DownLoad the File from the File Database here
To install the mod download the file leonardo.zip (448KB), unzip, and add the folder Leonardo in your ../Warlord/Mod/ folder

The mod works well (in my testing).
It only contains modified .xml and .dss files.
Feedbacks are appreciated :)

:: Abuot Me
Spoiler :
I'm not a programmer. I'm not a modder (never modded before buying Civ IV). I try to make things work reading guides, experimenting and keeping track of what I did. Probably my work it is not done the most elegant way, but with me it works, so I like to give the opportunity to try it.

:: About my English
Spoiler :
I know it is not always correct, I'm sorry about that. It isn't my first language. I hope this is understandable anyway.

:: About Updates and Changes
Spoiler :
I'll notice about updates and changes of the mod files here.

The last update has been published(ddmmyy): 09.05.07.

Changes from previous version:
- Updated to Warlord patch 2.08

Game Balancing. Following the advice of some feedbacks I got, in this version I depowered the mod a little to balance the game:
- the traits of Leonardo changed (the Industrious trait changes in Creative, since the combo Philosophical and Industrious provided a huge advantage to the player).
- the UB effects changed to make it less powerful.
- it is now harder to get a Genius
- Note: I wish to get some feedback about those setting too! :-)

:: About the Civilization and Leader
Spoiler :
First of all, while Leonardo existed, this Civ never really did. It is not a fantasy mod, but not even a pure historical based mod. Take it as a "what if someone like Leonardo ruled a civ?".
- I made the leader coping the XML code from Gandhi and editing the Traits (I choosed Philosophical and Creative), the Favourite Civic (I choosed Free Speech), and the Flavours (I set Science 5 and Culture 2). I dropped down the CONTACT_RELIGION_PRESSURE from 500 to 250.
- As I wished it to be, this leader is best for Space or Cultural Victory. The traits (cheaper Librares, Universities and Theaters) and the UB/UU help a lot in both directions. The absence of military traits and of a strong military UU makes Domination or Conquests victories harder, but it can be a nice challenge.

:: About the Unique Unit
Spoiler :
Genius (Remplaces Great Engineer)
Since the UB is enhancing the regular building a lot, to balance things I made a UU that doesn't enhance the regular unit, but it only makes it more flexible. The Genius can act as a Great Engineer, Artist or Scientist, which means it can Hurry Production as a GE, build Scientist Academies and boost reserch as a GS, make Artist Great Works as a GA, or join the city as a Specialist of any of those three Great People. This UU can't be built (which is a penality compared to other UU) and only a Great Engineer becomes a Genius (Great Artist and Scientists are regular Great People).

:: About the Unique Building
Spoiler :
Unique Building: Leonardo's WorkShop (Remplaces Library)
Standard Library Bonuses:
- +25% Science Points
- can turn 2 citizens into Scientist
Extra Bonuses:
- +25% Great People Points
- can turn 1 citizen into Artist
- can turn 1 citizen into Engineer
The UB effect has been lowered (extra bonus were +3 Culture Points and 1 free Engineer). It still quite strong, but since in the early game is hard to put 4 specialists in a city, the bonus is comparable to the Roman Forum one, except that the building allows to chose the kind of specialist (Artist, Engineer or Scientist) turn the citizens into.

:: About Text and Translations
Spoiler :
I usually play English version (videogames are an excellent way to improve my English), but I tried to make the interface and the pedia work in Italian, English and French. The Pedia as lack of content but it is working. Sometimes I'll write down the this guy Background ;-)
Please notice that check the translations is the most boring part of the project, so since I did a lot of copy and past of word and sentences to translate them and I didn't check everything, it is probable that I missed translating something. If so, report it please.
If you play this mode letting the Ai play Leonardo's civilization, please check on the Diplomacy dialogues. They should work fine, but it is very hard to check all the situations. If the text is missing, please let me know in wich situation.

:: About .xml files
Spoiler :
I edited those .xml files in the ..\Mod\Leonardo\Assets\XML\ directory:

Art\CIV4ArtDefines_Building.xml
Art\CIV4ArtDefines_Civilization.xml
Art\CIV4ArtDefines_Leaderhead.xml
Art\CIV4ArtDefines_Unit.xml
(to specify the path of the graphics)

Buildings\CIV4BuildingInfos.xml
(to create the Unique Building)

Civilizations\CIV4CivilizationInfos.xml
Civilizations\CIV4LeaderHeadInfos.xml
(to create the Civ and the Leader)

GameInfo\CIV4DiplomacyInfos.xml
(to set the Diplomacy Dialogues when the Ai plays this civ)

Interface\CIV4ColorVals.xml
Interface\CIV4PlayerColorInfos.xml
(to set the civ and text color)

Text\CIV4GameText_Warlord_Leonardo.xml
(to add the text for this civ)

Units\CIV4UnitInfos.xml
(to create the Unique Unit)

:: About Graphics

Spoiler :
I created by myself the .dss graphics of the flag, the leaderhead, and all the buttons editing Leonardo drows from some .jpg files.
I added those .dss files in the ..\Mod\Leonardo\Assets\Art\

Note that _all_ those files are in that directory _without subdirectories_ since it was easier for me to change the path in the .xml files than remember where every image-file goes (just leave them all there to see them playing the game).

I created the Unique Unit coping the standard Great Prophet graphic files and editing:
greatprophet.dds
greatprophet_128.dds
(edited in photoshop to reskin the UU balancing the color)
greatprophet_glow.dds
(painted in black the skin and the Alpha Channel to make the "glow" disappear - this was just a guess, but it actually worked well! -)

I added all those UU graphic files are in the folder ..\Mod\Leonardo\Art\Genius\

The non .dds graphic files still the ones of the original game.

:: About Feedbacks
Spoiler :
If you download the mod and feel like give me an opinion or an advice about it or tell me what's wrong (I guess some English word spelling and some sentences are for sure :)) and/or missing, use this thread. Thanks.

Special Thanks to:
- Charcoal, Jecrell and BrentRitchie for their Mod Guides.
- Heroes182 and JPeriod for helping finding new concepts while creating the vanilla mod.

What's _possibly_ going to be included in the next update:

:: Text and Translations
Spoiler :
Add a detailed Background of Leonardo in the Pedia.

Full checked English, Italian and French translations.

A Spanish and/or German translation.

:: Graphic
Spoiler :
A Unique look to the UB, I'm trying to figure out how to reskin the library.

Leonardo's Leaderhead out of reskinning someone else one (as soon as I fugure out how this can be done ;-) ).

:: Wanna Help?

Spoiler :
Note: this is not a help request post. What I published works already well enough. I play it and it is fun to me. I'm not asking (here. In other thread, maybe ;-) )...

Anyway. If someone has really nothing better to do ;-) than work on this project to improve it, or want to explain me how to do things work better, well he/she's welcome. It is truly appreciated.

Philosophical + Industrious = Unplayable. I'm sorry. It is just too 1337.

umh... I archieve a cultural victory at Emperor Level. No reloads... :)
By the way, what "too 1337" means?

'1337' is nerd script for 'leet', which is nerd slang for 'elite'.

The combination of Industrious and Philosphical is not used in the game because it provides a huge advantage to the player. That's what the poster was referring to.

It's a cool idea, and for the record, your English is quite good.

Thanks for explaining (1337=elite?!? Umh... I think neither Leonardo could guess that :) whitout knowing it). And I agree. As I said it is not historical, and not something to add to the main game. Just an option for a different game once in a while.

Happy to ear that! Because in other post almost everybody dislikes Industrious, Creative and sometimes also Philo, which are my 3 fovourite traits. I was feeling like I was missing something! Phi+Ind is unbalanced? What about Ind+Cre? Phi+Cre?

It's a cool idea, and for the record, your English is quite good.

Thanks. Happy to know that you people understand my english. :)

The mod has been updated. The Genius UU hs now his own look, check the first post for a prewiew. The file can be downloaded here.

Have you played Rise of Legends? That game has a whole Vinci civilization.

Is that a Civ Iv mod? If so, where to download?

...and I was guessing I made something original :( ;)

never mind. I found it with search engine.

EDIT - Look too much lie Age of Empires, too quick. No time to think. What I like of Civ Games is the time you get while playing to make a decision, and the time you have while playing to blame yourself later.

Whoa, very interesting. Although this civilization is has extreme potential, perhaps unbalanced, but it looks like fun. I might give it try, good work.

Yes, you're right. The Unique Building is too strong. I'm working on the 2.08 patch version (which will include new leaders), it is going to be rebalanced (+1 GPP istead of +1 specialist; +10% culture istead of +3 culture).
Note: This time I toke as model the Chinese Pavillon: +25% culture; the new version of my UB: +10% culture (bonus 15% less than the Chinese UB, that I will remplace with +1 GPP(Engineer) x turn). I hope it is more balanced now.

Thanks for the "good job"! :)

Looks interesting. I'm going to try it out. If it's a bit over poweredI'll just play one level up, but with 2.08 it should be about right.

sorry guys. Sometimes my english isn't good enough to understand what people wants to say. Happy you are LOL, it means you're having good time! :) I understand that I'm missing something, I just hope I don't look too much like Ralph Winchester.

By the way, Ind/Phi is overpowered everybody is saying, I'll change it to Cre/Phi in the WL 2.08 version which I'm (slowly) working on. And I will win culturally Emperor level anyway :p

I just updated the file with the Warlord 2.08 patch version.
Download Link to the File Database in the First Post of this Thread.
I balanced the Mod changing the traits (Phi + Cre now) of the Leader and the effect of the UU (now +25% GPP / allows to turn 1 citizen in GA and 1 in GE). Hope for some feedback.
Enjoy! :)
