS.

Unfortunately, the news we have to pass on from our Generals is not especially rosy.

They believe that the combination of KISS in their golden age, Fighting on their home turf, Having access to their own extensive road network with a high movement UU, and did we mention KISS in their golden age – makes them an extremely unappealing target for invasion.

Even if a successful crossing and landing can be achieved without detection, KISS will be able to instantly move units in to respond from up to 6 tiles away (2 move UU on roads) and within 2-3 turns can have virtually their whole army at the invasion site. This fact, combined with accelerated build ability and improved cash-rush reserves makes all but the largest invasions Dead on Arrival.
(We also believe your current power score is weak compared to KISS. If true, this means a second wave attack from KISS is a greater danger to you than any invasion you can launch on KISS would be to them)

We would dearly love to see you sail across the sea and give KISS lessons in humility – but our top military minds believe this is little more than a fiasco in the making.

Therefore, our Generals recommend that you focus on fortifying your own defenses against a possible second-wave of attacks from KISS.
A secondary mission could be building a few boats to patrol your waters – and maybe even launch a feint to make KISS think an invasion is coming… and therefore unnecessarily waste resources on defense.

If you would be interested in sending us regular reports of your relative Military Strengths. (Average compared to X, Weak compared to Y, Weak compared to Z) then we will be happy to reciprocate. Together, we believe we can glean more info about the strength of our mutual opponents. Interested?

The future of the Alliance of Science
We believe we still have a bright future ahead of both of our peoples. A future full of cooperation and strategic coordination to leave our enemies in the dust of history.

At this time, it's probably still to early to revive the Great Library… and too early to declare it dead. The next several years will make the strategic picture much more clear. For the time being, the Great Library will just have to lurk in the background as we put other framework in place for our alliance.

If you'd be comfortable providing us with some numbers and estimates on your research ability, we can start drafting some plans and timelines for cooperative research.

Also – it's high time we had a formal peace treaty. Seems like a bit of a formality, but we're always eager to have a big state dinner and signing ceremony! A written agreement will simply codify the good relationship we already enjoy and lay the groundwork for future building of trust.
How about something along the lines of… "MIA and TNT agree to remain at peace and undertake no hostile action towards any of the other's units until they have both left the Middle Ages (at the earliest). Even after leaving the Middle Ages, this peace treaty will remain in effect and cannot be canceled without 15 turns written notice. The 15 turns of written notice cannot be given until both teams are in the Industrial Age. This treaty could only be cancelled early by joint agreement of TNT and MIA."
Sounding good?

MIA Goodwill
We are pleased to announce a second aid package for our brothers over the sea. As soon as the network is in place (in the next few turns) we will be honored to gift you some luxurious Furs. These should help you keep your people happy until you can reconnect your own furs that were destroyed by the rampaging Galls.

We appreciate your goodwill gesture of letting us name a city of yours! We think the name "April's Fools" would be good name and takes a swing at the KISS idiots at the same time.

Closing
This letter is already quite long, so we'll stop there.
We look forward to hearing back from you on Military info sharing, Science info sharing and the Peace deal.

All the best, and may your steel always be wet with the blood of invading Galls!
Your friends and Allies,
MIA

There is only one way how a TNT attack will prevail and that is we help them. There is no other way for them to get the attack going to succeed. So that would mean we do nothing, or break the treaty. basically we will do nothing.

Had a very infomative yet unofficially chat with Donsig ... not sure exactly why he cannot post this on his thread but has to do with demarkation.

Initially I was not going to post in consideration to Donsig ... but too good intel received ... permission granted.

So I consider this a chat between 2 hooded strangers in the dark corner of the dim lit tavern ... fire blazing and drinks slowly sipped ... just one conversation among many :mischief:

donsigw: How are things down under?
fe3333au: good ... look sorry about not responding when you AIMed last ... only found out when I woke up and your message was there ... so happy egg day
donsigw: no problem

MIA reply will soon be sent
fe3333au: we are responding to your request ... reason taking time ... we are still discussing viability of the various targets

<Wow ... at least one calm vox in TNT>
donsigw: off the record, I wouldn't put much time into that. We have one curragh and it's down by Athens. I don't see us building a fllet and invading Gall ... My countrymen get kinda carried away sometimes
fe3333au: But we will supply you the intel of coastal and those that can smell the salt air ... KISS cities ... I't will keep the more agressive busy making plans

fe3333au: btw I won't post this <refer to near end of chat>

<continued>
donsigw: Yes, it will - but we couldn't even conquer Iroq - I don't see why they think we can sail over the sea and take on the Galls ...
fe3333au: just quietly made some of us laugh
donsigw: hehehe

Matters less Agressive
donsigw: I've been trying to get us talking about the science alliance again
fe3333au: yes that will also be addressed in letter

Wow ... Wasted Shields
donsigw: We were up to 99 shields on our prebuild for the GL ... I hated to waste them
fe3333au: so none were wasted
donsigw: 69 were wasted
fe3333au: <censored F word> ... what did you build?
donsigw: yeah - we needed an immortal
fe3333au: Knight would not have been a less waste?
donsigw: we didn't have time to get chivalry from you ... we were in deep doodoo
fe3333au: damn ...

Deed Doodoo Indeed
fe3333au: well you fending them off though
donsigw: KISS will be upset when this is all over and they see how easily they could could have sacked our capital
donsigw: we build 7 immortals as our message said to you but only three were close enough to attack the Galls ... luckily, all three were successfull in their attacks - we took out their elite swordsman with a regular immortal

KISS Intel ... but remember nothing passed to team ??? :shake:
fe3333au: well KISS in golden age now ... but no change in Military Strength ... we still strong
donsigw: we were average compared to them for a turn ... they started their GA by killing off the immortal that killed their elite unit

About Donsig not being official in these chats
fe3333au: Pity I can't chat officially
donsigw: why can't you chat officially?
fe3333au: If I post our chats ... you get in troube ... yes?
donsigw: not if you guys don't relay what I say back to my team!
fe3333au: Oh ... but if I give you intel ... your team can't use it ... 'officially'
donsigw: not sure what you mean
fe3333au: If I give you information about KISS military strength in chat ... you cannot post that information on your threads
donsigw: right, you'd have to send that stuff to greekguy <Hmmm ...>
donsigw: but I'm pretty sure we all know you Grreks are strong compared to everyone
<Yeah yeah ... but that's NOT my point !!! :crazyeye:>
fe3333au: just takes longer ... as we draft letters and whole team inputs ... if it is a big topic
donsigw: I know. That's why I like chatting off the record. It can speed the process. I had quite a few talks with General Robi D as our war wound down
fe3333au: LOL I like Robi
fe3333au: He interviewed me for the next Gazette LOL
donsigw: can't wait for that one
fe3333au: Me either

TNT strategy ... just hanging in there
donsigw: The Galls have laid back recently.. We abandoned three cities so they wouldn't take any.

MIA News
fe3333au: We get Colossus next turn :-D
donsigw: nice - are the nutters working on that?
fe3333au: It doesn't appear on the F-7
donsigw: I know but my teammates say there ws something in the nutter rag about it. I kept trying to get greekguy to ask you all formally if that's what you really planned on building but he thought the Iroqi were building it - don't think that question every got asked of you

Observer unit soon to visit
fe3333au: We are also preparing a 'tourist' unit to send up your way
donsigw: tell him to watch out for the Galls
fe3333au: It could be usefull in clearing some barbarian camps ... if you wish <if allowed by Defence>

TNT's bent on things ... with little intel
donsigw: I think the Galls are sitting tight till the Iroqi attack us
fe3333au: Not sure if that will happen ... they are debating it ... but your peace runs out in about 5 turns ... yes?
donsigw: our first 20 turns of peace neded a while back - I really lost track. Before the Gall invasion we agreed to a 5 turn extension so we could work on a more permanent treaty ... they've been silent since the Galls landed

Donsig got right idea
donsigw: I want to offer them gems for 20 more turns of peace but there is opposition in my team
fe3333au: Same members that want to draft attack plans ?
donsigw: No they just want something for the gems ... they also want me to move up most of the pikemen I have defending the south
fe3333au: Confirmed peace is a big thing for you guys at the moment
donsigw: I know - tell that to my teammates!
donsigw: war weariness would kill us eventually if we have two wars
fe3333au: KISS staging base would be Frozen Lake ... nearest town to you

State of players in TNT ... obvious considering play style ... yes?
fe3333au: How many actives you got?
donsigw: active whats?
fe3333au: players
donsigw: depends on how you define active
fe3333au: active in voting and submitting ideas ... and potential players to take official positions ... Your structure is Turntaker, Diplomat and Domestic?
donsigw: lol - we don't have official positions ... greekguy is the only official we have
fe3333au: Od ... I thought you were President
donsigw: that's what I call myself

<WOW ... yet again>
donsigw: I think we've had one election back when Provo was around ... I tried getting up an election around the time our repbublic started and no one wanted to run ... So I keep playing the turns
fe3333au: we have elections every 20 ... and every 40 for the Team captain who is UN rep
donsigw: nothing like that over here

Worst case scenario ... hopefully not a prediction
fe3333au: Well if worst case scenario happens ... and you still want to play ... I can see MIA being happy to receive refugees
donsigw: We're not out yet.
fe3333au: You will find us very organised and structured
donsigw: We have to try to move forward and kill off the Galls on our continent ... They pillaged a key road so now we have to rebuild it.
fe3333au: I'm not suggesting that TNT is RIP ... we rely on our friendship to make a big difference in the game ... take the others by surprise

Research
donsigw: are you guys still researching theology?
fe3333au: got it last turn or one before
donsigw: did you move to education or invention?
fe3333au: I think we are going for Education atm ... but not absolutely sure ... we rushed Theology ... so need to get some cash
donsigw: I'm not sure when we'll be able to start researcing agian.
fe3333au: understand ... and don't expect miracles ... more important for you to be able to defend homeland
donsigw: I think we need to keep piling up gold. Using it to rush units whereever we need them will be important

Lux Trading Options
fe3333au: We may be able to trade you furs soon ... to help
donsigw: We've got gems for you ... I'm hooking up another gem in case we can bribe the nutters
fe3333au: good idea ... Nuts are happy to be at peace

Marketplaces
fe3333au: you got any marketplaces?
donsigw: no markets ... If we hadn't been so desperate for immorta;s we could have switched our pre-build to a market ... I'm thinking we won't need markets just yet. our silks will be hooked up soon

Game Rule ... to be aware of
fe3333au: One think ... remeber that there is a rule about no team shall extend War ... just to give War Weariness to another ... so if KISS don't attack anymore ... Peace should be granted by administrators
donsigw: We'll be attacking them soon <No Mate, I'm thinking longterm awareness :cringe:>

Linking Luxes ... maybe not such a good strategy for a weakened Team to consider
donsigw: we can also try to get our own wines and also can try to reclaim our furs from the Galls
fe3333au: Make furs low prioity as you can get from us
donsigw: couldn't do it this turn because our road link is gone. If we had moved near them they could've just hit our pikes and run out of reach of our immortals

KISS Numbers :mischief:
fe3333au: many KISS left?
donsigw: They landed ten - we killed three ... we can only see four - and they have five ships so they can be raiding our coasts
fe3333au: how many galleys was that? ... LOL you are a mind reader LOL

<Need to post this !!!>
fe3333au: Actually I would like to post this if it is ok with you?
donsigw: yeah you can post it - just please ask that no one leak this info to the Galls, the Nutters OR TNT. ;-)
fe3333au: of course ... This is a pub chat between to strangers discussing the state of the world LOL
donsigw: in that case I'll have another
fe3333au: LOL

Potential KISS activities ... yet they want to send most defences down south ???
donsigw: I think the Galls will try to attack from more than one place at a time next - and I'm sure they hope to do that inb conjunction with the Iroqi
fe3333au: I will try to get Nut intentions ... and then warn you if possible
donsigw: If our ambassador doen't contact the Iroqi soon I think I send General Robi D a confidential pm about the gems for peace idea
fe3333au: Robi_D will not be able to officially respond, as he is only a journo now ... But you can get his advice and also unofficial information
donsigw: I would just be putting a bug in the old general's ear about us giving gems for peace

City Number
fe3333au: How many cities you got at the moment?
donsigw: not sure
donsigw: we have 14 cities and a settler

<Damn they seem so uncoodinated> :wallbash:

City Naming Rights
fe3333au: Actually thinking about the invitation to name a city after Greeks ... I think I prefer not to make our relationship too obvious ... so I am suggesting April's Fool ... which could be a nice message to KISS
donsigw: I like that ... you guys should suggest it to us

<Again  ... easier if everything didn't require a pigeon to post !!!>

fe3333au: It will all be in the masive letter we are working on

Priorities at TNT meetings
donsigw: I don't know what it is about city names ... before the war most talk was about naming cities after our team members ... not how to build the GL faster, not where to make the settlers, just 'when do I get a city named after me/"
fe3333au: LOL ... we named workers after team ...
donsigw: inb our first war we named immortals but so many died - that's why I'm donsig IV now lol
donsigw: we're not using that practice in this war <why not ??? They dying too quick ??>
fe3333au: We discuss naming of everything namable ... adds flavour and atmosphere to the game
donsigw: It's nice but a team needs a little strategic discussion, too ... something we lack :-(
fe3333au: Yes ... unfortunately ... don't take this the wrong way ... but is most of your team young ... 20ish?
donsigw: not sure - Strider's under 20 ... BCLG100 is actice, and lost_civantares and greekguy
fe3333au: Our average age ... guessing ... is 30
donsigw: theoden and timbentley post every now and then when something serious happens <so are they around now ???>
donsigw: provo and vbraun aren't around anymore
fe3333au: did they say goodbye or just quit?
donsigw: just kinda faded away
fe3333au: Have you tried contacting them?
donsigw: no - I don't have time.
fe3333au: Cos we posted a question and surprising we did have some that still lurked .. just don't post
fe3333au: Not thinking you as you ... but as TNT
donsigw: there was a time when it was just greekguy and I posting - he contacted some but that was a while back
fe3333au: I guess too much for small number of people to do little things ... especially when you are a war
donsigw: yep

Sign Off
donsigw: well, I'm gonna call it a night and go get some sleep
fe3333au: cya and good chat thanks
donsigw: bye
donsigw signed off at 3:12:58 PM.

Maybe we should have an election to appoint a governor for TNT ... any takers ???

fe3333au: well KISS in golden age now ... but no change in Military Strength ... we still strong
donsigw: we were average compared to them for a turn ... they started their GA by killing off the immortal that killed their elite unit

Great news that TNT made it up to average (even if it was just for a turn). That makes it seem like an overseas invasion will be extremely difficult. It also means we are apparently still stronger than KISS (even though not strong from our Advisor), since TNT did not climb to average against us. I think you said a few times that we are strong compared to KISS, but we are only average - you might want to correct that.
