I have this idea rolling around in my head for some time now. I'll post it and see if there are interests.

Settings

Version: Warlord
Difficulty: Monarch
Map: Pangea
Civ: TBD
Speed: Epic
Victory: All enabled, but must win by domination/conquest

The Variant

(1) All other civ must capitulate to us before the domination/conquest win
(2) We cannot wipe out a civ

The Roster
berserks01
Bede
frankcor
DevilJin
GrayFox

I'll try it.

Roosevelt or Stalin as the leader (for flavor if nothing else). Epic speed and Monarch preferred.

I'm tied up with 3 SG's, so this is not a join...
If you vassalize everyone, won't it be a conquest victory?

Sign me up for this one. The variant is an interesting twist. I'd think we'll go broke with all those vassals.

I'd prefer Monarch, mainly because I've yet to win a Monarch game on my own and want to get better.

Dunno ... I'll change the victory type to conquest/dom since I'm not sure what happens when they all capitulate to you.

Alright, we have 5 players. I believe this is a full roster. I'll roll the start in a bit.

Ok, I rolled the start. Wanted to get some suggestions before starting.
I suggest moving 1SE. We'd loose 1 floodplain, but we'd get the gold. Getting that gold in our border would help alot with science. I can scout E and then N or straight onto the gold hill to see what's out there.

What'd y'all think?

I suggest moving scout 1E -> 1NE to see what is north of he gold mine.

I don't recognize what's our flag ... which civ are we? Start with hunting ... that means the gold mine wouldn't come into play until we research mining. Hmm ... its rare to see only one resource in the initial screen.

Lurker's comment: You always have a food resource in your fat cross if you settle in place. Haven't tested it, but I believe all food resources that come with AH (except horses) and agriculture are the ones that appear. I'm lurking. ;)

Scout to the gold hill and either settle in place or 1S on the desert. TIem enough to exploit the gold in a second city. Keeping the floodplains will do more for both early research and growth than a desert gold hill.

We are Stalin of Russia (Agressive, Industrious). We start with Mining and Hunting.

Turn 0 - Scouted 1E and 1NE. No resources visible in our BFC at all. Decided to settle in place, and pigs are visible in our fat cross. Start researching AH.
Turn 2 - Hut gave us Agriculture.
Turn 9 - Scout kills attacking wolve.
Turn 11 - Scout kills attacking lion. Promote him to Woodsman 1, and set to heal in 3.
Turn 12 - Moscow finishes warrior, starts another. Want it to grow before worker build.
Turn 15 - Huts gave scout experience, promote him to Woodsman 2.
Turn 16 - Meet Montezuma.
Turn 17 - Meet Kublai. Our scout dies to a lion while fortified on a hill. sigh.
Turn 18 - AH comes in, start Wheel. Horses appears right outside our BFC.

I played 20 turns. Let's do 20 turns each first round, then 10 turns there after.

Is not quite as bad as it looks, lots of food, some pigs, trees, hills etc.

Got it and see what I can make of it.

Sent the warrior north to explore and bust fog and started training a worker with the citizens on the floodplains for the food and research booster.

Met this fellow coming at us from the southwest with a warrior and an archer

Monte gets religion

The wandering warrior uncovers this in the north

then survives

to head south by east again to provide coverage for the worker at the Piggery and the settler that should be the next item on the agenda once the capitol grows to three

The northlands hold great promise and the next city should be up there somewhere, perhaps the bend in the river at the very top of the picture

I suggest we build northwards toward those dyes while researching Mysticism (for Monuments), Bronze, then Iron, then Writing, then on to Calendar. Those indigo fields will be very strong commercially and will feed themselves. Even better than a gold mine in the desert.

From the screenshot the gold looks like plains for me. I would consider settling 4S of Moscow for a commerce city, expanding to the north and the elephants should be priority of course

I concur -- get a settler out now and build north.

I like the site 3 tiles SE of Moscow more than the one 4 tiles south. It can work the Gold and the Silk. I'd wait to see where Bronze shows up before settling city 3, though.
