I thought it was time we had another look at naming stuff - we've discovered quite a lot more about the world since the last round of naming polls (most of which seem to have been posted by Swissempire).

For convenience, I'll post links to threads where we have named things already (the links will be to the last poll on the subject.)

If you wish to suggest names for things or suggest things that need naming, please make it very clear what you are suggesting and what the name should apply to! Otherwise, this thread is likely to descend into chaos ;)

At the moment, I am not setting a time limit on this thread - let's see how it goes. If we get some good suggestions, then I'll place a time limit on further nominations (at least 3 days) and contact the Censor about placing polls.

Possible Naming Scheme for Mountains

I think the first mountain we name should be honour of the spiritual guide/guardian angel of our nation: Mount Hatshepsut.

Then, to recognise our gratitude towards the leader of our nation, I think we should name mountains after our Presidents (once they have completed their first stint of office). Obviously we will have to vote on each one. Each President only gets one mountain, no matter how many times they are re-elected.

Here is the proposed list:
Mount Doom (...or maybe not  )
Mount greekguy (took over part way through Term 1)
Mount DaveShack (Term 2)
Mount Chillaxation (Term 3)
Mount Strider (Term 4)

Nobody will have to wait until he is no longer Pres to receive a nom.

Other Features

Continent

As far as I can tell we haven't actually named our whole continent (only the peninsular where Boaring Wallow is situated).

There is also the part of the continent below the Abydos isthmus to name, along with the Abydos isthmus itself (I nominate "Isthmus of Abydos")

Rivers

There are the following rivers to name:
  • Near Abydos/Constitution Falls/Fort Impervious
  • Near Old Sarai/Basillica
  • Near New Port City

Jungle/Forest

I think we should name the huge swathe of forest/jungle across what is currently southern Licentia.

We could also name the smaller area north of Abydos.

Bays

There is the huge inlet north of Auda City.

There is the bay where New Port City sits.

Lakes

Large lake south of Basillica.
2 small lakes north-east of Old Sarai

Hills

There is a very long range of hills stretching from north of Fort Impervious to north of Old Sarai and then on (via a small gap) to Toot Uncommon.

We could also name that small gap/pass in the hills.

I like the idea of former presidents getting Mountains named after them :)

Though maybe naming jungle isnt such a good idea because it's fairly likely going to be cut down.

Yeah, but the huge jungle is really HUGE. We'll be nuking the stuff to get rid of it

Some more name noms:

Range of hills: Upsan Downs

the bay where New Port City sits: New Port Bay

River Near Abydos/Constitution Falls/Fort Impervious: River Sirian

the huge inlet north of Auda City: Firth of Mirth (hmm...not sure about that :) )

Lake south of Basillica: Loch Andkee

By the way, I discovered we appear to have spelt Basillica wrong :( : OSC spelt it Basilica. Do we want to change?

A nom for the name of the river near Abydos/Constitution Falls/Fort Impervious:

The Try-City River

A nom for the name of the continet:
Surda

It's too bad though that I never got to nom names for cities, I had 2 really good ones.

I would like something named after AlphaWolf. He did write our Code of Laws (with help from a lot of people) and was our first elected President.

I am not sure that would go over well...Might be similar in naming the Bahgdad Airport after GW bush. :) Not going to be a popular choice..however despite his failings we stilll need to look at what Alphawolf accomplished not what brought him down. I too would vote yes for it.

I would like to name the equator (between 1S and 2S of Toot) the Lawfull Line.

Range of hills: Da Bumps

the whole continent: Chipland

River Near Abydos/Constitution Falls/Fort Impervious: River Chip

the huge inlet north of Auda City: The Auda Inlet

Lake south of Basillica: Lake Swimmingandfishing

This is a shocking confession from your Cartographer (who the hell elected me? :crazyeye: ), but how did you work out where the equator was? I kind of assumed we were about there (given all that jungle and that things seem to get more temperate north and south, but how do you know exactly where the equator is? Also, how do you work out where to build the Space Elevator (+/- 30 degrees I think?)

I thought we needed Calendar(?) or Stonehenge to see our place on the map, and even then I wasn't sure how to tell (other than counting squares from the top and bottom) exactly where it was. Any info gratefully received.

There is an option to see resources. If you put it on you'll see a circle with the resource in it and it points away. If it points up, the place is below the equator, if it points down, the place is above the equator.

So basically, the resourceflags are pointing in the direction of the equator.

lake by Basillica: Deep Blue Lake

lakes by Old Sarai: Lake of the Fallen Khan
