I know what you're thinking...I need to update my Microsoft XML Parser. Well, I downloaded msxml3 from http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...e03798-2454-4d4b-89a3-4a47579891d8/msxml3.msi and updated my Parser.

Yet somehow I seem to get the same error!

So...with renewed bravery I went out and downloaded msxml4 from http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...6da-b4b6-c5d7485f2b42&DisplayLang=en#filelist since it was a newer version.

Yet the same error occurs!!!

Any help provided would be very much appreciated: I'm completely bamboozled as to what I should do

This is cIV 1.61

I've tried reinstalling and I'm still having problems. This is really annoying because cIV was working perfectly well until very recently.

I'll bump this only once, but that's out of my love for cIV. Any help offered would be greatly appreciated...

Again, the same error. Thank you very much for your help, because it led me to have a look at some of my 'hidden' files. I think my problems may be caused by some small XML errors I've found.

In C:/Documents and Settings/%Username%/Application Data/Firaxis Games/Sid Meier's Civilization 4 I found an interesting file called 'ThemeParseLog' which I've attached. In it, are the outlines of 4 errors in the XML which I think may be causing my problems. I'm pretty much XML illiterate, so I've attached the files...any help offered would be greatly appreciated. As fellow civers, I'm sure you can imagine my pain.

I have the exact same error.

I too have tried reinstalling civ and installing the latest XML parser. But I have no idea where my xml cache is to delete it.

I have also noticed my windows update software no longer works. Are these two issues related? Do we need the service pack 2 to run this now?

I'm only bumping this because I finally figured out how to solve it (quite by accident). Indeed the problem is with the XML Parser, but it isn't a case of one not being present! The problem is that it needs to be reregistered. So:

Reregister the DLL files

1. On the taskbar, click Start, and then click Run.
2. Type "Regsvr32 %windir%\system32\msxml3.dll", and then click OK.
3. You should receive a message stating that this step was successful. If so, restart your computer & try Civ IV again; it should work!

I'm only bringing this up again in the hope that it helps someone else! I also hope that this piece of knowledge can be added to the wealth of knowledge possessed by the established members of this particular subforum.

Oh my god, this worked perfectly for me in a sec! Thanks very much, someones odyssey is the fellow civfanatic bliss. Thanks again:

2. Type "Regsvr32 %windir%\system32\msxml3.dll", and then click OK.
