Here is the trade situation as of 140 AD.

Bismarck
We have Polytheism (231), Sailing (231), Alphabet (693)
They have Monarchy (693) but won't accept a straight trade

Peter has Monarchy and Monotheism (276 wont trade) and doesn't need anything we have

Genghis has Monarchy, Math (577 wont trade) and Horseback Riding (577 wont trade), doesnt need anything

Proposed trade:

We give Bismarck Alphabet and Sailing for Monarchy.
Monarchy gives us Hereditary Rule as a civic, which would improve happieness.
Since happieness is our 2nd biggest problem (behind finances) I recommend we do this.

Dave..why dont we use the war with Mongolia as a possible way to get Monarchy from Genghis.

We ask for peace and see if he would give it up. If he doesnt then your idea seems feasible.
Heck we could even demand it before the war and see if he blinks.

Yes, I thought of that and believe it may be better to get monarchy now and then demand Math or HBR in the peace treaty. The reason is that we can get happy now if we do the deal, and Bismarck is already close to getting Alphabet anyway given he won't do the straight trade. I'm interested in all opinions on this. It's also possible Genghis won't give us anything for peace, and then we'd have missed the window when Bismarck gets alphabet, given we have nothing else to trade.

Dave..since we are declaring on the first turn would you consider a demand then the trade or do you think 2 turns may be too long.

I am all for the trade either way...I follow your reasoning and think like you do that we need this soon.

This trade is quite resonable. As the ransom for peace with mongolia we can get something else, ane if Ginghis would decline, we can pillage some more improwments to make him more... resonable ;].

So the draft instruction would be:

Pre-turn: Demand monarchy from Mongolia. If the demand is refused, trade alphabet and sailing to Germany in exchange for monarchy.

On or about turn 2, when conditions posted by the Secretary of War are met for pre-positioning of forces, contact Genghis Khan of Mongolia and inform him we're gonna try to put his head on a pole. (Declare war)

STOP play when all objectives defined in the war plan have been attained.

Dave..Sounds good.

edited: I posted in your thread about the war goals...
