Well, went out and bought the expansion yesterday and will have to say Im a bit upset with the lack of new military units (espec compared to civ III), new wonders, and no new resources. I guess I was expecting there to be more 'stuff' for the main game but it appears they worked heavily on the scenarios (just from what I looked at in the book) of which Im not interested in at all. If your looking for more stuff for the main game I wouldnt even bother paying the 30 dollars for this expansion.

Sorry Fraxis but you guys really humped the bunk on this one...

You knew the expansions was mainly focused on the Scenario's, just as the lack of new units in the core game.
It's indeed a bit light as an expansion, but still very enjoyable, and you should really try the scenario's, they are fun :)

Above poster makes a good point. It's common knoweledge what the expansion contains. Even if you don't know, you can easily go to plenty of places on the internet and find out basically EXACTLY what it contains. So it's kind of your own fault if you feel you waisted money.

:king:

And what good would more resources bring to the game?

They would have to rebalance everything in regards to the total number of resources. If they added 5 more resources, it would devalue the importance of the other resources.

It is only $30 anyway. That is the cost of going to the movies and getting a drink and popcorn

I still think vassalage is nearly useless.

All i get is open borders and my weakened enemy to declare war on my enemies...

And he doesnt have to give into my threats...

I think he means if you got a date, because then its about 20 bucks and 10 for two large cokes and a large popcorn(Combo Deal) LOL..

I love Capitulation, It Guarentees and Ally. One my First game of Warlords(which I'm gonna have to wait til it gets colder outside to play another so I dont feel like I wasted a week lol) I wanted to wage a holy war, but knew my fellow Christian Nations would not go along with it.. So I enslaved Egypt, then Rome, then China, and then the Zulus got on my nerves and them too.. This gave me the Advantage on Every Continent. I would hit from one or two directions, my enemy would be racing towards my nearest vassal, So half his troops would be deployed or getting ready to deploy as my troops invade his continent...

It Also gives you more power. and you can scam your Vassals into giving you a 30+ gold a turn for spices, then 60 for Bananas, and then 50 for wine.. Giving you 140+ Gold from each Civ... I mean only the ones you don't cripple can do that lol...

nothing would need to change - adding more health or happiness resources just means theres more to choose from when randomizing the map.

False. The game is balanced around the number of resources available. Adding more health and happiness resources means it's easier to get bigger cities. Strategic resources are actually the easier ones to add because they don't affect anything that's already in the game.

Forget the internet; the back of the box covers what's in the expansion.

There are a lot of subtle changes under the hood that make it a worthwile experience alone. A lot of things have been changed after the massive playtest after the release. You can still chop or whip, but it just isn't as effective as it used to be - but more comprehensible at the same time too. I always got nervous when chopping for a settler while building a warrior and growing my city at the same time - no more: all hammers chopped will turn in the next turn. Slower, but you can always change your building queue in time.

Same goes for worker steal. The building queue is somewhat more logical to new users. Grouping units seems to be more easy. And the list goes on.

And if you want new resources, just play the Chinese expansion. It seems great to me!

Unrealisic expectations lead to disappointment. The reason so many marriages fail is because both the husband and wife are like ticks looking for a dog and once they are married they find out they are both ticks. (Each one is looking to the other to meet his or her needs/wants rather than satisfying the needs of the other.) I appologize for offending all of you other ticks out there.

Silly us expecting value for money I guess what you saying is you expected Expansion to be crap and so you weren't dissapointed as it is just that. The scenario's which I dare say alot of people won't look at are all on a time limit WTH is that all about?Warlords feels like here you go these are the bits we failed to or
held back from the orginal release. What you have to ask yourself is would you pay the price of Warlords for a patch because this is what you get.The only plus I can see is the modders will get a more polished graphics to use.

I am also disappointed. I only buy about three games per year, so each selection has to be carefully considered. I enjoyed Civ4 and expected Warlords to take things to a whole new level. New leader traits! New civilizations! New units! New wonders! .....

Like many other people, I spent my hard-earned money on this expansion pack by believing all the hype. I usually play the skirmish games but yes, I have tried most of the scenarios already as well. While I am not saying that the scenarios are worthless or what-not, they just do not fit my style of play. Therefore the only thing of value to me is the additions to the skirmish game. I value the new leader traits, and the extra civs are also welcome. Apart from that, there is essentially nothing here. Thirty dollars for some new leader heads? Great Generals do not even work as advertised. On several games I have added them to my cities to be Great Instructors, supposedly to imbue extra experience points on all new units. However with a Barracks, a Great Instructor, as well as civic bonuses, all of my new units of every type created in that city appear with 2XP when they should get around 6XP upon creation. In other words, the Great Instructor is worthless.

To make matters even worse, the game manual fell apart at the seams.

The other great part about the warlords expansion, is that the expansions are just mods, which means
(a) Any good ideas can be "borrowed" by your favourite mod designer, and
(b) Anyone who wants can release a public map to go with the mod.

Alexander too easy? Wait for someone to create a new Alexander map with hidden information.

Like the Genghis scenario, but gameplay gets old knowing where all the civilizations are? Have someone create a new map...

Love the Chinese scenario, but want a bigger, richer map with a slower tech rate? Someone might mod that too.

The Chinese scenario in particular seems like it could be a rich source for new maps/mini-mods, since it has an entirely new tech tree that seems to offer a few different options for play...

Unfortunately the scenarios are nothing special either. I tried the viking one, it wasn't good. I tried the Kublai Khan one, I got bored. I tried the rome one and decided on the first turn it was going to be boring and quit.

I can't imagine how you could tell an entire game was going to be boring from one single turn.

Yeah, it's pretty unf.cking believable that they managed to make the rome scenario that crappy.

But they did
