Is there any news/rumours that a civ5 will come out soon, or sometime later?

You can also post your thoughts/suggestions on how Civ5 should look.

Sorry if there is a topic already about this, you can merge/delete this thread.

Eras: Cave Era (Dinosaurs and cavemen basically), Ancient Age (Like the original ancient era, except a bit more techs, and more units etc), Medieval Age (Same as ancient age (Not the techs though)), Industrial Age (More techs and units, maybe more features), and Modern Age (Way more futuristic than original, lots more techs and units included)

The Look: I think the interface Civ5 would use should change with every era. Cave Era - Dinosaur ancient drawings, basically very ancient art, stone like interface.
Ancient Age - Very simple, stone sculpture interface with some wear and tear.
Medieval Age - Metallic interface, but all battered.
Industrial Age - Biplanes and WW2 tanks with bunkers interface.
Modern Age - Futuristic interface, glass modeling and more modern features.

Structures: Many more structures should be added, so many that it will let all the civilizations have their own unique structures, and that there is almost always a new building to build to matter what. The list below is a very small list, I cannot think so many at once  .

Cave Era -
Cave (Palace)
Tree House (Granary/Marketplace)
Field (Barracks, open area for people to train)
Pond/River (Basic aqueduct, I suppose)
MORE?

Ancient Age -
Ancient Temple (Palace)
Spear Range (Barracks)
Mill (Granary)
Stand (Marketplace)
Temple (Temple)
Stable (Along with a ring) (Colosseum)
MORE?

Medieval Age -
Palace (Palace)
Barracks (Barracks)
Granary (Granary)
Market (Marketplace)
Teller (Bank)
Temple (Temple)
Colosseum (Colosseum)
Potter
Smith
Minefield
Palisades (Walls)
MORE?

Industrial Age -
Embassy (Palace)
Training Yard (Barracks)
Bakery (Granary)
Town Square (Marketplace)
Bank (Bank)
Bunker (Walls)
Coal Plant (Coal Plant)
MORE?

Modern Age-
HQ (Palace)
Training Facility (Barracks)
Bakery (Granary)
Store/Mall (Marketplace)
Forcefields (Walls)
Bank (Bank)
Factory (Factory)
Nuclear Plant (Nuclear Plant)
Solar Plant (Solar Plant)
Silo (Protection against nukes in that city?)
MORE?

Features:
Enhanced Diplomacy, much more easier to navigate and understand, but a lot more features.
More terrain!
Realistic Terrain
Tutorial for every aspect of game, instead of going through only one long one.
MORE?

Units:

I think Civ5 should feature more units than ever. So let's say about 30 different units for each era (Estimate), I can not make up a list currently, but you fellas can make one of you wish.

Is there anything I missed? If so, please add them.

Again, sorry if this was made already.

I have heard people say there won't be a civ 5 :(.

I really doubt that. The Civ series is commercially highly successful. Firaxis is currently working on the second expansion for CIV. So I'm pretty sure there will be a fifth iteration.

Judging from prior releases, there were usually four to five years between the different versions of Civ. If this trend holds, I'd expect Civ 5 in 2009 or 2010.

I think i can recall someone said that he saw on the civ site or something that they said there won't be a civ 5. But i'm not to sure myself. They might just finish their expansion packs and quit making civ. But i'm no sure if this is true.

That would be too bad :(. Maybe another company could make it?

Yeah, if they didn't make civ anymore they could give the plans to a different gaming company. But they would have to make it simular to how Firaxes make it :).

If there is good money to be made, there WILL be another Civ. The question will be whether they can come up with something truly innovative without ruining the gameplay aspects. I think they went the wrong direction in C4, emphasizing graphics at the expense of gameplay, and I don't play C4 anymore.

There's probably more civ 4 fans than civ 3 now. And that why they emphasized the graphics. But that's only part of the reason why more people like civ 4 than civ 3. But for me civ 4 is to graphical and complicated.

Do you think anyone would listen? :)

I'm note sure if more neccessarily is better.

Actually, there are still more Civ 3 fans than Civ 4, I think people liked the originality of Civ3 better than Civ4. I quit Civ4 because it was mostly graphics, not really a fun gameplay situation.

I agree, they didn't do a very good job with Civ4. The only part I really liked about Civ 4 was the barbarians, civilizations, and the scenarios B)

If Civ5 went out, I would buy it for sure... if it wasn't like Civ4.

I like them both. I learned to play on CIV III. I got it just after I got CIV II but the graphics and intuitive interface made it my game of choice.

Now that I've adjusted to the graphics and playability(patches et al) is no longer an issue, I've grown very fond of CIV IV.

To me, the depth of a CIV game is unmatched. Plus, I guess, I really like the idea of running an Empire. If they make a CIV V I'll have it and any expansions that go with it.

For a Civ 5 they must solve the problems they couldn´t manage properly with Civ 3 and where they captitulated with Civ 4: Land artillery and armies.

And back to better gameplay and easy modding. If they need that crappy 3d graphic engine for kids and game magazines ("to cream other games" like somebody said - without cream), they should add an "auxiliary" graphic engine for easy modding- the best would be the Civ 3 graphic engine as here a lot of high quality units exist - and against all prognoses these units become more and more nearly each day (and more than additional thousand new unit graphics that are finished are waiting with SOE). So (if FIRAXIS needs this for selling): A 3d engine for kids and points in PCmagazines and the Civ3 graphic engine for players and modders.

Well, I would've liked Civ4 much better if the game wasn't all show and more fun. But I still stand my ground at this thought, Civ3 still overpowers Civ4.

First paragraph:

I don't really get what you mean there? Do you mean that Civ3 and Civ4 could not manage with Artillery and Armies? If you mean that, I must say they should add a better army style to Civ5 if they ever do, the original unit with a flag is not very impressive. They should also support more units, lets say ten, but much much harder to achieve. They should also edit the AI behavior so that they actually use the artillery.

Second paragraph:

The modding engine for Civ3 in my opinion is much better than Civ4's, mainly because even a toddler could use it. It also makes it a lot easier to create maps etc. Sid, IMO, didn't make a very... fun modding engine for Civ4.

I saw this in someone's sig, but I've been told that the link actually goes to that page kevan.org page that "eats your brain".
