The UN has passed just now the UN Resolution 1701 ... for a cease far, has passed. What do you think ...

Quick nutshell ...
Israel withdraws but can defend itself.
Lebanon and UN mans South Lebanon (15,000 Lebanese troops and 15,000 U.N. peacekeepers are to deploy in south Lebanon as part of the truce deal, and keep Hezbollah guerrillas away from Israel.)
Hezbollah is disarmed.

More tidbits ...
U.N. force to monitor a full cessation of hostilities and help Lebanese forces gain full control over an area that has previously been under de facto control of Hezbollah militias.

A senior U.S. official in Washington, speaking on condition of anonymity, said the U.S. and France envision a 10-day time frame between the moment a halt to the hostilities is declared and when UNIFIL troops go into action in the south.
 
Unless it calls for the Jews to be removed and Israel destoyed its nothing more then a chance for Israels enamies to rearm.

If it leaves Israel in Lebannon peace won't last an hour. If Hezbollah has to disarm, they wont, but they may respect a ceasefire, at least for now, if Israel leaves.

Lebanon: Army obliged to exercise complete control of entire country and esp. said region, with said UN force.

Except the immidete disarmament of hizballah, seems like Israel gotten all it wanted.
I'm a hopeless optimist, I think this will last, of course I thgout the same when we withdrew in 2000.

Bolded my me. That's the important things. It shows that 1) the UN is not entirely lost
2) the US and Europe can actually agree on something
3)I doubt Hezzbolla will try anything with UN boys there, so some stability may come to pass, and peace might break out for once.

I noticed that this says nothing about Palestine. Nothing about Palestine in the news, either, only Lebanon. Did I miss something?
 
This resolution most likely isn't worth the paper it's printed on. One can hope, though.

No Gaza is not addressed in this Res. that is a entirely different conflict.

Agreed. It seems it was France and USA who got it fixed. However:

a) timetable is still unclear and
b) humanitarian situation of people in that region is still grave.

I'm more worried about Hezzbolla breaking this one; or furthermore, Hezbolla provoking Israel into another war and making Israel seem like the bad guy by touting around and hiding behind 1701 (not Big E, either *cough* MobBoss *cough*) once it responds again. Given the pattern of people like this, that seem like just the thing they'll do.

There are thousands of refugees over there, we need to find something to do with them soon.
