New American Leaders

NOTE: This modpack is obsolete and is no longer available for download. I recommend you look at the new 3D leaderheads released by artists such as bernie14 or dutchking if you are interested in downloading new American leaders for Civ 4.

The aim of this mod is to implement some of most influential and most requested historical figures of the American presidency as playable leaders in Civ 4 Warlords. Right now, it contains seven presidents that I have seen requested most often on CFC. They are:

Thomas Jefferson . . . . Expansive / Philosophical . . . . . . . Free Religion

Ronald Reagan . . . . . . Financial / Organized . . . . . . . . . . Free Market
George W. Bush . . . . . Aggressive / Protective . . . . . . . . Free Market
Woodrow Wilson . . . . . Financial / Philosophical . . . . . . Universal Suffrage

These will be especially useful for scenario makers.

I have tried to use new combos of traits, i.e., those not already utilized in warlords. Each leader has his own set of diplomatic quotes and artwork, and Lincoln has specialized diplo-music as well.

American Leaders Modpack - All Leaders (WARLORDS VERSION)

I have since removed the individual files and combined them all into one "modpack," which is linked above. I'm also trying to update these to have 3D animated LH's for the upcoming BtS version.

Very nice. Perhaps TR should get the "Aggressive" trait, not Expansive, in light of his foreign policy? Maybe Aggressive/Organized (since Tokugawa no longer has that combination...)

is this installed as a mod, or in XML?

dazman92: This is an XML-only mod, so all you need to do is unzip it to the warlords\mods folder. I did it this way primarily so it will be very easy to combine with other files for use in scenarios and mods.

jkp1187: I was toying with TR's traits when I originally made it, as he is really so many things: imperialistic (transformed America's power), aggressive (think San Juan Hill), financial (trust-buster)... When I created the list, I tried to use combos that aren't already in warlords, but I'm thinking about changing many of them, both for TR and the others. I'd also like to see better favorite civics, but I can't really think of anything that especially fits TR.

I am currently working on several other presidents, which I plan to release soon--Woodrow Wilson, Thomas Jefferson, and Andrew Jackson--plus several others that I've seen requested a lot but are kind of up in the air right now: Harry Truman, Ronald Reagan, John F. Kennedy, and James Monroe. I've also thought about doing major generals and military figures for use in scenarios, like Patton (Aggressive/Charismatic? Maybe he should get a free blitz promotion for all units )

In the meantime, here's a teaser for some of the works-in-progress:

I've requested LH's for Lincoln and TR to start, but alas no one seems interested in it. I know several people who are working off-and-on, but not much has come of it yet. I've never made 3D LH's before, so I don't know if I'd be very good, but perhaps someday I may try my hand at it. I would absolutely love to see a 3D Lincoln LH.

Heh...if anything, busting the trusts and his Progressive politics should give TR a financial penalty, but I digress. I think I'd call him more 'aggressive' than 'imperialistic'--the only territorial gain by the US under his administration was the Canal Zone (the Spanish-American war took place under McKinley's first term,) while he was famous for using gunboat diplomacy from the Carribbean, Guyana, and Morocco, not to mention the 'Great White Fleet' voyage to Japan.

I see what you mean. The way I figured it, by busting trusts and monopolies, he created greater competition in the market, which ultimately helped increase revenue for the government and improved the overall economy. But I could be wrong. At any rate, these are simply suggested traits, and can be changed very easily (just change two lines in XML) depending on how you want to use the leader.

BTW, if I had one choice for an animated LH, I'd pick Lincoln. I'm surprised no one has really done anything with him yet, though I understand he's very hard to model properly.

A new expansion pack to Civ 4 has been announced, and apparently Lincoln is fully implemented as a third American leader. They've even posted a screenshot of him:



I'm going to update my Lincoln mod to have the option of using this one instead.

Has anyone wanted to add some of the worst American leaders to this as a joke? It would be interesting to, lets say play as Richard Nixon or Millard Fillmore. If Richard Nixon simply got a different picture of him for every response, it would be priceless.

If Nixon wasn't paranoid, he would of been one of the greatest presidents of all time. Anyone who can see pass Water Gate can see that is true. Think about it this way. If we never had prohibition then Nixon would of been elected 10 years earlier. Why? The mafia wouldn't of existed, if it did it wouldn't of had as much power, and definatly wouldnt have place for Joe Kennedy. Without the mafia and several thousand votes of dead people JFK would of never got in. And with that Nixon would of won the first time. No Watergate, Cuban Missle Crisis and the bay of pigs would of been handeled correctly. And more than likely no vietnam.

Why? They already put Wilson in.

i got think Jefferson should be an expansive trait ...after all he did mastermind the Louisiana Purchase.

I have to say, I'll give the mod a whirl. I like thought of playing as Reagan. I also liked Polk when I played the Leaders Mod.

Reagan will likely be the next one released, although I haven't decided which music would be most appropriate for him...

Worst Presidents? How about worst world leaders in general. Anyone ever thought about negative traits, like anti-charisma, financial moron or military failure. How about paranoia or megalomania? Perhpas Herbert Hoover would limit the maximum number of coins in a square, or James Buchanan somehow making it more likely that civ cities would flip to other powers (ie the confederate states)Maybe the Romanofs (sp) of Russia could only use the serfdom civic.
