I'm pretty sure that's the same model/texture from BF1942. I would mention that somewhere. Also, I'm pretty sure that the models from that great game are to high poly for Civ4. Just an FYI. Also, the link still doesn't work. Somehow permission is denied.

That is a beautiful Chi-Ha. The texture looks quite a lot like the one in FH.

EDIT: Damn you snafus!

Anyway, I've actually done quite a few models by importing the bf1942 (+FH mod) file into 3dmax, then modeling a completely new low-poly unit by it's side, so I can easily reference certain shapes. Now I just need a tutorial on how to 1) combine the various boxes & cylinders into one big chunk, then 2) how to texture it in something else than 1 simple color.

Permission granted now, but I'd like to know the poly count on this beauty.

The model has 4522 polys, and it's definitely the one from Battlefield 1942 (and subsiquently Forgotten Hope). I don't know what the ramifications are, but I wouldn't recommend someone use a model with that many polys.

Looks fabulous. Any more chance of any other Japanese Tanks to go with it. I know there was a Japanese Heavy Tank that never got into production but I can't quite remember the name of it...

We need a Japanese tank but I think that it's too high poly.. there's a modifier in 3DS Max that you could use. Go to the MultiRes modifier, then go to Generate and then turn the vertex percentage way down.. it could work and you could still use the same texture - just make sure the texture isn't massive as well.

You should have mentioned that it's from BF1942 :shifty:

It looks nice though.

Not at the moment. It'll probably show up in the next release of both of them, whenever that is.

For 1939 - it won't be soon - still i have problem with patch 1.1b - and Japan would appear in 1.2b - the possible date for releasing it 15.04 - 30.04. BTW I'm finishing texture for Nakajima Kikki - Japan Jet Fighter (the model is almost ready - I need move vertices for Me262 - they are very similliar) and i plans Val and Kate - another Japanese Air Units.
So in both mods WW2 1939 and Modern Warfare Mods they are comming new units for Japan :) - Sorry for this offtop :)

About this units it's very very beautiful, but it doesn't fit Civ4 Standards - 4500 pollies means = 5 other units possible to be putted. I rather like to put 5 another models (with around 800 pollies) than one such beautiful but "heavy".
The best if unit has less or around 1000 poligons (it's enough to make this tank to look nice) - optimal is 600-800 but it's very hard to reach sometimes that number - especially in the begining - my first unit was around 4500 poligons.

BTW thx - Chugginattor - i was looking for similliar option since i start to learn 3d modelling :)

EDIT
About texture - it's also big :P and there's many of them
for performance the important is to have 3 or less textures (optimal 1 texture)
and the size 128x128 - 256x256 - i use for my models 256x256 cause 128x128 look nasty. 512x512 - is exception and i don't see the reaso nto make exception for that unit. That's the few advises.

The unit's is beautiful, and "heavy" doesn't discfallficate it - in smaller mods would work fine, but in mod with huge number of units 10-20 of different "heavy" units could make game real slow.

There was - it's on my list to do - real good tank so i'm eager to put this to mod - real masterpiece of japanese engineers :)

Firaxis mentioned that performance wise a Model should stay lower then 1000 polys ;)

you can check it easily in nifviewer - it says how much theres triangles

and in max - press on hammer in modifiers panel (this on right part of the screen) and under utilities press more, and form list of utulities choose Polygon Counter
