has anyone tried to replace all the units in original civ with flavor units?...if not, would this be a worthwhile endevour?...

I only ask, because (due to Narnia) I have been spending alot of time in the units forums, and was thinking about replacing all the roman units in my standard game(there are alot of nice roman units out there)...the next logical option is to do it to all the civs...

please post feedback...

I've done that to a great degree too. I based my mod on the GFX Flavor Mod, and then replaced half of those units with new stuff. And added a couple of tech/units changes, but mostly it's just flavour.

I mean not changing any CIVs or any rules, just unit graphics...

I also have MODded my personal version, but it has several civs not in the original game...Im gonna try to stick to the original, and just upgrade the graphics...

[edit] GFX flavor MOD??

Too lazy to do so.

Besides, French and German warriors probably won't look too different, and so would American and British galleys, and Chinese and Korean units.

As I said earlier, I'm too lazy to. :p

Besides, my HD only has something like 200 MB of space left. It is ancient. I can't hold too much more stuff. (most of it is civ stuff anyways)

Holy crap. That is the same space that 3 of my computers take up!

But then again... Mine's ancient.

And also, where are you going to find the flavor units for ancient England, Germany, France, and Rome and not make them nearly identical?

Are you serious?...Even if these places werent historically different(France = Franks, Germans = Germanic Tribes, Rome = Romans)...there are so many different units available, that if I decided to use one type of unit, there are 2-3 versions of it usually...For example, a Roman "spearman"...even if you cut it down a bit, say: 2 handed spear, no shield, no crest...I bet you can still find 3

What about units replacing the early units? (warriors, archers, chariots, etc.)

And technically, Charlamagne was the founder of both France and Germany, and their history kind of seperates from there.

So essentially you are suggesting that the slight minor differences in units be flavor units? (one with shield, one without, one with 2 handed sword, one without?)

No, Im suggesting replacing all the units with regionally specific units...so that every Civ doesnt play with the same units...turning every unit into a civ specific graphic, as per culture, while leaving the stats alone

As far as Chariots specifically, there are LOADS of chariots...Warriors are basic weapon using/and unarmored, there are loads of them as well...Archers(not to mention slingers and the like) are also plentiful...

At the moment, I have 700+ new units in my personal mod and counting. There's barely an original unit left. Most of the old units were unrealistic anyway. ;)

I dont think I have 700, but I have alot...the only problem with my personal mod is that the civs are not accurate...I like using odd units(like flamands Flash Gordon Rocket ship)

but I wanna do it, more accurate...
