has anyone come up with a mod that automatically changes a captured city's name based on who owns it. for example, if the spanish capture "London", it would become "Londres".

i have made a large list of these exonyms but i have no idea how to work with xml or python in order to establish this as a working mod.

anyone is welcome to participate seeing as to how without you, this will never get done.

PolishAssassin,

send me the list and I'll hack something up for you. It shouldn't be too hard...
:hammer2: knock on wood :hammer2:

Rhye has something similar in his mod. It should be fairly easy to code once you have the list of alternative names.

EDIT: Yes, it's true... I spent 15 minutes writing this post - got distracted by Yetisports.

i did egypt first........here's an excel file.

if the spot is blank, it means i couldnt find one for said city and it should be the same as whomeer had said city last.

Do me a favor, if you can't find the name for a said city can you please put in the default city name instead of leaving it blank?

Thanks

PolishAssassin, you might be interested in checking out my city names mod - see my sig! I'm certainly interested in seeing your research, at the least, as it will save me time on mine. :-)

Arkaeyn, I think what he is looking for is for when a city gets conquered it gets renamed with the conquerers naming flavor of the city.

i've just finished the Aztecs and Americans......basically the aztecs is just changing Tenochtitlan to Mexico City and it's exonyms....America took some work. (note: all Japanese names have been converted to "romaji" and all Chinese names to "pinyin")

I know - that's one of the many things I'm working on.

Ok then, I will step aside and let you work your magic.

Anyway, PolishAssassin, I'm excited to find someone else who's interested in fiddling with the Civ city names. Personally, I'm most interested in different names of cities as they were owned by different civs. The easiest example I can give is Massilia (Roman) and Marseille (French). Check out the names thread.

Also, the second to last post in that thread details what the Python code for city name changing looks like and where to find it. I would greatly appreciate if you could join in and share your ideas!

I'm a big fan of TheLopez as well, but in the meantime, you may also want to look at the GreekWorld mod included with Civ4 -- it handles name changes as well (though not, IIRC, using a generalized methodology, which I'm sure TheLopez will be setting up as part of his proposal :) )

That's exactly what i'm trying to accomplish....i just thought i was the only one.

still working on finishing the complete thing......transliteration is a time consuming process

question for cosmetic reasons: how do i move all downloads to the first post?

well, i've realised as i was doing this that my Greek is a little rusty :) so if they are any Hellenes out there that can help transliterate your work would be greatly appreciated (same goes to those with knowledge of Arabic, Farsi, Japanese (converting to Romanji) and Chinese (converting to Pinyin)). at the very least you're needed to check my work

it's been a month, i'll safely assume that interest in said endeavour has been lost on everyone but me. i hope to be proven wrong. if still interested in this crusade please let me know by posting on this thread
