Lightbulb Ten year celebrations

It's 2001. That means it's 10 years since Sid published Civilization. Don't you think we should all celebrate in some way? Perhaps host some kind of anniversary event. Perhaps even invite Sid to get involved?

What do you all think?

Yeah, cool idea. You can organize it, call Sid, or whatever. You have my full support.

Yeah, that would be cool. Let's try and get something like that sorted!

What about a big huge CivNet MP game?

Yeah, I know, CivNet is much younger...

Wow is that really ten years ago???
And I actually thought that I got my first Civ game before that, but come to think of it, I got my Amiga 500 10 years ago so I couldn't possibly have gotten Civ before that.

Excellent! Well that's a positive first response. Let's assume that we're going to do something then.

TTG, could you PM me any contact details you have for Sid please.

Everyone, please post your ideas for this to this forum.

I have no contact information for Sid. You could look around at the firaxis website, that's all I can think of.

Great idea! LONG LIVE CIVILIZATION! You could try to send them emails, but I don't think they answer.

Question

OK. I've sent off some messages. I'll post again when I've heard back.

Meanwhile, let's assume the worst and that there's a brickwall of silence. In that case, how would you like to mark the anniversary?

Of course I'm serious! Here's what I've received back...

Your idea is great and the marketing folks at Hasbro (now Infogrames) are in
the process of putting together the PR plan for Civ III, which includes some
kind of Civ 10 year anniversary contest. I think working with fan sites is a
great way to go and will suggest that to the team.

Thanks so much for taking the time to write...we'll update everyone on the
plans as soon as they are set.

That's great!!! It's not a silly idea after all... A well publicized official Civ 10 year anniversary contest would do wonders for Civ3!

I think Civ cams out for the Amiga in 91 and it came out on the PC first AFAIK.
