I've been everywhere, man
Now, I usually never dip into making figure units. That said, when I got back from the long weekend and was working on a WW2 weapons pack, I decided to give it a try.

This units has been requested many times by different people. It's a simple reskin of the marine unit holding an MP40. I'm not great at skinning, but I think it came out OK. For those of you who are wondering about his gun, it's going to be in the weapons pack along with many other WW2 guns (as soon as I finish them, that is).

This unit uses the marine animations, so please point to the marine.kfm file in your XML.

ENJOY!

:goodjob: Nicely done. The Submachine gun looks nice, It's going to add more flavor to the game! I second the req for a red army soldier with a Ppsh 41 or a Mousin Nagant rifle. That would be cool!

That's a great unit smitty - the gun looks great and the skin is also very well done. :thumbsup:

Beautiful :) Very nice model and skin:thumbsup:

It came out great. Very impressive. :goodjob:

The unit looks great :goodjob:

when I use this skin.... everything works except the gun is still the AK47 and not the MP40 :sad:

I know I am missing something... any ideas?

When you use the unit, make sure to place all of the files included in the .zip into the unit folder. The WaffenSS.nif file includes the MP40 model. Without it your guy will still have the AK47. I can't think of any other reason it doesn't show up. Hope that helps!

I made a new folder for the waffen

I copied all files from marines in that folder...

I then copied your files into that folder (overwriting some files)

I also made sure the CIV4ArtDefines_Units.XML defines the new unit but points to the new folder (with the same marine file names)

it did not work :mad:

I noticed that your waffenSS.nif file is not referenced so I tried to change it marines.nif ... but that didnt work either :(

any ideas?

Try this (ignore the lack of indentation):

<UnitArtInfo>
<Type>ART_DEF_UNIT_WAFFENSS</Type>
<fScale>0.44</fScale>
<fInterfaceScale>1.0</fInterfaceScale>
<NIF>Art/Units/WaffenSS/WaffenSS.nif</NIF>
<KFM>Art/Units/Marine/Marines.kfm</KFM>
<SHADERNIF>Art/Units/WaffenSS/WaffenSS.nif</SHADERNIF>
<ShadowDef>
<ShadowNIF>Art/Units/01_UnitShadows/UnitShadow.nif</ShadowNIF>
<ShadowAttachNode>BIP Pelvis</ShadowAttachNode>
<fShadowScale>1.0</fShadowScale>
</ShadowDef>
<fBattleDistance>0.35</fBattleDistance>
<fRangedDeathTime>0.05</fRangedDeathTime>
<bActAsRanged>1</bActAsRanged>
<TrainSound>AS2D_UNIT_BUILD_UNIT</TrainSound>
<AudioRunSounds>
<AudioRunTypeLoop/>
<AudioRunTypeEnd/>
</AudioRunSounds>
</UnitArtInfo>

It looks like any plans for unit creation I had for tonight are scrapped... I'm going to go ahead and write a tutorial on how to do this because everybody is making the same mistakes and it's starting to tick me off [pissed] ... just a bit :D

I needed to change this line
<SHADERNIF>Art/Units/WaffenSS/WaffenSS.nif</SHADERNIF>

Yeah, I hate getting asked the same thing over and over. But that's just part of a unit makers job I guess. ;) Thanks for tackling it though.

I hope you didn't take my comment personally. I am mad at everyone.

:D

I thought of the skin a little more black. Not so much of the Greyish green color.
Now we Just need a Nazi Germany Civ and we can tie all the stuff out there together, appropriately.
