Again a game of the FfH Design Team.

This time we want to go for a cultural victory.
We choose
Archipelago
Monarch
Standard Size Map.

And as Leader Perpentach. He is Philosophical and Creative.
So we plan on Great Bard Factories to get our Culture.

Our Starting City.

The first to huts gave us Mining and Bronzeworking so i went for the Philosophy and founded the Runes of Kilmorph with my free tech.

The Research path was then set to Message from the Deep as OO is the best Religion culturewise. And we will need a lot of culture.

Some turns later i made an bad discovery. Perpentach cannot build Obelisks so our first chance for an Bard is gone. The next building that allows Bard is the Theatre.. This is the next and only building and allows only one bard. Ohoh, we need some Animal Cages as they give Great Bard Points. Ok leave some tiles with fog and hope some Animals spawn. We have an scout with 3XP that will be able to learn Animal Handling when he killed one more Creature.

Furthermore we want to get the Liberty Civic which allows unlimited bards.. The Problem is: It is seven technologies in the future. We should try not to create any GPs until then as each GP is by far more expensive than the forgoing, so we want as many Great Bards as possible.

I found a second possible Great Bard Farm and end my turnset.

No obelisks definitely seems odd. Who knows if we can pull off the cultural bombs now...

I pulled the obelisk because the Balseraphs were to culture explosive with their animal and people pens. I will make an artist available with the Freak Show though so they can still get some GPP points flowing.

I assumed the reign of the Balseraphs eagerly expecting the culture to flow into our cities. No one would stand before us! You know what they say about best laid plans....

My predecessor had the empire running smoothly so my first few years were uneventful. Life was good. Our spotters spied a vessel from a distant shore late one evening, upon which a banner flew that we were unable to decipher. As it drew closer we prepared for the worst, but were pleased that it was a friendly envoy from Lady Capria of Bannor. We exchanged pleasantries and sent them on their way to explore around us, but not enter our lands.

Following the advice of the prior ruler the city of Hexam was founded near some gold to the southeast of Jubilee. The mountains there should provide a good production base for our people.

While overlooking some ancient maps I heard a commotion from the shipyards and raced immediately to see our first vessel being completed, a galley. Now our people can explore the islands around us. I picked our best fisherman as captain and sent he and his brave crew on there way to map our island and it's neighbors.

Not all was good as I learned that a mysterious religion we were trying to decipher, the Octopus Overlords, was founded in a distant land. My people are saddened at the news. So saddened in fact that an unwelcome religion of the Dwarves, the Runes of Kilmorph, somehow crept into Hexam.

Using courier birds our brave Captain sends word that he has discovered an island to the south with valuable dyes. We need to send a settler there quickly as the people cry out for luxuries.

Our sages finish up researching Message from the Deep (too late) and I set them on the path to the Wheel so we connect some of our resources to our cities. Our people are unhealthy and unhappy.

Again our Captain sends a bird to us informing us he has reached the land of the Malakin led by Varn Gosam. He must have made a fantastic first impression as Varn requested an Open Border agreement with us I sent word back to accept.

After researching the Wheel I instructed the sages to attempt to master Writing as our research is lagging. As my time draws to an end I saw the city of Argenteria founded at the southern tip of our island. I also have overseen the beginning of 2 more settlers for my successor to settle where he sees fit.

And so I appear, to take over control
My land it will prosper, to glory untold

The settler I took, and sent off to the east
The warrior followed, their worry now ceased

A village was found, and a city was made
But the warrior still in the distance did fade

Barbarians came, out of nowhere it seemed
They thought us defenseless, correctly esteemed

The city was taken and burned to the ground
The warrior gutted, as he too were found

Our warriors came, but it was too late
They found naught but rubble by the city gate

They travelled ahead, and destroyed the spearmen
But that will not revive our proud city again.

Meanwhile, our sages had learned how to write
The pen can be stronger than any blade's bite

They began to see how to measure up years
And further made pure wine to share with their peers

Intoxicated by the wine in their jaws
They set forth to discover religious laws

A great sage was born in our lands at the time
An academy built in our Jubilee prime

A new city was formed where the other once stood
No barbarians this time, all was now good

Another town by copper veins to the north
Though food there is scarce, there's no grain to set forth

Our galley encountered the dark-skinned elves
They seemed, just like us, to fend for themselves

Our borders were opened, their borders as well
They might become allies, only time will tell

A new galley was built, and sent off to the west
It carried a settler, to build a new nest

Alas, we could not keep our vessel around
Pirates attacked, no survivors were found

I now stop the story, another will start
Our lands they will prosper, with his divine art

(I just cannot help it, since dawn of my time
My words have been settled, in structures of rhyme...)

 for the :king:

That is a spectacular write-up man. Take a bow.

I think just having you playing with us should add a Cultural bonus....

And you remembered the save! :p

I found out that our freak shows are very well suited for culture. They give great bard points so if we built enough of them (and go for hunting first of course) we might do well culture wise.

Im grabbing the game in about two hours.

Yes, I discovered that as well. I have already built/started to build several of them. I discovered Tracking and Hunting, even though I forgot to mention it in my account of the game.

Tremendous write-up! I think Chalid is right. Your creativity should give all your cities a culture boost ;)

For the mod/game:
You are not trying to tease anyone, you are trying to torture all the fans!!! You are the mean minions of hell!!!

*breathes deeply*
Keep up those teaser games they are just great. :goodjob:

Who wrote those Verses into MY DIARY!! If i catch that clown i will pluck his teeth one by one and let him chew them.

Oh well were was i oh yes a funny thing happenend today. We found a Pirate ship and they attacked us feriosly. Oh how they attacked. The ship sunk and those funny bubbles... and the small Balseraphs all triing to swim with their funny bells and fancy clothes. Oh how amusing.

That all my funny diary. And keep your eyes open for that guy with the verses. If you meet him bite him in the hand won't you?

What? That man with the fur wants to know our map? OUR MAPS you say? Is this the truth. How dares he to come and threaten us to give him our maps? What you say? Well than give them to him, they are of no use anyway.

Ha that acrobat was really hilarius. Went to the barbarians and shouted: "Surrender or i will kill myself!" Well they did not surrender....

Do you see those dwarfs out there?
Yes I see them very well,
they seem to work as if behind
them were creatures from hell
.
Who spoke there. Whoever you are, tell the people they all are dwarfs from now on. What are you waiting for. Go tell them. What? You mean they do not want to be dwarfs? Now then cut of their feet than they will be as small as dwarfs anyway. And stick that stinking Scientist into his stinking academy. We want no scientists, we want bards to amuse us.

Again I read through my diary and wonder who it is who keeps sneaking into my study. My chamberlin claims he has let no one in but myself, he claimed it right up until I yanked his tongue out for lying. Good help is very hard to find it seems. I endeavour to find out who is writing these tales....

The governor of Hexam requested that he be allowed to start building Syliven's Perfect Lyre. After beheading him for interrupting my thoughts and for conspiring against me I allowed his successor to proceed. Why must I be shackled with these fools?

My fanciful acrobats took a barbarian city on an island to the south. Oh how I love acrobats.

My sages, who I know are plotting against me, finished researching Constitution. This allowed me to make some much needed changes to my civics so I did. For some reason everyone agrees with me now. Funny.

I learn that while my own incompetent citizens do nothing Capria has her people completing the Tomb of Succelus and Varn Gosam has finished the Code of Junil. When I question my advisors why we have not finished anything like this they turn ghostly white and become silent. Such insolence. As I was about to question them more thoroughly I received joyous news that my favorite acrobat had captured a bear and was sending it back home to be trained, just for me. Oh how I love Dancing Bears, don't you?

In Coombe View I receive grand news that a Great Person has been born. When he reaches Jubilee, however, I see that he is a Prophet and not the witty Bard that I was hoping for. He speaks of religion and saving my soul. I speak to my guards and he is locked away until he completes the Tablets of Bambur. Sadly for him the task kills him, but I'm sure martyrdom agrees with some people.

My worthless sages finally finish Liberalism. As a surprise I let them dance with my bears. I do hope they enjoyed themselves. It was a sight to behold!

With the completion of Liberalism I switch civics again and institute Liberty across the land. And endless supply of bards appear in my cities and life is good and fun. My own beloved Jubilee becomes a city of dance and song.

But don't think I've forgotten about you, my sinister sneak. Why just now I heard my new chief of guards talking in hushed voices about me. Won't he be surprised when he is dancing with the bears later tonight. Oh joy!

I forgot to mention the birth of Airodaunt Balon in Jubilee. Finally a Great Bard in 3 tries!

What's writ in my diary, not strokes of my pen
Who are these weird people?, I must ask again

My reign has been long yet events have been few
No armies we fought and no dragons we slew

Great people were born, the finest of men
First prophet, then worker, then prophet again

Our people despaired, they did not crave their works
For in human nature, a wild spirit lurks

The spirit of chaos, of muses, of rhyme
The great bardic music from the ancient time

Soon the desires of men were fulfilled
Great talents arose now, as prophets were killed

The great singers now joined our cities of three
And from all the world came the people to see

Discovered was magery, iron and priests
The last not the greatest, the first not the least

We talked with the envoys of elves and of men
One was offended, turned him down again

No friend of our nation is Varn anymore
His spirit is hatred as his heart grows sore

War is not yet on us, but I fear it may come
But our great works of wonder may yet comfort some

The lyre is now finished, a spire begun
Within few more years it will reach for the sun

While our empire still in Kilmorph put trust
Our outer cities did not feel they must

New religions are brought, from the sea to the main
Though faith can be complex there is much to gain

Temples of all should arise in our lands
Works fit for the gods yet made by human hands

I now leave the story, at least for a time
My tale is concluded, by this final rhyme

Oh this ruling is so exhausting!! Waiting till something happens ooh i can not bear it any longer. I tried, i really tried to have some fun. Sent all those Warrior to the bear, troubled my neighbors and turned down every deal they were offereing, but do you think thei wanted fun? NO! no one declared war on me. Oh its soooooooo......

I feel so tired.

- Miau -

Oh at least something funny. What a nice kitten. Oh stop that isn't a kiiten. Its a baby Wolf! What a strange sound for a wolf. Now my small wolf i call you Duin. I hope you will get stron bevore someone else claims you! O you do want some food. I got to have an Harlekin somewhere her. I am sure. I ordered some guys to train the art of uselessness! Ah here he is. Do you like him small kitten aeh puppy? *Splatter smash blood* You seem to. Now come small Kitten lets go to bed.

_____________________________

Here a short overview about our progress. If it will continue as is worked out in my reign i will not come to rule again. The slowest of our culture cities needs 84 turns if there is no increase in its culture output. Seems like an rather uneventfull game here ...

Do we keep playing or not?

Islands can be a drag if you want to use these cool new units!

Are there any new ships? Maybe you could show us the ships? Neehihihi, we like the ships, we really do, all swimmy and everything! Such nice ships. We really hope there are some vessels you could show us.

Go on guys, not all is lost, a lot can happen in over 50 turns.

Cheers
