OK, I know this has been done before, but, because of a request, I'm doing it again. Since there aren't enough options, I've divided the poll in half. Vote for your 5 favorite civs in this poll and 5 favorites in the other poll. I'll take the winners (probably 8 from each) and face them against each other in a final poll. So please vote, the poll will run for 3 days :)

Can you define "best" for me? I mean, the Romans are "best" for game historical reasons, but not the "best" in terms of "most powerfull."
Then there are the civs that the AI can handle best, and the civs that are the best only when in the hands of a human player, etc.

Not to mention the civs that are the most powerfull in the hands of a vet, and the civs that a newbie can handle more easily.

Vanilla player here, so I'll only vote in this poll and evaluate the civs based on Vanilla rules and traits.

China gets my vote.
• A UU (Rider) that is not good, superb, or terrific: It is beyond that. It is an exploit.
• The two best traits, Industrious and Militaristic.

Also good
France, based on her traits. (Ind & Com)
Iroquois, based on the UU (Mounted Warrior)
Persia, based on one trait (Ind) and a decent UU (Immortals)

IMO

Oh, and it looks like I screwed up. I only voted for China :o

Well, I made my votes, but my previous post still stands.
And yeah, there is a big difference between C3C and Vanilla.
The Agri civs in C3C are basically dominating.

The overall most powerfull civ in the game (note I didn't say "best") in C3C is probably Iroquois, becouse they are Agri, commercial and have the most powerfill AA unit. Only on an island map are they surpassed by the dutch.

Whatever is best to play in your opinion for whatever version you have. Probably not best for the AI to handle (human players might be more accurate to consider), but its really up to you how to vote (I'm not too picky here ;) ).

Still no-one quite displaces my beloved Egyptians as my favorite civ. :D

Oops, I only voted once... Didn't read the comments first. But I vote Japan. Because religious and militaristic are the best combo EVER! You can turn war mode on and off so fast, and you can cheaply rush temples, barracks and walls in newly captured towns. You get tons of leaders to rish Heroic Epic, Pentagon, Military Academy and Iron works AND SAMURAI just rock, for a pretty long time too. And they are a cool color.

the Zulu(I actually like them)

Its nice that someone does. You haven't been following the conversation I had at Apolyton by any chance, were you? :mischief:

That's a pretty good spread on the results--showing that lots of people have lots of different opinions and personal faves. It's probably all for the best that there isn't one overwhelming favorite. I still can't believe anyone voted for the Aztecs or the Yanks. When I first got the game I played the Americans, but mostly for jingoistic reasons.

Persia - 9
China - 8
Rome - 5
France - 5
Egypt - 4
Greece - 4

I tell you who the AI kicks butt with, however--the Iroquois. I prefer to let the game randomly select my opponents so that my games are as much of a surprise to me as possible. But whenever the Iroquois take the field, they pretty much dominate their continent. If I can't knock them out in the Ancient Times, I already know who my final rival for world domination is gonna be. Sadly, sometimes I'm not a rival to them once I get up to monarch games. Lately I've gone into the editor and emasculated the Iroquois, made them slower builders, just so's the rest of the civs have a fighting chance.

I've never played France, but that's b/c the French AI always wants to stab me in the back. She is truly ruthless, mean, unprincipled, and bears a freakish resemblence to my college girlfriend, which frankly doesn't help matters.

(on edit)

Forgot to add: I voted for the Persians. I like that scientific trait, altho I'm still adjusting to C3Conquests and the oomph that the Agricultural trait adds to your gameplay. In c3c there is one civ that's Agri-Sci, but that's Sumeria and for some reason Sumeria sucks wind. Sometimes I'll stop a successful game strategy just to kill them off b/c they're so useless.

I didn't vote for them, but my second fave is the Russians. Sci-Expansive is a nice combo, but what I really love is the Cossack. I don't see why people get worked up about the Chinese Rider. My Cossacks consistantly whack down Riders without breaking a sweat.

China, Germany, Greece, Iroquois, Persia

Because the the rider comes way before the cossack and is cheaper. Conquest comes better ealier, and by the time you get cossacks, nationalism (rifleman) is right down the road, especially for scientific civs.

Also, People have a habit of comparing attack of UUs to other UUs regardless of time period. Time period is perhaps the most important part of a proper evaluation of a UU. That means how good it is for its time, not the attack being stronger than another UU of a different era.

I like Ansars better, but not Keshiks.

China's militaristic and industrious are a good combo, though.

EDIT: A half-hour left in voting :)
