The History of Team Smurkz

I believe Niklas put it best, when the newly born Team Smurkz waited in earnest for the beginnings of SGOTM9…

"It's a really nice name you know, and few people truly know the history behind the Smurkz. Everyone's heard of those blueish do-gooder smurfs, but the history behind the saga is not quite so pretty. The Smurkz, as they were really called, were actually more of a greenish hue, and quite a bit nastier than how they have been portrayed in the stories. Their endless fights with the wannabe-wizard Gandhi who dreamt of going to the stars (or Gargamel as he was called in the stories) were actually really gruesome with lots of bloodshed on both sides. In the end they tricked him into building a space ship, which they then hi-jacked and went to space themselves... " –Niklas

The term Smurkz was decided upon at the end of SGOTM8 after our esteemed former Captain Durkz dropped out of the game. Wishing to switch our name, but maintain the familiarity and reputation we had earned under the name Durkz, WarDance proposed the name Smurkz. From then on, the little green guys couldn’t be stopped!

First, let’s start with the game where many believe the Smurkz were born, SGOTM8 Team Durkz. Though the team was known under its then Captain Durkz he unfortunately made his last post on August 24th, 2005 and departed from the game. Many of us believe this is when Smurkz truly began to form.

SGOTM12 (9Feb07 - ???)
Seafaring and Scientific Theodora finds herself in a world with 30 other civilizations. She and her Dromons are on a mission to bring civilized diplomacy to the masses ... whether they like it or not. The winners of this game will be the succession team that reaches a Diplomatic Victory by the earliest game date. All victory conditions are enabled, but only a UN vote in your favour will bring the laurels. Thanks once more to Gyathaar for the concept and map. -AlanH

"This first SGOTM will not feature any advanced variant.. the winner simply will be the team that wins the game at the earliest game date with either domination or a diplomatic victory. All victory conditions are still enabled though, with exception of Space Race, so you have to avoid getting another type of victory (and of course prevent the AIs from winning)." -Gythaar
