Commander in Chief
*In charge of :strength:, including troop movements and drafting new troops.
*In charge of battle and invasion plans
*Second back-up turn player.

Military Positions open:
Deputyship
As deputy you will be responsible for posting military orders in case I'm absent. You will also be the second back-up player as I don't have [c3c] and [ptw]. You can also help with making battle plans and other military plans.

Armory:
We don't have any unit yet.

Long term military plan
Survive until we can get a techlead to Military Tradition, and then we'll try crush everyone with Sipaphi.
Control the seas to defend ourselves from any possible threat from other continents.

To achieve this I think we'll need to locate and obtain Iron and Horses to make sure we can build horsemen and spearmen. Later on we'll need to get saltpeter for Sipaphi off course.

I have a suspicion we will be able to get horses + saltpeter for our Sipahi since it's a custom map.. but we'll have to work for it somehow. o.O

I don't know how resources were last game, can anyone from the last game tell us about this?

As far as I remember we were under no duress for resources, although didn't MIA have one situation where they just barely got saltpeter through a lucky devision of territory in a peace treaty?

Here is last game's map. Saltpeter was the only strategic resource that was at all difficult to get, and luxuries were abundant. However, I think a few people mentioned that they would prefer resources to be rarer this game, so I wouldn't be surprised if they are.

Thanx for the maps, Chamnix. It's good to see what last game entailed.

I think I would have been dissappointed in last game's map. It looks pretty small. Just kill the people on your island and then cross the water to take on the others. Way too much coal and too little saltpeter. I don't know, I guess saltpeter should be hard to find in any game. That search normally frustrates me.

Here's a normal game for me. I play Monarch on a huge Pangaea. In this one, had I not taken out the Iros with horsemen (with a few Swords and archers), I never would have gotten any saltpeter when I needed it.

And I should probbly mention that I change the rules for my games. Like the GA is 25 turns, not 20. Some of the Great Wonder experation dates are extended, and AI agression (like the Zulus and the Germans) have been toned down.

I think that multi-player games should be smaller anyway, as there are only 5 teams, the map shouldn't be too big.
Last games map was very equal for all teams though.

You're probably right dutchfire. I've only played in one (a long time ago). But I became bored and wandered off. Our continent was too small and a couple of opposing teams had a far larger one to develop on. Guess who won.
:(

That's why this map will be playtested.
According to Rik, the map is ready, so everyone should prepare for the game to start within a few days :D

I would not consider last game's map small at all. It was "small" by Firaxis' definition, but a Firaxis small is designed for 6 players. We only had 4 teams, and it was less than 60% water , so there was a lot of land per team - MIA reached 4 turn research midway through the Middle Ages without even taking any land from anyone else.

:D Ok! I believe you. I was just saying it was very different from what I normally play. Oh and I normally play with 8 tribes, not 5. But I wanted to research this MTDG. I mistakenly chose China instead of Korea (forgot). I really am looking forward to a well rounded game.

I think dutchfire should be in charge of naming military units. (And I think the discussion should be held in his thread).

I'll throw my suggestion into the mix: TV characters from various shows.

For example (please excuse my trekkiness):
-Picard
-Riker
-Tuvok

I wouldn't say TV only, movies should be okay too.
And let's mix it up a little bit more, taking the most famous character from a lot of series/movies first. I'd like to have a James Bond for example :p

I was thinking a different TV series could be used for each base unit.

For example:
*Warrior/Swords/MDI - James Bond (and other spies - Austin Powers?)
*Spears/Pikes - Sitcom stars - Homer Simpson, Jerry Seinfeld (since they will be used for defensive purposes, they could be considered entertainment during peace time)
*Horsemen/Knights - Star Trek

I would prefer to see him head south - based on what gbno1fan has been saying, that warrior is likely to be our only explorer before our first settler. Our first city is much more likely to be south of the capital - too much jungle to the north, and the river doesn't go to the west.

:agree:

I would like him to go to the hill to the southwest, then follow the river southeast.

Actually, I think I would prefer south then south :). It looks like the river may be turning into a delta there, and I'd really like to see if there is coast there or not. If we go to the hill, then go south then east (for example - I know you didn't say that exactly), then we end up exactly where we would have been going south then south only 2 turns later. I don't think the view from that hill is likely to be very good - it has a forest to the northwest and appears to have hills to the west and southwest so we won't be able to see over any of that.
