GETAI CIV

WARLORDS COMPATIBLE ONLY NOW ALSO FOR BtS

on-a-tarabostes, we are your people. Yet we are divided.

The Marisus flows through our country into the Great Donaris, the river of the Argonauts. The language of the Daci is the same as that of the Getai. Among the Hellenes, however,we are better known because the migrations we make are continuous, and because we are intermingled with the Thraikes and Mysoi (Mysians). And also the tribe of the Triballoi, likewise our brothers, have admitted migrations into this country, because the neighbouring peoples force them to emigrate into the country of those who are weaker; that is, the Skythai, Bastarnai and Sauromatai on the far side of the river often raid our settlements. They will be tamed--by the wolf we swear. The king of Epeiros plots from the Haimos to humiliate our ancestors. He is dangerous from the length of his sarissa spears. The gorges shall not fall and nor shall we. Skythia borders our land as far as the source of the river Ister and the expanse of the Morsian Swamp. Their lands stretch as far as the eye can see. Their warriors fight valiantly on horseback, fleeing like the wind when threatened. They should be struck with Gebeleizis's thunder while they fight their cousins, the Sauromatai. Where the sun sets lie the Boioi and Tauriskoi. Should these new tribes look for war and raid our sanctuaries they will die from the scythed blades of Heros. We and our wild Skythian kin allowed the Hellens to build towns like Olbia and Chersonesos so we could profit from their trade. They know to fear us, even as they call us "barbaroi". We can learn from these arrogant "polis dwellers" but can they learn from us?

Their world ends at the mouth of the Donaris and from there, their end will come, shall their strategos defy us. We are immortal, as Zalmoxis promised. He is our prophet and your master. Should your men fall ill our healers will heal them for you. Should you lack wealth, the mountains will flow with gold from our mines. They are the key to your independence. Protect them as the "civilized men" try to steal them.

Fight them in the Desert of the Getai. There Dareios the son of Hystaspes was crushed by a handful of Thraikes and Skythai. He turned back. Later on, Lysimachos, a Thraikian lapdog of Megas Alexandros, in his expedition against our late King Dromichaites, was captured alive; but he again came off safely, because he found the "barbaroi" kind-hearted. Now Makedonia uses our brothers for thieir armies. As I said before, Herodotos was right. Triballoi from the south and Tylis are pathetic raiders and opportunistic dogs. We harvest our wheat; they steal it from wealthier lands. We protect our children; they sell them as slaves. We're free in our lands; they're puppets to the successor of Alexandros. Their tarabostes foolishly fight each other rather than uniting for all komatai. Kogaionon, our holiest of sanctuaries has received so many messengers that the godly gates are sealed. We must be worthy of our gods before we ask for their help. Choosing a new high priest and impaling some rebels should please them. Be that as it may, our people once attained very great power, so that we could actually send forth an expedition of two hundred thousand men. Now we find ourselves reduced to as few as forty thousand, spread through twenty or so tribes.

To rule us you must unite the tribes of the Karpathoi. Treat your pilleati as equals or they'll stab you with the cold knife of traitors. Give them false dreams of glory and plunder so you may gain them as subjects. Should you manage to unite all davas under your dracones, the world will tremble under your might. You may need to burn the wines. They flow with poison for the manliest virtues.

[BtS Modular] Getai

Special thanks to all those that helped me with this Mod. The Lopez for his awesome Falxman unit, Shqype, WYZ_sub10, and Laurino for their help solving some of my UB problems. And thanks again to WYZ_sub10 for his fantastic civ flag.

Known issues:
The only major issue so far that I have found is that the UB doesnt show up properly in game. I am still try to fix this problem but Im not sure how to just yet. When its fixed I will release a new version.

I hope you all enjoy! As always all comments welcome!:goodjob:

UPDATE: Now updated for BtS modular format.
To run any of my modular files, you need to go into your BtS config file (My Docs/My Games/Beyond the Sword/Civ4Config.ini IIRC), and change
ModularLoading = 0
to
ModularLoading = 1
then install the file into your Beyond the Sword mods directory. The file is set up to run immediately so you dont need to create any folders. Then start up your game, go to advanced, then load a mod and select your mod. And it should work.

Awesome civ Aranor. Wouldnt the problem with the building be in the city plot system tag.

noice, i'll download it immediatley, although the UU seems 1337 to me..

Nice work Aranor, could I use this in my First Peoples Mod?

All of it looks quite professionally done, however I'd like a civlopedia entry that's a little more brief.

Great work!

lol thanks. If you dont like long civilopedia entries you should see my next civ. The lack of information about its leader left a huge amount of empty space in the civilopedia

Looks nice, you should consider making a Modual out of them with my new XML loading mod. I can assist if nessary.

Also UU is a freaking powerhouse, 6 base strength with +75% vs Melle. That hits another melle unit with a 10.5 :eek: which will let him stand almost toe to toe with a MaceMan. With its base strength it will go through fortified archers like a knife through butter. At the very least you need to raise cost to 45. and personaly I think something like a regular Ax with imune to first strikes and +1 First Strikes would be better.

I realize the Falxman is a powerhouse but consider the fact that during the Roman invasion of Getai lands the Falxman was instumental in defeating the Roman legions and forcing their withdrawl from their territory. It was also the falx that forced the Romans to change their armor from the lorica hamata armor to the lorica segmenta to counter the sheer power of the falx to cut off limbs with ease. These guys were line breakers not used for holding the line but used when you needed to beak the enemies line and cause a general rout, for this reason i gave them the bonuses they have.

ps: how do you mean modual?

Historicaly correct, but it no way counters the fact that its unbalanced and needs a sever beating with the nerf bat. If your not happy with anything less then decicivly defeating Roman Pretorians then it will need to be a MaceMan replacement with a bump to 8 power or Swordsman replacement with some of the Mele bonus droped to 25%. Being able to crush what is arguably the best UU in the game with a unit avalible earlier and costing less is just too good.

Moduals referes to my new mod which allows the DLL to load more then one xml file for most classes of data. With it a whole game element such as a unit, building or even whole Civ can be packaged into a folder which can then be loaded by the game. The end user only needs to drag and drop the folder and run Civ. Check out my main thread with more info, templates and examples to get you started, in particular notice the Aborigine Civ (curtosy of Civ Gold 3) modual I have modularized.

Link is now in my Sig

Ok ok I see your point. If I drop the melee bonus back to 50% and leave the strength as is and then... ahh let me think on it Im pretty sure i can come up wit somthing :mischief:

ok so I think i have fixed the UU it now has what is mentioned above plus 1-2 first strikes. This means it still plows through swordsmen and preatorians but has trouble with axemen and macemen just cream it. Hope that better for you Impaler.

Ok so the new file has been uploaded. Also included in this new version is the fix for the Ub so that it now appears on the map in your city when built.:D Hope everyone enjoys. see the first post for the download link.
