Interestingly, i found out that when entering Classical Age, Barbarians already had axemen and they were Technologically more advanced than me!
The Barbaric Axemen appeared right after entering Classical Age and I did not have any good units at that momment so they razed my second important city!! How could that be possible? I don't even have enough time to build Longbowmen to defend the cities... Very funny. :)

Clearly, you were losing the tech race at this point. Compare with your rivals.

 So sorry to laugh at your misfortune, but seriously, when the wild men who live in caves and declare war on all civilization are more advanced than you, it's time to re-prioritize you scientific endeavours!

heehee! :D

Actually i was the first to enter Classical Age before my neighbors. BUT.... Others in the dark part of the map or on other continents might be more advanced which caused barbarians on same continent (my continent) to be too advanced than me and than my neighbors.

Just imagined on how unfair it is, when i just entered Classical Age, 2 barbarian axemen poped up inside my border and i had 7 turns to build my longbowmen and they would never make it to defend my important second city with my 2 archers! My city was eventually being swallowed by 2 barbarians for nonesense... I don't think it is fair.....

first: Barbarians should not popup within your cultural borders
second: Archer loosing to axeman is bad luck, unless you play very high difficulty ;)

If you were able to build longbows at that point, why not upgrade your existing archers? It costs like 85G per unit. Just a thought.

No money...

The 2 barbarians axemen poped up close to the border when i just entered Classical Age. Nobody on my continent got an axeman. I was the first one to enter Classical Age and it was unfair that the barbarians were more advanced than me. Another thing, i was in Noble difficulty level.

Wait, you entered the Classical Age without researching Bronze Working?

Sorry, forgot to mention that i actually got Feudalism which perhaps enabled longbowman for free by making the Oracle. I don't have Bronze Working but i was currently researching it.

Feudalism is a Medieval Tech, isn't it? It's certainly a lot further down the tree than Bronze Working. This implies to me that you spent a lot of research on religious/cultural/scientific techs in lieu of military ones. You can't be surprised by advanced enemies if you skip the most basic of military technologies.

aerrmmm... yes, i think you're right on this one...

Sorry buddy, but you made an almost identical mistake to me. MP game, just built the Oracle, and what tech did I choose? Writing!!! Lot of bloody good it did me given that I had yet to learn archery!!! Boy did I regret that when the axemen came knocking at my doors, and all I had to repel them was warriors :mischief: . Live and learn, though. Next game I played I had half a dozen skirmishers before the first axemen showed up, and I am STILL going strong!

Aussie I'm just curious about your rational in choosing writing from the oracle, it not the most expensive tech going?:)

Hey, who said it was a RATIONAL decision Robi?
It was dumb, and I know it ;).

As long as you learned from it:).

i think the normal tech to get from oracle is metal cast , then u get the forge - and the colossus.
