Welcome to a World yet unknown, and a history yet unwritten. Welcome to ChipNES4. This will be a BT to the Industrial/Modern times. I’m not setting a distinct era/time/analog because I will stop it when I think a good time presents itself and because I don’t know how history is going to go.

I think the forums are ripe for another attempt at this great idea, and armed with a magnificent, amazing, breathtaking, and wicked sweet map by North King, I’m ready to make that happen. Blah Blah Blah [insert inane ramblings here]

********
A few definitions and we’re onto the rules:

Background Times: HA HA! I bet you thought BT stood for Boring Times. Well alas, you are wrong again! Not quite sure what the first time you were wrong was though…..well anyways, the Background times are most of the updates in the near future. They will work a lot like Boring Times updates in that you will be sending BT-esque outline type orders. But these times will build the background of our world, so do goodish with those orders. The updates will slowly wind down in time, from very long in the beginning, to shortish in the end. Almost like era specific chapters in a history book. There might be 10-12 maybe more updates before we began the IT, but it’s worth the wait…

PCs: PCs in most random maps don’t get killed that often. Well, don’t expect that here. This is history that’s being created. In history, great leaders rise, but so do mediocre ones. Countries turn into empires, and then are split into little tiny pieces, etc etc. In this one, while you start out as a country, sometime there might be revolutions, wars or even just political changes that you didn’t order. As a rule though, if your nation get split up, you get first dibs on what NPC from them to pick. By no means do you have to pick an NPC from them, but if you want to stay with your culture, you get first pick. If there is a political change in your nation you don’t like, you can leave them and pick up another nation if you want to or you can stay and tough it out. If your nation is conquered you can even stay on and try to get them to secede or revolt or even just continue to rule the lands(with the conquerors consent) in hope one day you will be free or just a love of you people. After the first few updates though, the creating of nations from nothing will stop pretty much. You can still organize barbarians, but I suggest you take one of the numerous NPCs, or try to create a nation from existing civilized areas.

Starting Spot:
The starting spot is the spot you pick to start in…duh. But don’t be angry if you don’t a) instantly become a massive empire or b) if you don’t instantly exist. I promise to work everyone in, have patience. Also, starting in the white=not a good idea

Atlas: The Atlas will be hosted in a post below this one. It will feature the map, the climate map, and named maps, so you know the names of cities and mountains, lakes, and rivers.

Timeline: The timeline will be in a lower post as well, and will outline the history of our world, so that it’s easily accessible for stories, background, and flavor.

If you don't know how to play a NES, and this is your first one, first of all Welcome, and second of all I redirect you here, to the NES Guide

DA RULES!!!!!!

Playing:

Playing this NES is kinda like playing other NESes, but in some ways different. WHOAH!

Orders: Orders should be at the most no longer than 2 PMs. This is a very flexible, open game, so take advantage of that. Your orders should be like regular BT orders except for in the following areas. I would like lists of objectives your country would like to accomplish in the long term that you might not necessarily plan for or take immediate action for. These include such things as getting a certain territory, converting the people in X, getting better economically than X, joining a war against X if the time comes, or even defending X. Those are obviously not all the options, but I would like at 3-5+ on that list. I would like 2 lists of Names. One of these lists would be a list of city and place names; this is for if a city you didn’t plan on is created, or if a place that becomes important needs to be named. The other list would be of names of people, so I can give names to heroes, kings, or all around important people that would need to be named. These lists should be of at least 10 names. NOTE: You don’t have to send this every time. Send it once, and if the list starts to run low, your culture/naming conventions change, or if I feel you should send I knew one, you should send it.

Stories: Stories are something I would really like. There will be bonuses, and stories help define your people, your culture, and your future. Whether you’re writing about a city, a leader, a famous battle, or anything, it will be taken note of. Stories=Good

Updates: Updates will as I previously mentioned, create the history. They will be in BT form and will be over extended periods of time. As said above, the time period will vary, but I’ll try to give you an idea of it before hand. DEADLINES are on Monday at 4:00pm EST unless I say otherwise. The updates, stats, atlas, and history will be posted by Thursday. The Update might come sooner, but everything will be done by Thursday.

Stats: Stats will be different here than in normal NESes, because this phase IS different than normal NESes. Whereas in most NESes stats are numerical and solid, in this NES, stats are descriptive in nature. All Areas are explained below

Nation Name: The Official Name of your nation

Capital/Cities: Your Capital, a slash, and then all the cities that are in your country. Cities surrounded by an [] are occupied by you, and cities surrounded with a * are yours but occupied. I will be using the 3 City System. The cities will be very important and contribute to your stats, but at this point they don’t produce specific things lie 1 EP. Cities can change denominator, or lose being special all together. Beware losing them!

Economic centers- Cities with a red outline (like capitals, except differing in coloration, and shape for that matter), these represent centers of economic activity. Whether it’s an agricultural center, a trade center, or an industrial center, or something in between, it’s shown.

Cultural centers- Cities surrounded by blue, these provide you with greater cultural influence. These cities are quite bad to lose.

Religions centers- Cities surrounded by green, these cities are the beating hearts of your religions. They provide great bonuses to cultural influence, confidence in the leader, and the spread of your religion, but are devastating to lose.

Religion: This is the religious breakdown of your nation. It will list all the religions present in your nation and other pertinent information, such as State Religion in bold.

Government: This is the government of your nation. It will include the Type and information on the dynasty/parties, the efficiency, your current leader, and any other information, such as confidence, that I deem worthy of entry.

Economy: How strong your economy, what your economy mainly is, and other things of that nature.

Military: This will be a description of the Strength, Size, Make-up and Merit of your military. By Military I mean Armed, Ground Forces.

Navy: This will be a description of the Strength, Size, Make-up and Merit of your Naval Forces.

Nation Status: This will be your Population, your country size, Technological Level (Era in most NESes) and infrastructure quality. There will NOT be roads on the Map.

Domestic: This is things such as Quality of Life, Living Standards, and Education

Culture: *sigh* I am forced to convert to the North King system. This is a description of your culture, what its influences are, etc etc

Getting Started

Nation Template: When creating a new nation, advisable only in the first few turns, fill out the following. You may notice that all the stat areas aren’t there. That’s because I will fill them in later. Another thing you will notice is the Sliders. You will have choose between a series of attributes you want your nation to take on when I’m simulating them and before a pattern for their actions (well, yours) is created. For each attribute, you must indicate how much it relates to your nation using a “slider.” The numbers 1-4 will act as a slider. For example, under the attribute Militaristic – Peaceful, you will indicate a number 1 for being militaristic, or 4 for being peaceful, or, of course, any number in between.

The Slider thing is shamelessly ripped off of Jason, so credit for that to him.

The reason Jason chose 4 instead of 5 for the slider is Jason didn’t want a bunch of “mediocre” nations with no character, and neither do I. You’re either more militaristic or peaceful; you can’t be exactly in the middle.

With that said, please also post a brief description of where on the map you want to start (a picture may also help me more accurately place you, and I would VERY much like one), the name of your capital, your Religion, your Government and a brief description of your people, nation, and other factors. These sliders will help me start your nation, but will NOT be in the stats on the front page. I will save them, but they will not be there. The Template is below

A Note on Religion: Your initial religion doesn’t have to be entirely unique. It can be a cultural pantheon or even basic Animism or non-descript Polytheism.

Credit: Major credit goes to North King for his AMAZING MAP and for me modeling some of my rules off him, to Jason the King for his slider system, and to Plexius, Cleric, and myself for thinking up this system. Oh, and who ever made the 3 City System. If anyone else thinks they deserve credit, give it to yourself.

What are you talking about, there are certain differences,

I am more seafaring, more Belligerent, and less Secular. Unless you meant the scroll thing, then yes I did copy you. Sorry.

Description: The Visar people can trace their civilization back as far as recorded history goes, where according to legend the great King Jughash descended from the heavens and brought with him the divine spark which separated the Visar people from the other tribes around them. With this divine intervention (and a conviniently prosperous homeland) Jughash united the tribes and eventually his ancestors expanded all throughout the Jugash River Delta, establishing contact with those in the islands far to the south and up toward the hilly lands to the north. Now, his ancestor (5 generations down the line), Ulyan I, rules his empire from the capital of Yosefia, named after the Zues-esq head god, Yosefi.

Politics of Vissaria center around the Emperor, who in conference with the gods makes all important decisions pertaining to the overall well-being of the Empire. The council of nobles handles day to day matters, and confers with the King when disputes arise. Ultimately, the King's say is final, and only he has the power to declare and plan wars. His interference in the intricacies of Vissarian life has varied from Monarch to monarch. Currently he belongs to the so far only dynasty, the Jugashovik dynasty.

EDIT: Carmen, damn it! Vissarionovich is Stalin's middle name, and yet yours is oddly similar!

Description: A hardworking group of people are now banded together by the leader, Varis. A just leader, he believes people should choose the government, not by birthright. A government serves it's people, and takes care of it. At least until a bad government takes over. :p The peoples believe in atheism because they only think in Science. They show no prejudice, but only slight distaste of religious 'folks'. Start me off here. It's the island colored in yellow.

Description: They were a group of people alone on an island. And yet, one would perhaps think that this closeness would give them some sort of bond, a "we're all in the same boat" ideology. Well, no. They squabbled amongst one another, ferocious as tigers and senseless. This continued for quite a while, and the land bled as the competition for resources only increased. It looked as if they would always war among each other, and perhaps God looked down in pity, for his people would never escape from the cage they had placed for themselves, their unwillingness to cooperate and develop to get off their little island and discover the rest of the world. That all changed, however, when three wandering people cobbled tribes together. The people are united by religion, which is their only bond to each other. And yet, it could be strong, for they each wish to spread the truth to the remaining tribes shrouded in darkness.
