I'm pretty disapinted by the lack of "knowing". In Civ4 we have Mali, Zulu and other civilizations, but nobdy knows about Dacia.

Well, for future reading see this:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dacian

and you will see that DACIA was a pretty good civilization. Also, by the time Romans invaded dacia, they kept about 40% of ROMAN army on the teritory of DACIA witch is A LOT!!

Also, the teritory of dacia contain "SALT" and "GOLD" witch at that time was very very important. You can just read there and you will see why DACIA should be a civilization in Civilizations 4 ;)

i have to agree with u. while dacia may not be the most obvious civ to create i'm surprised that no-one has done it yet. (sorry if i've missed a dacia civ out there)

What exactly is the historical siginificance of Dacia?
well, it was the richest "territory" around that time. that "territory" was the most visited territory by migration nations.

A kingdom of Dacia was in existence at least as early as the beginning of the 2nd century BC under a king, Oroles. Conflicts with the Bastarnae and the Romans (112 BC-109 BC, 74 BC), against whom they had assisted the Scordisci and Dardani, had greatly weakened the resources of the Dacians.

Under Burebista (Boerebista), a contemporary of Julius Caesar, who thoroughly reorganized the army and raised the moral standard of the people, the limits of the kingdom were extended to their maximum. The Bastarnae and Boii were conquered, and even the Greek towns of Olbia and Apollonia on the Black Sea (Pontus Euxinus) recognised Burebista's authority.

Indeed the Dacians appeared so formidable that Caesar contemplated an expedition against them; something his death prevented. About the same time, Burebista was murdered, and the kingdom was divided into four (or five) parts under separate rulers. One of these was Cotiso, whose daughter Augustus is said to have desired to marry and to whom Augustus betrothed his own five-year-old daughter Julia. He is well known from the line in Horace (Occidit Daci Cotisonis agmen, Odes, III. 8. 18).

Conquest of Dacia:
To put an end to this disgraceful arrangement, or perhaps to restore the finances of the Roman Empire by capturing the famous Treasure of Decebalus, Trajan resolved to conquer Dacia, thus gaining control over the Dacian goldmines of Transylvania. The result of his first campaign (101-102) was the siege of the Dacian capital Sarmizegethusa and the occupation of a part of the country. The second campaign (105-106) ended with the suicide of Decebalus, and the conquest of the territory that was to form the Roman province Dacia Traiana. The history of the war is given by Dio Cassius, but the best commentary upon it is the famous Column of Trajan in Rome.

The Romans conquered only a portion of Dacia. Most of the Romanian historians and linguists believe that many of the Dacians became Romanised.

Also read this:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dacian_Draco

After the Dacian wars the draco was adopted by Roman cavalry.

They also "stopped" the Celts from etering Dacia...

It always gets left out. :shake:

Even some Ancient scenarios leave it out, or just put some random barbarian tribe in it's place. I hope the TAM in civ4 will have Dacia as a civ too.

In all honesty I would have Dacia in before a few civs that made it into the game, but I think they made a concious decision to back away from releasing another European Civ

it isn't just another european civilization, it's just as good as Romans. Or...maybee not, but at that time, Dacia was one of the bigest and richest country/territory.

If there is any missing european civ then its the dutch!
I really miss "silly billy" (a.k.a William of orange) from Civ3.
Dutch empire is far more superior than dacia ever was.

Also, Poland is a big contender. The livonian knights order had a territory from poland, baltics and parts of russia. They even burned moscow once. The Czech republic today is the country with most castles/km2, around 1200 castles I think they still have, and its a very small country. Hollywood movies are recorded there now very often.
And how many doesn't want to change the history in game and maybe stand with tanks against panzer vs the germans ;) instead of cavalry vs panzer as in reality.

Bulgaria is a third contender, the bulgarian empire was at a time quite big.

Dacia I can put on a last place, together with thracia and neighbouring ex-byzantic territories.

Other civs, where are the north american indians??? Give us Crazy Horse & Sitting Bull as leaders, and all cities can be called apache, comanche etc.

African civs like Ethiopia, and the old Bantus, know that bantu civilization and language is the base of 80% of todays african culture. They had agriculture since year 5000 before christ. They had methods to avoid the mosquitoes by building smaller cities on a far distance. Which could make them EXP/CRE

South american = Maya which was in civ3 also.

The maya and aztecs are from central america. The Inca ar from South America.
And yes, all 3 of them were in civ3. :)

Although I don't want to start a debate in a thread not associated with it I would have to disagree about the Dutch. In terms of Civilization they were negligable and if you "let them into the Civ4 family" then you'd have to bring in the Portuguese as they had an equally similar impact to the world stage.

Bulgarians.......... na, not at all.

Poland...... yeah I'd say so, big Middle Ages power, but if you include them, what about the Grand Duchy of Lithuania?

what the heck, hope firaxis introduces another 20,30 or 40 new races in next expansion ;)

So everyone can be happy hehe

the topic is about "Dacia" not about poland & other countries :)
I agree that there weare other powers, but on that period, Dacia was a power, maybee not a "brute force" power, but it was rich.

I agree to introduce Dacia in Civilization. There are many other romanians that want Dacia in game.

No one cares about Dacia, that's why.
And that's why it's neither in nor should be in.

Hello guys

Those of you who want to play Dacia you can find the "Getai" civ created by a good mod developer.

Just search the forum for the getai and you can enjoy it. Follow the instructions for installing it though... It's not much, but still you need to do some small adjustments.

Those who say Dacia does not count nor does anybody care about it are (pardon my french) just simple ignorants. With the gold captured from the dacians Rome spent years in good times, Trajan built his forum in the city, etc...
