4000 BC
I start a worker, and the first tech is agriculture. I would prefer to hit the cattle first, but our worker would be idle for to long.

3940 BC
I pop our first hut and get low gold.

3670 BC
I pop another hut and get low gold again. We wind up next to a lion.

3640 BC
Gack - we need 8 turns to heal.

3400 BC
(IT) We meet our first civ - Carthage.

3340 BC
Ugg - Our warrior would up next to a bear.
(IT) Our exploring warrior is toast.
The Americans pay us a visit.

We need to explore, so replacement warrior is ordered up.

3160 BC
(IT) The next research project is bronze working. Slavery sounds good with this game.

2830 BC
We will need some worker techs after bronze working. Our worker falls asleep from boredom.

2590 BC
Once again our warrior is down for 8 turns to heal from an animal attack.
(IT) Bronze working is complete.
I revolt to slavery.
The next research project is the wheel heading toward pottery.

Pre-turn
Switch research towards Fishing.

2290 BC (7)
America is very close. Looks like an opportunity for an axe rush.

2260 BC (8)
Fishing is known, start to research the Wheel.

2080 BC (14)
The Wheel is known, start to research Pottery.

1960 BC (18)
I'll stop here.
We can declare war on Roosevelt and steal a worker. We got already 2 workers.
Workboat + barracks are finished, copper is hooked up.
That American city (New York?) is ugly placed, not coastal.

In the bin for the morrow.

I don't see a powerful reason to go to war with the American. The most pressing need I see right now is the acquisition of the site marked as Commerce City.

I was greeted with this unpleasant sight shortly after opening

Civ4ScreenShot0000.jpg

The axe moved down the towards the Commerce CIty hill as soon as he finished. I followed him up with a whipped settler as soon as I could get a 2pop whip then built a granary and started another axe. He should probably head east to see what is hiding oover on the horse plains. Chariots would be nice to have for barbarian axe hunting.

It did get a little crowded down there as the settler arrived at the spot marked Commerce City what with a worker, a warrior and the protecting axe and a bogie on the grass

Civ4ScreenShot0001.jpg

But the archer ignored the axe/warrior/settler trio and moved onto the hill hunting the worker. The worker ran away and the barbarian attacked the newly founded Commerce City. He dead.

Pottery came in and there is one cottage on the floodplain at the capitol and the scientists went to work on writing, now due in one turn.

Commerce City is building a granary which can be swapped to a library before the worker finishes his chop job on the hill.

The capitol has gone unhappy but the unhappy citizen really has nothing else to do but whinge until the second cottage is ready for him to move into.

Over to you Swiss Pauli!

Got it for tonight/tomorrow.

We seem to be lacking in happy, but I can see some wines over on the east coast. How about settling in that direction whilst researching to Monarchy?

I still don't understand the commerce city spot. Founding a city one tile
NW would be more logical, IMHO. Direct access to the cows + less tiles
are wasted.

Argg - I agree with you. I wish you had said something earlier. Either that, or I can figure out what weed I have smoked. :smoke: :smoke:

Could 10 hour work days, and less then 6 hours of sleep be frying my brain?:crazyeye:

Hi Guys. I chanced upon a barb city after a couple of turns and I'm wondering whether to keep it. Also found some marble in the region, so we could hook it up and have a try at the Oracle (plan B), or plan A: keep the barb city and hook the marble up later (it's 1330 BC already and we need masonry as well as medi and priesthood for Oracle).

Plan A. Keep it, but lose a wines from the fat cross I had originally planned (see plan B). Settle the desert tile next and work the oasis/rice depending on anger at Seoul.

Plan B. Raze it and try for Oracle, with wines as next city.

Plan C. Raze it, resettle 1SE next, ignore Oracle, and settle desert tile later.

(PS: this would have been a bit clearer had Imageshack been working correctly.)

Will wait for some feedback before continuing (tomorrow am CET).

I vote keep barb ciy, built marble city, and forget the desert city.
The desert city will be food poor without stealing from the other cities. It gains no seafood. There is already enough overlap between barb city and marble city before city4.

The problem I have with the eastern lands : irrigation,
one of the reasons I was advocating the axe rush against America.

Marble city should go one tile north to have access to all 3 resources right away. I would raze barb town and settle on the suggested city4 spot.
This will save some grasslands for both cities.
Carthage will probably settle in the sugar area before we do, so there'll
be not much left to settle for.

Not so much happening: renamed commerce city to Production City, seeing as we'll want to irrigate the rice and that it has lots of hills. On discovering writing, we got OBs with Hannibal and Roosevelt and I set a course to Monarchy (seeing as no-one objected).

Taking in various parts of the team's advice, I decided to scout a bit more south of the barb town and found some cows, so our settler was sent to to there (forward city):

It's axe has had a little scout around, but should head back in to garrison (pending arrival of our scouting warrior who spent most of my set recovering from an altercation with a barb).

This changes the city plans slightly: we can now keep Zhou. In destroying the archer, the axe reaches 5XP, which will come in very handy for the imminent attack.

Seoul is working off its whip anger on cottages and mines, whilst training axes...
