EDIT: settings finalized

Game: Warlords required
Map Type: Pangaea
Starting Era: Ancient
Speed: Epic
Difficulty: Prince
Leader: Churchill (CHM/PRO)
Special options: Raging Barbs, Aggressive AI, No Vassal States
Victory conditions: All on, but we hope to win by Domination or Conquest
World wrap: default for map

"first strike" variant rules:
1. We will pick a protective leader (Churchill in this game)
2. The only land armies allowed to be built are archery and gunpowder units.
(Exceptions: siege units such as catapult; also warrior may be built before Archery is researched. Warrior may only be upgraded to a gunpowder unit.) (Note: Horse Archer is NOT an archery unit.)
3. If a first strike promotion is available, ALWAYS choose the first strike promotions first; if not, can pick any promotion under the sun. We do not have to promote units immediately.

Start save/initial turns will be posted when settings are agreed upon.

Roster:
1. RKai
2. Furrie
3. (open)
4. (open)
5. (open)

Alternate:
1. Codeman

Turns:
40-30-20-20-20 / 15 until 0AD / 10 until end

Starting strategy: Worker-Settler chop

Consider this a sign-up :).
I do like the variant, and Churchill looks the most logic choice (Those Redcoats will come in Handy)
Another possibility is one of the Chinese Leaders, but it might be a bit easy with those Cho-ko-nu's.
We can build Siege, which helps a lot in warfare, so if everyboy is comfortable with Prince, I think we should play Prince.

For the start of the game, I think Archery is a must, and some hard expansion (even with the bars, we just need to, we might be able to pull off an Archer rush and get an AI backwards or even eliminated.

Hi Furrie! Roster edited. You are in!

That's one vote for Prince and two votes for Churchill. :D How about map type?

Archer rush? (I assume we're going with the worker-settler first) We probably need twice as many archers as the neighbor has archers in a city, far more if they have axemen. I've done it with Mali skirmishers before but with plain 3-power archers with 1 or 2 first strike? Hmmm... we'll see.

See you in the game once we have 2 or 3 more people... and we decide on map type!

I'd prefer a Pangea maptype, mainly because i'm a very poor player on water maps.
The archer tush is just an idea, besides, with the Raging barbarians we might need to focus on defense more in the start.
the standard worker -> settler sounds fine to me, we just need to keep those barbs in control.
The advantage of the barbarians is that we get a lot of "free" promotions, which will aid us in our attacks.

Keep barbs in control = Great Wall?
Maybe we can attack early if we have the GW. Otherwise we will have to tech up to Feudalism and Construction...

Now all we have to do is wait for the roster to fill.

Great Wall does have a drawback though: since no barbs enter territory, that's less free kills... but we can always fortify archers on hills or forests "outside"

Anyone else wish to join the game, by any chance? I'll start my turns when total 4 people are in, but we'll accept up to 5.

Ok I started the game and played the first turn. Hope it will be more interesting for potential lurkers and joiners heh heh.
Save and screenies were corrupted due to crash, so I hope you don't mind I reloaded the starting autosave and redid the first turn

Spoiler Starting details and screens :
Settle on the the shore it might be a :smoke: move but we can always redo. Nice start with 2 food resources plus 1 calendar and 1 ivory resource for the second city. Warrior picks up Hunting from a hut. OMG the game is psychic! It actually knows we're going for Archery!

And I've always wondered why imageshack was not invented earlier.

We got a good spot.
About the tech path I suggest BW -> AH -> Archery
We seem to have some desert to the North, so expanding looks the best Eastward.

Ahhh looks like it will be a 2-player game for a while... like "RB01 cuban isolationists"... :(

I'll start later (in 12 hours) if no one else's coming in.

Yeah, we need more people!

***we now pause for a commercial break***
Reader, if you're reading this, Uncle Grandpa Churchill wants YOU!

If we write like Sirian and Sullla maybe we can make this interesting
Still at work, so gimme 8 hours to start... unless you want to take the first 40 turns now using the start save (and I'll take the second turn later), by all means go for it.

I'll let you do the opening turns, It's your game so you get the honors to open the game.
btw, I think Churchill would better be refered to as Grandpa Churchill ;).

(Well I Had so much time on my hands, so...)

This is the story of the English people. Or at least the 33% of the brits who are addicted to launching sharp long pointy sticks; the same 33% who run on treadmills during their spare time so they can launch those sharp long pointy sticks faster. Or at least that's what they'll be in the future.

The time is 4,000 BC and the English have settled in London, a peaceful city on the shoreline of a huge continent. How long will the peace last? A long time, I hope.

Fufufu...

Turn 1 (4000BC)
See start of turns above.
We now know: Fishing, Hunting, Mining

Turn 2 (3970BC)
As the spirit of a future ruler suggested, the warriors head south west to explore that direction.

Turn 5 (3880BC)
English warriors make contact with villagers, who graciously teach them how to arrange stones for the entertainment of the populace. The English people somehow think that it will help them get closer to the divine... WHAT?
Mysticism GET!

RK1-0.jpg

Turn 7 (3790BC)

Scouts who represent Brennus of the Celts (played by Chuck Norris) emerge from a thin land bridge on the west side. If that's a peninsula where he's coming from, he will be trapped bad, soon.

RK1-1_-_brennus.jpg

Finally, after long years of twiddling thumbs, London's citizens assimilate a group of villagers (a.k.a. IBT: pop a hut via cultural expansion) into their city. These strange people seem to know how to get milk from cows...
Animal Husbandry GET! (OH MY GOD SO LUCKY!)

RK1-2.JPG

Turn 8 (3760BC)
After exploring a bit further along the land bridge, English warriors see orange lines on the ground - a primitive Celtic way to mark their borders. Is that their capital already?

RK1-3.JPG

Turn 10 (3670BC)
Some more scouts, appear from the northwest. The scouts claim to be members of the popular comedy group called "Monty Python" and a certain Montezuma seems to be their lead actor...

RK1-4.JPG

Turn 13 (3550BC)
Some nomads speak of a revolutionary new exercise program invented somewhere out there (they forgot where, the losers). Soon, workout tapes of "Buddhism" seem to be available from traveling merchants but our people aren't buying them.

Turn 15
IBT: Warriors in the jungle meet up with some lions who think that human meat is a 100% fat-free source of protein. Wrong. Warriors instead have lion stew for dinner. They are forced to stay put because they have gone fat from eating lion meat and can't fight properly. (down to 1.2/2 life)

Turn 17
Bronze Working has been discovered by London citizens, allowing them to spot some brown metal residue near their city, metals they used to pay no attention to thinking they were trash.
Copper spotted near London! (OH MY GOD SO VERY LUCKY!)
Satisfied, Londoners decide to pursue their love of pointy sticks. (Archery)

IBT: Because of the fat they gained from lions, the warriors could not fight the bears that snuck up behind them. Snuck up? You imbeciles! Bears aren't supposed to be sneaky!

Turn 19
After much prodding, some citizens have agreed to become workers, and have left the city to gather firewood.
To avenge the warriors who died to a bear ambush, some citizens are now training to become warriors. In addition, the citizens have uh, been "convinced" to adopt new "labor laws". (revolt to slavery)

RK1-6.JPG

Turn 24
Workers are through gathering firewood from pine trees north of London. Angered by this outrage, the pine trees magically disappeared!

Turn 25 (3130BC)
Thanks to their high-firewood diet, the group of warriors finish training faster.
They move up to guard the workers who move on to a new set of trees to "gather firewood" from.
London now decides to being prodding some of their citizens to move to the "promised land". (Settler)

Turn 27 (3100BC)
Sharp pointy objects (Archery) have been invented, allowing the English to fulfill their addiction. Sick and tired of walking barefoot in mud, citizens ask to step on stones instead! (The Wheel being researched)
Meanwhile, workers continue to gather firewood.

RK1-8.JPG

Turn 30 (3010BC)
Hinduism (a new diet program) is invented somewhere in the world. It immediately promises to be better than the "heathen" Buddhism exercise program. Is it true? Who knows... time will tell.
What!? Brennus invented Hinduism? Now that we know that, maybe it's time to consider taking their corporate headquarters.

Turn 31
Workers finish "chopping" trees for firewood. Forest magically disappears again! There is one more forest west of town, so they're heading there now!

Turn 33
A group of warriors meet up with our warriors and show a picture of a guy with eyeglasses named Roosevelt. He looks great in a tie... veeeerrry suspicious. Looks like a used car salesman.

RK1-10_-_roose.JPG

Turn 39
IBT: Don't those warriors ever learn? Lion meat makes you fat! Warriors have been reduced to 30% strength (0.6/2) due to fat. Now they have to stay in the same tile and exercise for a while.
IBT: For some reason, our workers who spent their lives chopping firewood now know how to build roads. Soon they will magically learn to build houses.
The Wheel -> Pottery
Workers magically vanish another forest near London due to their massive firewood-gathering campaign. No more forests near London? Bored to death, they decide to build a fence around the cows.

Turn 40
THE END... to be continued?

Well, you don't have to type something like this. :) I was just bored to death and with nothing to do I just wasted my time hard.

THE SAVE: http://forums.civfanatics.com/uploads/73311/RK-01_BC-2710.CivWarlordsSave

We now return you to our scheuled Dotmap™:
RK1-11_-_dotmaps.jpg

We'll likely be settling on the green dot soon for hooking up the stone (after researching Masonry) soon so we can start on the Great Wall.

We can settle on the blue or yellow dot next to box out Chuck Brennus, a prime target so we can take his Hindu holy city.

EDIT: Don't pay attention to the white dot. It won't work

*We still have empty slots in the roster, so if you wanna join, post up! "Grandpa Churchill wants YOU!"™

lurker's comment:
i would enjoy playing, but with some recent events at work and playing in the SGOTM, my time is limited. i will lurk have this one.

I've got the save, i'm going to the shop first and then i'll play, good turnsset you played, seems like Brennus might have a problem.
Just wondering, are horse archers considered archers or mounted?
And welcome Codeman, happy lurking :D.

I've played my 30 turns, they were rather uneventful, so my log will be rather short.

Preflight: All is well in the Empire of Grandpa Churchill.
T3:We meet the fearsome Ghengis Khan!
A lion keeps being a real ass and blocks our settler from buidling on our prefered spot, I need to use the Warrior to kill the Lion, then settle York
T9:We settle York, there is much rejoice.
T13:Pottery comes in, we can now make pots I presume?
It's always nice to learn to write a letter to grandpa Churchill so I set research to writing.
London builds an Archer -> strats barracks.
T15:York and London are connected, watch out for highway robbers ;).
T29:Ivory Connected, there is much rejoice :king:
T30:Barbs enter our lands, luckily London has an archer, York isn't looking so good yet.

Some pointers, move the worker in York or he will get killed by the barb warrior.
After the barracks in London try getting a settler out and settle Yellow Dot, I think the most East one is the best as it will grab the cows.
We're looking good for the rest, we are number 1 in score and we have 3rd largest military.
Research wise I think we should be aiming for Catapults, Cats + Archers make a great duo for taking cities and keeping them.

lurker's comment: with raging barbs i would suggest some fog busters to the NW.

Indeed, but it have to be Archers, no problem is we put them on some hills.
But i'd mainly like to box in Brennus with that city on yellow dot.
