A new feature in 0.15e, which will probably go out later today, is the Adaptive trait. This trait has been given to Varn Gosam of the Malakim, Cassiel of the Grigori, Cardith Lorda of the Kuriotates and Jonas Endaine and Sheelba of the Clan of Embers. It replaced a trait they already have.

What does it do? The Adaptive trait allows you to pick a starting trait for your leader. Some of the special traits aren't allowed (liking summoner, agnostic and barbarian) but you have access to most of the mods traits.

This is the most conveinant for the civilizations with only one leaders, so now you can play that civilization with different traits. It is meant to demonstrate the more flexible nature of some fo the leaders.

So try it out and let me know what you think. If the feedback is positive we may allow Adaptive leaders to change traits a few times during the game.

We are also considering an "Insane" trait for Perpentach where he randomly picks 3 traits when the games start and he has a 1% chance per turn of randomly picking 3 new traits.

But one step at a time. Let me know what you think.

Doees the ai know enough not to choose the already known traits?

Also i really like the perpentach idea. Three traits should balance out the negative of not knowing what you'll get next.

Yeah, the AI always picks the leaders "default" trait (ie: the one I removed to make room for the Adaptive trait).

This sounds great, both the Adaptive trait, and the Insane trait.

"You have just become Organized. This may not last. Build your Command Posts Now !"

I really like this idea. Build your own leader is something I've wanted for ages. Also, I never really liked Cassiel's Industrious trait. Always too busy trying to raise my happy cap to build a lot of wonders.

Have you considered making the Charismatic trait from Warlords available? Perhaps not with the faster upgrades, but the +1happy/city would be nice.

Also, is there an anouncement of which trait has been chosen? I wouldn't want to guess.

The traits that were removed are in the changelog:

1. Fixed some of Arendel's diplomacy tags.
2. Added a Eurabatres pedia entry written by Wilboman.
3. It now costs 60 gold to upgrade a Warrior to a Drown.
4. Added the Adaptive trait.
5. Replaced Varn's Financial trait with the Adaptive trait.
7. Replaced Cardith's Philosophical trait with the Adaptive trait.
8. Replaced Cassiel's Industrious trait with the Adaptive trait.
9. Replaced Jonus's Expansive trait with the Adaptive trait.
10. Replaced Sheelba's Magic Resistant trait with the Adaptive trait.
11. Fixed the Tremor spell.
12. Removed the Tomb of Basium (when Basium dies the Mercurians lose their traits instead).

Wow. I have no idea what to think! Crazy man, crazy... only way to see is to play it for awhile ... something devious will occur to one of us eventualy. :groucho:

I don't really like the idea of Adaptive, but Insane sounds about right...

Can we have his diplomacy picture replaced with that of a warrior or a worker too? :P

 ... and probably a better-looking mug to look at. Basium didn't get where he is today through classic good looks.

I liked the concept, but I don't know if I really liked how it was handled.

My suggestion:
Adaptative as a meta-trait. A leader would be Financial and Creative (Adaptative). The first trait, financial, would be unchangeable, and the second could be changed during the paly. This change would take a few turns and in the end the leader would have a new trait. The change would be to any of the normal traits.
Pros: The current mechanic make the trait combination of other leaders less interisting and unique. My suggestion promotes the uniqueness of each trait combo, as the trait change causes a loss of tempo to the adaptive civilization. Another way to correct this would be limiting more the traits that can be chosen.

Plus, 'adaptation' implies change to circumstances. As the trait is implemented, it simply means you've got an optional trait to decide upon once and once only. The idea of an adaptive trait is nice, and it would be great if said leaders could actually adapt to their in-game circumstances (as bebematos suggests).

For example: you find that you have a source of stone near your capital, so you choose to change to the industrious trait to get super-fast stone wonders. Then, after finding you are surrounded by magic-wielding enemy empires, you make the change to magic resistant so that new units can stand a better chance in war.

- Niilo
