More religions, inquisitions

I think adding new religions, and allowing inquisitions would be a good addition to the game. Inquisitions would of course attack non-state faiths in a city, which could get rid of the religion in that city or just cause a diaspora. I dont know if the inquisition would hurt or help happiness.

New religions? Zoroastrianism, Vodun, Shamanism, and "Nahuaism" (some other name for the Aztec faith)?

But is there any benefit to losing religions from a city? As far as I can see the more religions the better. Each religion in a city allows you to build that religions specific buildigns (ie temples, cathedrals, monastries), all of which give you bonuses of some sort. Later on, free religion is most effective in cities with multiple religions.

However, I do like the idea. Maybe there should be a new civic choice that grants bonuses to cities that only have the state religion. Extra commerce, happiness or science maybe.

As I recall, the number seven for religions was chosen because, according to Firaxis' beta testers, it was ideal for gameplay reasons.

They could have religions that "lose popularity" (like Zoroastrianism, and in fact all those faiths except for Voodun and animism)

If everybody could found his own religion it would break diplomacy, but I had a similar idea.

I guess it's theocracy that favors precense of only state religions,and we could make precense of other religions with theocracy leading to unhappiness of those with the non state religions,so leading to decreased production etc etc,in that case inquisitions could be built to eliminate the non state religion.
There could also be another idea which is bit crazy,some sort of migration of those with non state religion (or let's say being kicked out of thier country) to the nearest country with that state religion,pacifiscm or free religion, similar to what happened in history after Spain conquered Granada in Andalusia or after separation of India and Pakistan.

Civ IV is in dire need of Zoroastrianism, and I hope to see it added in the expansion. Other religions would be fine too
