NESlife
This is a war of evolution, where players have godlike powers…
Starting off in a primitive world with a few primitive species, the object of the game is to create new animal and plant mutations, and try to dominate the planet with them, by eating or otherwise outbreeding everyone else’s. Maybe there will be something like Earth’s evolution… Maybe, sentient species will emerge and it will eventually turn into a normal NES… Maybe it will just get weird
This is just for fun, im trying to keep it simple rather than aim for scientific accuracy… but I will try to keep it fairly realistic (hopefully with help from Disenfrancised)…
Players
To play, you can just post rough details of a new mutation. No commitment needed… My idea is that anyone can post to create one or more species, then just check back sometime to see how its doing. If you want to get any further into things, that’s up to you.
’Orders’
People may also want to specify where exactly in the world a new mutation will happen, or try to influence their critters to move to new areas, etc. Players might be able to take control of certain areas of the world with their species. I guess treaties and diplomacy could come into it somewhere
But all that is optional.
Updates:
In the updates, new mutations will get added to the world, with a certain starting population. This will be mainly based on the population of the thing they evolved from (which would still exist). Be warned that bigger leaps of evolution will receive fewer starting numbers, so it wont be possible to make too big a leap at once.
Also, time will advance by millions of years, and populations of existing things will get updated. I would try to work out which species are doing well and which are declining in numbers (they may even go extinct), as well as any expansion into new areas of the world etc.
Its also possible that massive natural disasters could occur, changing the shape of the world and altering the climate. Random mutations could also happen (random things added by me).
‘Mana’:
I will keep track of who made which species, and those people will receive ‘mana’ based on how many of their creatures are alive, and how large/sophisticated they are.
For ‘advanced’ players, Mana could be spent to change the climate or create natural disasters to kill rival species etc…
Turns:
Not really a turn-based thing or a fixed schedule. Updating should be pretty easy, so I could do it every few days, basically whenever there is something to do.
…
World history:
Epoch –999 to Epoch 0
Gradually, the planet surface cooled, the seas parted, and a great land mass rose from the ocean.
For billions of years, bacteria were the only living things. Some began pumping out a special waste product, oxygen. Eventually the ocean could hold no more, and oxygen began leaking into the atmosphere.
Epoch 1
With the sea full of oxygen and plankton, more advanced forms of life could begin. Plankton-eating blobs evolved and spread all over the planet. Meanwhile, primitive microbes began combining their efforts, to form algae.
Epoch 2-3
Blobs diversified into various kinds of creatures. There were now predators and prey. The amount of oxygen in the atmosphere continued to grow.
