Fall from Heaven mod, version 1.0f

Size: normal
Opponents: 6 random
Map: great plains
Climate: temperate
Difficulty: prince
Leader: random (got wood elven)
Win condition: any

The idea of this SG: we will try to convert all the other civs to our religion. Our starting civ is random, but whatever civ it is, we must more or less rush to its "natural" religion. If we are able to found that religion, we must then spread it to all other civs. If we're not able to found it, we must immediately declare war on that civ and claim the holy city.

For example, if we're a dwarf civ, we must discover runes. If we're an elf civ, we must discover leaves, etc... Once the starting civ is known, we can have a small debate about what our natural religion should be.

Special rules:
1) we cannot raise a city if our religion is present in it
2) however, we must raise any city that is the founding city of another religion
3) we cannot build buildings or units of other religion
4) we cannot found other religions. This has special implication since it will force us not to be the first civ to discover a tech that could found a religion that isn't our natural one.
5) in our heart, we want to best for everyone, that's why we're trying to convert them to our religion. For this reason, we cannot declare war on any civ.
6) we can only have an open border agreement with a non-believer civ at a time. During that period, we must have at least one of our city producing a priest. Obviously, the goal is to try to make them believers asap. Once this is achieved, we can then negociate an open border agreement with another civ.
7) when we build a new city, we must found our religion in it the same turn. This means that our settler will always be accompanied by a priest. The only exception is if our religion hasn't been founded yet. This in order not to slow down our start too much.
8) if a civ declares war on us, and they own a founding city of a religion, our first priority must be to raise the holy city.
9) when we conquer a city, we must attempt to convert it to our religion asap. During that period, we cannot conquer other cities unless our religion is already present in it.

The above rules are open to debate. If you have any ideas on how to improve them or add new ones, I'm open to suggestions.

Lastly, I choose the great plains map because the AI doesn't deal well with water. It should be much more challenging.

Roster. 5 players:

1) DarthCycle
2) Xtream Rockstar (on hold, technical issues)
3) Good Sauce
4) open
5) open

Welcome to this SG, Xtream Rockstar

I will generate the map tonight and post a screenshot. This way, we'll know what civ we have and we can start discussing what our natural religion should be. We can also start discussing our initial strategy.

Map has been generated. We are the wood elven civ. Our (obvious) religion will be fellowship of leaves.

Here is the screenshot:
FfH-05 SG Starting location.JPG

Comments on our starting location:
1) This must be one of the crappiest starting location I had in a while. Only one ressource nearby: fur
2) However, considering our religion must be leaves, the sheer amount of forest could be interesting. Our elf archer will be efficient (good defense and speed), and when we get to the guardian of nature economic civic, we'll have a huge happiness bonus (+1/forest) as well as the +5 health. That will allow us to sustain a huge capital city.
3) We are situated at the northern part of the map since we can see the straight line of the world border. That's one least border to worry about.

General gameplay comments:
4) Our starting techs are ancient chants and tracking. I recommend we go for mysticism then philosophy. We might be able to be first to do so and thus gain the free tech.
5) We can already see 3 huts in our vicinity. With some luck, we might be able to pop-up some tech. We should use the scout to improve our odds.

Overall, all elements to make this an interesting game.

actually since we are near the fur it can help us with our religon Fellowship of the leaves.
The techs
Tracking
Hunting
ancient chants
Polysitcm (sry cant spell it)

A valid point. Let's analyze it:

Scenario A: Mysticism -> Philosophy -> (free tech) hunting -> elven studies
Scenario B: Hunting -> Mysticism -> Philosophy -> (free tech) elven studies

Scenario B saves us more research point since elven studies is more expensive than hunting. However, scenario A is a safer research path since the total research cost to get to philosophy is one tech lower: the cost of hunting. Let's not forget we won't be the only civ trying to get to philosophy asap. We won't gain anything if we're not the first civ discovering it.

Lastly, getting hunting early won't help us that much since we won't have a worker yet to build a camp on the fur. The fur doesn't really help a starting city since it doesn't provide a significant boost to :food: production. It does however gives us a nice boost to :gold:/:science:. But :food: is more important early.

By the way, polytheism is only usefull once we found our religion. So polytheism is probably our next tech after elven studies. It will depend on what our scouts discover in our area. If there's a lot of ressources available, we might have to research one of agriculture, animal husbandry or mining in order to exploit it.

Another thing: so far, they're just the both of us in the SG. Should we start the game or wait a few more days to see if other players will join?

I'm out for the weekend. I'm going to the countryside. I can only play my turn thursday evening (tonight) and won't be able to play until monday evening. So even if we start the game, we'll only be able to play once each.

If we do start the game, I recommend we play 30 turns each.

dude u should post the game in the registration thread so more people will join and post a link to this sg

Welcome in! Don't worry about your skill level, I'm sure you'll do fine. It's a totally different experience in a SG.

I'd like to try it too.
Like the player above, SG noob, I rarely win on prince.

Another player, woohoo! we're doing great. Welcome in picardathon! Just one more and we're set to go.

Okay fellow players, here's the journal for my turn.

Yr 0: Got gold from hut with scout. Sending warrior to north-east to get hut in corner since I won't send a scout there. We also see the eastern border of the map. This means we're in the top-right corner of the map. A good defensive position but we won't maximize the efficiency of our palace for corruption control. Setting research for mysticism and building a scout in our capital.

Yr 2: Got a map from hut with scout. We see the border of the undead kingdom on the far west side of the map.

Yr 3: Got gold from hut with warrior.
Yr 5: Got gold from hut with scout.
Yr 8: Got gold from hut with scout.

Yr 12: Made contact with Yaka of the tigran clans, south of us.
Yr 14: First contact with animals. Let's hope we survive. Being out of a scout this early is really bad.
Yr 15: Our scout won its battle against the wolf. XP! We made contact with Fangir of the dwarven empire. Got our new scout.

Start building a warrior but will switch to settler as soon as we hit 3 populations. Normally, I would build a worker in order to harvest whatever ressource we have around our city but right now, there's only fur and we don't have the tech. So settler will do. We should aim for agressive settling early since there's 2 civ nearby, and we want first pick on the best spot for our 2nd city.

Yr 18: Made contact with Silverback of the centaur commune. Our 2nd scout won a battle against a lion while defending in a forest. Gave him the combat I promotion.

Yr 20: Discovered Mysticism. Going for Philosophy.

Here's our strategic view at Yr 20. Lots of ressource south-west of us. I'm using one of our scout to explore the area in order to figure out a good spot for our 2nd city.
FfH-05 SG Yr 20 strategic view.JPG

Yr 21: One of scout made contact with the Nekron of the undead kingdom, our western neighbor.

Yr 23: I think we found our site for our 2nd city. If we settle on the forest, we have 3 ressources in the first ring of the city. They all provide 3 food! Not bad at all. Lets just hope one of the AI doesn't beat us to this spot. I leave the final decision to my successor though since he will have to make it happen.

Yr 25: We met Xabu of the Overlord empire.
Yr 26: Now this is what I call being in a tough spot. Will we survive this?
FfH-05 SG Yr 26 surrounded by lion.JPG

Yr 27: Nope. We killed the first lion but the second one got us. We're down to one scout and our valiant warrior defending our capital.

Here our strategic view at Yr 30. Our city is at the top right corner on this. As you can see, lots of ressource for grabbing.

I now leave the game in your capable hand, Xtream_Rockstar. May your wisdom and good fortune guide our wood elven civilization to success!

Save it at the end of Year 60 and post it for the next player

To all, don't forget to read our special rules regularly in the first post. We have specific guidelines for our conduct.

Lurker's comment: Guys, don't go for philosophy just yet, try to discover hunting first. The AI doesn't prioritise it that much in 1.0 version and you can almost always get two other techs before getting philosophy (and then get Fellowship for free) and that's on Prince. Since you're wood elves it's even easier cause you starts with techs which are required for Fellowship.

Cheers

Interesting comment. However, this has not been my experience at prince and monarch. I am often beaten to it. Starting with ancient chant does help since it is one less tech to research in the prerequisite for philosophy.

Brothers of the wood elven tribe, what are your experience (preferably at prince level) so far with the race for philosophy? Are you able to regularly discover it first, or are you often beaten to it? And how early do you usually try to go for it?

If the general experience is that we are beaten to it, we should continue our current research on philosophy. If however, the majority of us are usually able to research it first (without having to prioritize it that much), then we should probably switch to hunting then go back to philosophy.

This is where playing a SG is so fun, we all have different experience and strategy, hence a different gameplay.

Yes Xtream Rockstar, it is indeed your turn.

I encourage comments and discussions between turns, when the next player hasn't picken up yet. However, one shouldn't wait for comments or guidelines (unless he wishes to) in order to play its turn. Hopes this clarify.

None of the other player has posted comments, this means that you have the choice between going for philosophy and gain hunting as a free tech or switching now to hunting, then go back to philosophy and then (hopefully) gain fellowship of the leaves as a free tech. It's up to you.

I can't seem to get the mod installed, never mind.

im going to have 2 skip the game wont load and i have restarted my computer twice
