In My current game on Chieftain I lost by a time victory to Louis XVI (I was second in score) and I'm going to play on perhaps another 50 years.

Do you ever play on win or lose?

My last game was played til 2052 (on marathon, no less). Julius Caesar and Mansa Musa were tied for first. I fell to third after leading through 2020. But I did build the UN in a last-ditch effort to gain Wonder points, and the game lasted long enough for there to be one secretary of the UN election (which I won), and one shot at a diplomatic victory, with the results posted in 2052. I could only get the support of one other leader though, and Mansa Musa ended the game with a sudden-death time victory.

That was my eighteenth full game of Civ4, all on Noble, and all 18 have ended in a time victory, one way or the other. I think the tech paradigm or productions for spaceship parts is a little faulty, especially on epic & marathon. At least at normal speed I've been an engine away from space victory, but nobody has even come close to the spaceship on those two slow levels. I mean, at least the AI should be able to win if I'm not...

Due to my playing style (currently) I oftenly turn off the histogram (2050) victory all the time when I play is because I oftenly survive past 2050, even with a lagging technology rate as well as expantion.

Do the game stops at 2050 when there is not time victory ?

Nope, you can keep playing for a long time. I sometimes like to go past this, but as mentioned earlier, it's usually to fire off all of my nukes.

the only time my game was not won by 2050 was my first noble. since thaty game i either win or lose well before 2050, so the whole time victory is not even a possibilty for me.

that said, i need a goal to continue playing. if the game is won/lost i start a new one.

I turn time victory off so yes. It ruins my score but I have a blast fighting modern wars.

I have on occasion if the campaign has been especially fun or if I've turned off the Time victory (I kinda like turning it off as of late) and have not yet managed to reach a decision. I haven't played more than an hour (I don't think) past 2050, however. Eventually I just want to start a new game.

I have played to 2150 and some beyond to see if barbarians ever build units more advanced than Riflepersons and Grenadiers. Alas, they do not, although they can get so far that they are discovering future tech.

I consistently play on Monarch now and rarely get past the 1900's. Honestly, I don't like the modern era that much -- I tend to lose interest during the Industrial era.

The modern era doesn't seem as fun for me as in previous civs. I think it's partly to do with the sheer number of units required by the new combat system. In the early game it's fun but in the late game it's just hundreds of units.. and by then my computer usually doesn't like to move them about all that fast either. I like to have my games wrapped up by the early 1900s if I can.

I only play until I have achieved victory(or defeat), whether that is 2050 or sooner, but never beyond.
